Re: Boston University season thread - strike 3! last man there turn out the lights.

Was just under 3000.

Seemed pretty empty.

Whoever stayed at home missed a good game.

The number in attendance wasn't a surprise. What has been a surprise has been the ongoing depletion of the student sections. Well, maybe that shouldn't be a surprise.

Actually, the atmosphere was reminiscent of the old ECAC and early HE midweek games that rarely drew large crowds.

Announced crowd was a joke. There were 1000 people there if they were lucky.

The announced crowd was lower than the number of season tickets, so they at least thought about giving the actual number

I'd wait until after this coming weekend before I make an assessment on the students, I can't remember the last game that was rescheduled and put on a weekday so there is nothing to really compare it to. Hopefully 3-7-2, brings a larger crowd than 2-7-2 did.

I heard some people apparently came in, scanned their tickets, got a free t-shirt and left. I didn't see it, but one of my friends I sit with did.

I also wouldn't expect a spike in student attendance this weekend, Friday is the Back Bay Ball, so that's a giant chunk of students who'll go to that instead. Couple that with the previous home losing streak, the Beanpot losses, I don't expect to see any more students beyond the core group that consistently go no matter what.

The t-shirts would not have been worth the walk/drive/t-ride/time to the arena! Funny if people did that...

As I mentioned previously if anyone did, they missed a good game.

And the Back Bay Ball is?

Seeing a 5-0 score at one point was kind of shocking. Merrimack gooning it up was not shocking, however. Typical.
HE penalties and minutes prior to last nights games:

BC 123-268
MC 120-270

So while they have "gooned it up" in previous season (impossible to deny) they have generally toned it down significantly THIS year. That's why last night's game was especially disappointing (that and the fact they didn't play any defense).

Yeah but that comparison isn't fair because Merrimack earned all of their penalties (probably even got away with a few), while BC never commits a penalty, the refs are just out to get them. :p

Don't forget too... that BC should have more than that... its just that they are much better at embelishment than the rest of us. ;)

Essentially a BU prom. It tends to draw many of the same type of students who would choose to go to a sporting event on campus. I don't know exactly how many students go, but I believe the number is in the thousands, as it's held at a giant ballroom at some ritzy hotel downtown. Walk around campus on Friday night at 6:00 and you'll likely see lots of people in formal attire.

When I was on campus and involved with the The Dog Pound, we used to gripe with Programming Council all the time because they'd find a way to schedule it the same night as a BC home game every year, which aggravated us since it forces students to have to choose between two of the biggest and most attended campus events of the school year.

Doesn't BC have something similar? Middle March or something like that?

College proms are big deals?

Doesn't sound like what you're describing (had to stretch my memory on Middlemarch, well done). Middlemarch is on campus and not that formal.

They have homecoming which is suit/sports jacket but is now on campus after it turned into a $h!t show off campus.

Sounds more like you're describing senior only events. 100 days (100 days till graduation), not prom formal though or commencement ball which is pretty formal with the trolley/limo type transportation.

always thought these were on campus... in stairwells?

Apparently. I never went to one, so I don't really know. But I think it's more just that they like getting dressed up and going to some downtown hotel. It's basically the same event as that one the Tufts kids had at the Westin where they all got wasted and puked and peed in the lobby that landed them on the front page of the Globe.
