Re: Boston University season thread 4: Where BC comes to talk hockey

The last two times BU beat BC in the semis, the championship was a 1-0 game. Loss to UNH (’03) and win against Lowell (’09).

Re: Boston University season thread 4: Where BC comes to talk hockey

Mookie, I go to/watch all the games...not just when bc plays bu ;)

Re: Boston University season thread 4: Where BC comes to talk hockey

Fantastic effort. It would be hard to be much more equal to the task than that.... alas it was just not quite enough.

BU Hockey: Is it going to feel the same?

Re: Boston University season thread 4: Where BC comes to talk hockey

Good effort by BU tonight, nothing to be ashamed of and best of luck to JackPa!

Re: Boston University season thread 4: Where BC comes to talk hockey

Not much to say...they fought hard but it just wasn't their night. Now we look forward to a new era...

Re: Boston University season thread 4: Where BC comes to talk hockey

Great effort by our guys. If you followed this team all year like most here do there were a lot of bad nights. Hence, the season ends tonight. Lots of positives to take from the end of this season.

Re: Boston University season thread 4: Where BC comes to talk hockey

Futile effort in arguably the biggest game of their college careers, when you cant put a puck in the net in a game that can end your season and lose FOUR times to Lowell in one season you deserve to lose and feel bad about it. Now we know why Megan is one of the few BU players to go four years without a trophy of any kind. The "captain" was invisible all night except when he sent Lowell up on the game deciding breakout. The future "pro" Nieto gagged on every scoring attempt he had tonite and did O'Reagan and Gill dress? Only Rodriques, Maguire and Gerzlyck stepped up tonite. Well the day I have been waiting for since the late 1990's is finally here and I am excited to see the changes that will come about without Parkers influence around. I expect recruiting better "college" players, on-ice discipline, effort and desire every night, pride, players wanting to stay for 4 years, class, a home advantage, respect for and from the opposition, and a quiet motivational Coach. Whomever that is welcome and where the heck have you been its been a brutal 15 years and I want my program back!

Re: Boston University season thread 4: Where BC comes to talk hockey

And yes, it's too early for this. But now we're going to see if this program can be sustained or if we're going to have to go through serious rebuilding as other programs have done. Forty years is a long time and there were only a handful of top-flight programs the last time a coaching change was made. Let's hope the administration is as deliberate as it needs to be in this situation and that the best choice is made

Re: Boston University season thread 4: Where BC comes to talk hockey

I too am looking forward to the new era however Jofa I think you are being a bit harsh. We lost 1-0 to a very good team that has earned it's success. This isn't time to rag on players that played hard but fell short of a great tournament run.

Best to Jack in his retirement and onward forward.....let's get our new coach installed!

Dislike Jack if you want... you are entitled to your opinion..... but what an assinine post and not fair to say about Megan and some of the other guys. Perhaps you didn't notice but this is not the Lowell team from when you were a fan of BU hockey. Check the records... Lowell is arguably the best team in the country right now and we put out a very good effort that was unfortuantley just not quite enough.

Were you even cheering for them?

Wow! I almost get the feeling that you were just waiting for us to lose so you could unload. First of all, you didn't think that Megan was tripped on that play? And have you watched all year? This is why everyone said BU had to score first because Lowell is one of the best teams in the country with the lead. I thought it was a great effort tonight and an even better one just to get here after they were almost run out of the building in the first half of last night's game. You almost sound like you're gloating. I may be critical but I am going to support my team to the end. I also think you need to understand that other teams have talent, too. This isn't the 1970s where you can be in the top three every year. There were plenty of teams that would have loved to be within 5 minutes of a Hockey East Championship (let's see...how about Maine, New Hampshire, Providence for starters?) And couldn't you wait more than ten minutes after the game? They'll be plenty of time to dissect and discuss this. I DO understand the frustration, but it's not the same game anymore. The game changed in the late 90s (bigger players, less time and space, ridiculous goalie equipment). I think the "BC model" (reminds me of the Montreal Canadiens of the 60s and 70s), always headmanning the puck, playing an exciting, up-tempo, offensive game has been difficult to watch from our perspective. This isn't football and I don't think you can consistently win with a "goal prevention" mentality. Perhaps Jack was a little slow (or obstinate) to change the philosophy. But the "puck possession" mentality doesn't work. There's no time and space and when we hold the puck in our own end to keep possession, more often than not we end up losing it, allowing the other team to setup their forecheck, turn it over, or back up on our heels. And, if you're going to have a "defensive" philosophy, something is wrong when you give up 40 shots every game. So, yes, Jack should have adapted, and when he said at the press conference that the game "hasn't changed" in 40 years, I think he was wrong. But the point is, for better or worse, he commited to that style of play and when the team bought in they executed it fairly well. Also, did you ever think that maybe that style caused some of the players that left to do so, as they perhaps felt that they weren't going to have a chance to show off their skills in his style of offense? That having been said, Lowell basically shut us down, so perhaps with the right type of talent you CAN win with that style. And I guarantee you everyone would be complaining because it's too "boring." So I'm not saying you're wrong...but let's look forward and not trash the past. The past is done and we can't change it, so let's not take shots at these guys when they just came off one of the toughest losses of their careers (and it was obvious after the game that they felt as badly as anyone that this loss ended their coach's career).

I thought everyone played hard but give UML credit for shutting down BU's offense. Best of luck to Jack and retirement.

You are a joke to think that was some sort of admirable effort tonite to be shutout in a do or die game to the "best team in the country" lol. The lack of urgency was frightening. That shows how far this program has sunk that a "nice try" against the Engineers is laudable. Wade Megan had about as uneventful/unsuccessful of a 4 year career as a BU Captain has ever had. His falling down and then the heads up play to throw the puck back to his own blue line was a choke that turned out costing BU a trip to the NCAA's and a going away championship to the beloved Coach.

Good points for the most part but sorry this was BU's game to win after last nights emotional win (that should have been the tough one) and they coughed up a furball and Nieto looked like the career AHLer that he will be. If they felt awful that they came up small in a big game for their coach, they deserve to feel that way.

You're usually right and it drives the fanboys crazy and for that I like your posts usually, but this one is off the mark.

Sorry, I don't agree. You're living in the past. Did you even look at the stats this season?

Overall record: Lowell 26 - 10 - 2
BU 21 - 16 - 2

Goals against: Lowell 79
BU 110

BU gave up more goals than any other team in Hockey East except Northeastern. I understand your expectations for the "program," but it's as if you're blaming THIS team for the "failure" of the program for the last 15 years. Given their up and down, inconsistent season, they still won five in a row when they had to, beat a team (BC) that obviously had more talent offensively and was within one crappy goal (Maguire made the save and it went in off the diving defenseman - that's hockey - did you see BU's game-winning "goal" against UNH in the 2009 Northeast Regional?) of going to the NCAAs. You can't put it all on a few players. It's ludicrous to even be having this discussion. OK - the day "you've been waiting for" is here. Let's just look to the future and not trash the past. LET IT GO!!! Jeez...
