Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

Is there a link to the story about Warsofsky signing with the Bruins? It's not on the Bruins website, or their twitter account.

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

Just wondering ... Do you think the Wings have a similar idea about Nicastro?

No he went backwards, so he needs at least another year of solid play and progression. I think 9, poss 31, poss 10, maybe 3 now that he won HE ROY. Not 4 yet, maybe another year but he hasn't even been drafted yet.

this is the unknown. someone may take him high (why???) and push in a certain direction. last year at this time both he and nieto were considered 1st rd material. while not so obvious now it's hard to guess.

I agree... depends on where he gets drafted and by whom. If anyone (team/scouts) really watched, they would want him to stay and learn better defense and skating skills, with an emphasis on smarter play as well. Why pay pro dollars for that when he can stay in school on BU's $ and get better (sic) off a payroll?

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

If 31 stays it wouldn't surprise me if someone else leaves in search of all too elusive PT...

do people really think he'd leave?? To me, despite the maddening spells of either lack of confidence or lack of focus, I thought he had a really great stretch. Would have to think that maybe he can work through those spells with another year here.

At this point he may be the most likely current player to go.

He is kind of in Strait's position where no way is he NHL ready now but he has settled into how he plays in BU systems and he doesn't have much room for growth. All 3 years the D scheme has been make the first save, the rebound is the D's responsibility. His biggest problem is rebound control, and that wouldn't be a focus of the coaching staff for him to improve. He really is better than 98% of NCAA goalies at stopping the first one (as long as it's not shot between his left leg and catch).

Or if it's a knuckler at 2 miles an hour...

Maybe I was still high off the drugs of 09, but I thought Strait was much more fundamentally sound at his position that 31 is...that said...if 31's gone...and 5 already is...we're going to need A LOT of goals next year.

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

Thanks very much to you folks sharing the stories from the 70s. It's amazing to think I have (semi-)direct access to people who were at those games.

I wonder what an internet chat room would have been like after some of those tussles (esp the '76 Minnesota slugfest) . . .

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

And he's outta here;)

Seriously though, congrats to Warsofksy, the last remaining member of the greatest D corp in NCAA History (prove me wrong). Thanks for the memories and everything you brought to the BU program, now go enjoy another of your lifelong dreams.

And so continues BU's inexperience, only two skaters left on the roster have been regularly dressing for more than 2 seasons.

86/87 BC D corp was better. Brian Leetch, Greg Brown, John McLean, D Buckley and the rest

So was the 99-00 BC D corp of Mottau, Bobby Allen, Orpik, Scuderi, Hughes, and whoever else they put out there with them. Outrageous comment.

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

exactly

BU's d on that team as a unit was very good, at least top 5-10 all time.

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

Why are people surprised that the Bruins would want Warsofsky to jump? The Bruins suck and need all the help they can get on defense. Warsofsky probably becomes the #3 defenseman on the team immediately after Chara and Kaberle. The rest of them are stiffs. Not to mention they get him on the cheap I'm sure thus putting more money in owner Monty Burns' pocket.

Nicastro played like Fidel his freshman year but regressed to playing like Raul this year. I find it hard to believe anybody would think he's even remotely ready for a higher level of play.

I'm not sold on Millan although the D didn't do him too many favors this year. I can't get beyond benchmarking him to Curry who was a better goalie IMHO. However I think the problem some of these guys might be having is how will the team look next year. If its another season like this one, I might be inclined to take a hike too.

I can't speak to the 87 BC team because that was before my time, but I'd put BU in 09 over BC in 00. Gilroy was slightly better than Mottau and while I'd take Orpik next Bobby Allen wasn't that good of a player and Scuderi was okay but I'd rather have Gryba and Shatty out there. Now if you want to penalize BU extra for Colby Cohen's defense maybe I can go along with that....;)

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

No way is Warsofsky the #3 d-man on the Bruins right now or at the beginning of next season. If the Bruins suck, there are a whole bunch of teams in the NHL that are worse.

Anyway, he may have had a down year this year, but for one person to say "good riddance" and others to think it's not a big deal...I think you're mistaken. Players have down years. It happens. Doesn't mean they can't rebound the following year. And you thought your PP sucked this year...

I certainly won't miss him putting the puck in the net or skating all over the ice.
