Boston University @ North Dakota - November 2nd/3rd

Re: Boston University @ North Dakota - November 2nd/3rd

Some BU fans, and the entire UNH roster won't disagree with your first sentence.

Yeah, I know it was only 1 game...er, part of 1 game. Probably less nervous playing in front of a bazillion people in ND

:p:D:D I was obviously just joking. Good luck to your Terriers tonight, and let's hope that it's a great series with no injuries.

Re: Boston University @ North Dakota - November 2nd/3rd

Since rape is illegal in North Dakota and he isn't even dressed, it appears Ben Rosen might be correct. There is nothing for him to do here.

Yeah, well, I'm thinking I'd like to see the Sioux win two lopsided arsekickers and have the Terriers limp off the ice with their tails between their legs tomorrow night.

Am I a bad person?

It's illegal in Massachusetts too but that doesn't stop the BU hockey players!

I'm sure Rosen will get an early jump on his future career and dig a ditch somewhere in ND to make himself useful.

Re: Boston University @ North Dakota - November 2nd/3rd

The game's not even over yet but already last year's problems are carrying over. Penalties...penalties...penalties. What's really a shame is that it looks (on TV at least) as though it's a great atmosphere and the two teams are really flying up and down the ice. But there's nothing that kills momentum more than inopportune penalties (and mostly stupid ones, at that). The same overagressive, chippy stuff. Hits from behind, hits after the whistle, baiting. If they can't discipline themselves it's going to be another year just like last year.

On a positive note, it seems as though Maguire is playing much better. The best thing a goalie can do is have a short memory, so let's hope he has put that first game behind him for good! North Dakota has outshot BU, but when you're shorthanded all night that's going to happen.

Re: Boston University @ North Dakota - November 2nd/3rd

It takes talent to completely outgoon UND. Congrats, BU.

I don't know... some were the stupid variety, some were from UND being all over them and BU pressing trying to break up the play....

IMO it was overall a solid effort, but UND looked as if they were a bit better, just as the rankings told us... not by a ton, but by enough to get us back on our heels and scrambling around a good chunk of the time as the game wore on.... by the end of the 3rd we looked gassed.

Nice to see Maguire looking solid.

Gotta come back tomorrow and try to get one!

Re: Boston University @ North Dakota - November 2nd/3rd

Talk about a fun game to watch. Had that rivalry/playoff feel to it. You'd think these two teams played each other on a regular basis.

Reffing was pretty crappy overall. Talk about no consistency at all. Par for the course though so not surprising.

I think tomorrow is going to possibly be even more of a heated battle.

Re: Boston University @ North Dakota - November 2nd/3rd

Congrats to the Sioux on a hard fought, deserved, win.

I thought BU looked good for 2 periods, but looked totally gassed in the third. I haven't seen the shots yet, but it seemed like it was about 18-5 in the third. Despite his goal, Oksanen had a tough night with lots of weak giveaways. Kurker looked decent on the 4th line. And yes, Maguire should be back in the rotation after this game. The first goal was a fluke deflection. Second one he probably should have, but a well placed slapper from pretty close. The third goal was a 5-on-3 job, great play by Grimaldi.

I thought the call on Escobedo that made it a 5 on 3 was weak, and wouldn't have been called if it wasn't for the quick whistle no-goal a few minutes earlier. But the no-goal should have been a goal, so I guess it all evens out in the end.

Will UND no longer be wearing the Sioux logo? I haven't kept up with the latest on this issue - I know you wore these new jerseys in the NCAA's last season. Are they here to stay now?

I agree. One of the better non conference games I have seen at the Ralph in awhile. Big hits, great scoring plays, and yes some terrible reffing but I think that evened out. Looking forward to the same thing tomorrow night if not a little more intense.

Yes, but when you're short-handed half the period of course you are going to be gassed.

On another note; just wondering if any UND people can respond to this. I noticed on TV that all of the championship banners had the Sioux logo. Why wouldn't the NCAA make them change those also? Seems somewhat hypocritical (on the NCAA's part). I'm just asking...it doesn't bother me, mind you. I think the logo is great. Funny also that everyone was still cheering "Let's go Sioux!" Maybe the speech police will put a gag order on any "Sioux" references in chants, too. :D

Re: Boston University @ North Dakota - November 2nd/3rd

Correct, UND will no longer wear the Sioux jersey. They've officially dropped the name.

What happened on the McWilliam penalty? Other than the Flopping Finn attempting to win an Oscar, I mean.

IIRC, the Whioux can keep the "historical references" which would mean the banners. And don't expect the fans to stop yelling "Sioux" for quite a while.

Yeah, maybe, but that's not the point. They just CAN'T seem to resist always getting that last "shot" in. It happens every game...after the whistle someone is always giving a two-hander. And when are they going to learn that when you can see the NUMBERS on the back of the player's jersey against the boards you CAN ... NOT ... HIT ... HIM!!!!????!?!?!?!?!?! You can train a rat to learn that behavior. It's ridiculous. Last year was one thing but they're still doing it. They have got to be more disciplined. The same thing happened against Minnesota in the NCAA's last year. They completely lost their composure. It's got to stop or they're not going anywhere.

I was being sarcastic...of course they're not going to stop yelling "Sioux." My point was the NCAA wants to be so politically correct, so why don't they go all the way and station speech monitors around the arena so they can toss out anyone who mouths the word S-I-O-U-X. I've already stated my opinion about this...when we take away the Redskins from Washington, the Seminoles from Florida State (just to name two) then we can discuss it. Why they went after UND I don't know (unless they figured it was hockey and they could get away with it because it wouldn't cause as much of an uproar).

Just stirring things up a little... :)

Sorry. My bad. Some people are serious about it.

Yeah, a Gopher fan sticking up for the Whioux name. Wonders never cease.

Do the North Dakota announcers have a different definition of "natural hat trick" than I do? The Oksanen goal came between Gaarder's second and third, but they kept on saying it was a natural hat trick.

Ahti's goal doesn't count because no one likes Finns.

Our dikes could use some touching up...they've taken a pounding the last few springs...

They're football guys...
