Pretty much set now that BU need to win hea tournament to make NCAA tourney at this point.
From a mathematical perspective, this is laughably wrong. If you want to argue that the product on the ice indicates a big change/turnaround would be necessary to get an at-large bid, then you've got a better argument. But we are absolutely not relegated to the autobid from a "simple math" perspective.
He never said they were mathematically eliminated. I took his comment as being from a reality based perspective. Sure, if BU wins all the rest of their games, we all know they will get an at-large. We know that won't happen though and I agree with Mookie that BU needs to win the autobid. Most years I would say the team had a bit more time to turn things around, but HEA's poor NC record will put any conference team with double digit losses in jeopardy.

Last year (and I think that was a pretty normal year) 7 teams with at least 11 losses got at-large bids, including 2 from a fairly weak Big 10. It's not Panic Day for you yet. Panic Day Eve, maybe, but not Panic Day.
Big Ten had a 0.583 non-conference record last season. Hockey East is 0.469 this year versus 0.573 last year. Only one auto-bid with more than 12 losses and that was a NCHC team.
Really impossible to predict the Pairwise this far out but I would say 4 more losses at most would put them in auto-bid territory and 3 would put them on the bubble.
What continues to worry me is the lack of offense.
And the poor starts.
Maybe one of the Stats Geeks can figure it out, but is seems as if BU is never ready at the start of the games. Is the First Period BU's worst period since Quinn became coach???
The saving grace is it also seems like the Third Period has been BU's best period.
It's not the poor starts as much as the poor 2nd periods. Season-to-date, here's the goals-for / goals-against comps in regulation:
Per 1: BU 12, Opponent 13 (-1)
Per 2: BU 11, Opponent 19 (-8)
Per 3: BU 17, Opponent 11 (+6)
BU has allowed 2+ goals in the 2nd period in 7 of its 15 games. Their record in those games? 1-6-0.
Entering the 3rd period, BU has only led 4 times, and has trailed 9 times (record in parenthesis):
Lead - 4 (3-0-1)
Tie - 2 (2-0-0)
Trailing - 9 (1-8-0) (@ Quinnipiac only come from behind W)
This BU team has done well protecting the few leads it's had. They just spend too much time playing from behind.
assuming the next four go like we think they will (disastrously bad for bu), i think quinn should start focusing on his resume
The schedule is now 47% complete not a “loooong” way from being over. Your underplaying of how far a long the season is for the second time in a week is either disingenuous, naive or ignorant. We are still in November, and people are posting about a NCAA bid that doesn't happen until mid-March?!?
Seriously?
That is loooong way off.
A lot of hockey still to be played.
Let's worry about the here and now. Anything else is totally unrealistic at this point.

If they can't get up for the Igles this week, who can they get up for?

I know Terrier nation has a heart![]()
He should have said "I" too instead of "we." I know things are doom and gloom right now, but Cornell is 9-1, no slouch team. BU also usually has had a good game on 2 game weekends. Personally I think they go 2-2.
