Somebody with better skills than me needs to post a link to the scene from the Holy Grail when King Arthur and the Knights of Camelot realize that the ferocious animal guarding the Castle of Arghhhh that the man who throws fire is warning them about is a cute little bunny. That seems to be the general gist of how people feel, at least in response to Jeff Cox. (of course, we can ignore the part when we realize the bunny is in fact ferocious and the man who throws fire was right all along). :D:D

Saw that in one of adam wodon's tweets, he said the story is still unfolding. And if i read one of mcmahon's tweets right, BU supplied the info for their story. No idea if there will be more to it but it wouldn't surprise me. BU could be trying to get ahead of anything else that might come up. Even then, the only thing i'd expect to come out is more names. Not expecting any earth shattering revelations.

That one's over my head. And to clarify, i meant potential names of now former terriers.

Anyway, if any of you are ncaa experts...if they pinned the gambling down to last season, would that make a player retroactively ineligible? I'm just curious. Meaning, could it be ruled that BU technically used an ineligible player?

I read Cox's article as basically insinuating that the NCAA title game was thrown (his reference to former Terriers being involved, and the Terriers and O'Connor in particular playing poorly during the game). That's pretty shady "journalism".

I have NOT posted an article on this subject and tweeted that it unequivocally was not regarding gambling on college puck before CHN story...

But you did tweet that the allegations were "very serious", that it was "not far off" from "sensational rumors" (which were point shaving and throwing the national championship game) and that it would be "very damaging for BU and college hockey as a whole."

Ignoring that you decided to tweet vague allegations against a player and a program without actually reporting what they were like an actual journalist, unless you have further information to report, nothing reported by CHN, in BU's statement, or anything of substance anywhere would fit the bill of your quoted tweets. Perhaps you could call it very serious, but that would be the least earth-shattering of all of the things you tweeted.

I would've replied to your post if you hadn't deleted it, Jeff.

Jeff, i don't have a twitter account and i'm not a BU fan but based on what you tweeted, i think you mischaracterized the details that eventually broke. That being said, i don't know what you were told or what your intentions were.

Always shake my head at guys who leave college mid semester because they can't score, honor your commitment till the off season.

This, and that instead of reporting the story, he decided to tweet vague references to what the story actually was while infusing sensationalized language that obviously implied this was a bombshell scandal. Again, unless there is further information that he has, nothing that has been reported is anywhere in the realm of being "very damaging for BU and college hockey as a whole."

There is a rampant practice among some people in the college hockey world to tease that they have news on something but they won't tell you, maybe to feel some kind of superiority or something. Some of these people are the Hokys of the community, others are in a journalistic position. Jeff's certainly not the only one guilty of this with respect to the Roberto story.

Finally catching up on all of this…. what a dumbass move by the player(s?) involved. At least when I competed, it was made pretty clear to the student athletes that gambling was a serious no-no and would be met with serious consequences. I'd assume the same info was given to them. We can debate the wisdom of the NCAA gambling rules, and bookies vs fantasy sports etc. But for now those are the rules and the athletes know it. You have to be either too dumb, think you are above the law, or just not care to do it.

That being said, while it is a serious rules violation, I don't see how it seriously hurts BU and / or college hockey in general (unless there are more angles to the story yet to come out).
