Re: Boston University 2012-13 Season Thread -- Up To The Task?

Thoughts on the first half? Mine:

- Pleasantly surprised with the record given we ar done with BC and UNH and North Dakota. Although I didn't expect UNH to be as good as they are. This team can certainly pile up some wins in the second half if they take care of business
- Individually, freshmen O'Connor, Maguire, Grizzy and O'Regan have been as good or better than expected. I expected more from Kurker, given the hype and rumored defection to the Remparts. I also didn't realize that St. John's Prep is not a prep school but a high school. Not too many kids come straight from high school any more, so I guess it makes sense. Myron I expected more points out of as well. But is seems Parker likes what he sees in him, which is a good sign for the future.
- Best win - the game 2 stunner in Grand Forks. Lane roofing that shot to take the lead in the last minute or two is the highlight of the young season.
- Non Freshmen thoughts: I didn't expect Megan to pick right up where he left off (I'm not sure why) on the goal-scoring front, but he certainly has. Privitera has looked great, and his shot-blocking is quickly becoming legendary. Nieto and Gill have not done as much as I expected, especially Nieto. I really thought he was ready to step up to the elite level. Perhaps he still will. I'm not sure why Riukka has been platooning with MacGregor, IMHO the latter is a step below Riukka.

Overall an encouraging start. Looking forward to the Denver game (thanks, NESN).

I've read some opinions that while Ruikka may be the better player, he hasn't really done much to put himself at another level from MacGregor. I don't fully agree with that statement, but it's at least partially correct. With the other five D spots unchangable, my guess is he's put MacGregor in there for games where he wants more physicality. The problem is, MacGregor's puck handling and decision making in his own end can frequently be poor. Other than that, I too am encouraged, it's a fun group to watch despite some early youthful missteps. One point you didn't touch on, Hohmann and ERod both have to be in the running for the league's most improved player. They've been huge difference makers for us so far.

Thanks for bringing it up. I absolutely should have pointed that out. Hohmann has clearly found a new gear. Rodrigues showed flashes last year, but also appears quicker this season. Looking forward to seeing their development continue.

A couple quick things:

- defkit: Love the Clarkson goalie story. I can't believe you remembered his name. (I was there!)
- Upset of the week: Not one, but TWO TonyTheTiger posts that weren't a troll or a BU bash.
- So NU was the first one to offer Askew a scholarship, why didn't he wait for BU? Seems odd. #WeAren'tGettingTheEntireStory
- Yep, I remember the Yipper having a good game in Denver on New Year's Eve 2009. (also on TV)
- defkit: Nice mid-season report. The freshman and Sophomores are exceeding expectations. Here's hoping they don't fade. We need more from Nieto and Gill in the 2nd half.
- They will have a few bad loses in the 2nd half. Young teams do that.
- I'd like the Pot back.

Merry Xmas/Happy Eating Chinese Food and going to a movie day/Happy Kwanza/Merry Festivas!

Because, Yes, 1998 through 2012 has been the apex of bu hockey! It's funny that we are now so old that recruits who "grew up" terrier fans have only known mediocrity.

Mediocrity? Steve, but they won 9 Beanpots in that timeframe!!!!!!

New material please.

Plus, you guys have won the last three. I don't see many BU fans pumping their chests about the Pot these days.

Did somebody retire updating @FakeJackParker?

Maybe I should have posted this on the BC thread? :D

Re: Boston University 2012-13 Season Thread -- Up To The Task?

Per CHN Twitter people, apparently Hetnik is no longer committed to BU for next year and has recommitted to UMass. Who knows, may be a playing time thing, or didn't like getting pushed back a year, or BU soured on him a bit? I don't really follow recruits much until shortly before a season starts, but I read that he's not having the greatest season this year, so who knows.

Edit: Per Federal League on Twitter, apparently Hetnik's dad is no longer employed by BU, and the plan was since his dad was a full time BU employee, he could attend school at a 90% discount so they wouldn't have to use a scholarship on him, which seems to no longer be possible.

I would hope not ;)

Although, at least the Beanpot scoreboard is one scoreboard that's still in your favor...

Remember everyone, Beanpots are meaningless, unless BC wins the tournament. Then....Beanpot!!!

no foo! no beanpot school has ever won a nc unless they first won a beanpot. so by mid february you know whether or not you have a chance to win a title.

You mean to say that good teams win in season tournaments? Well, golly, grandpa, why don't you share more of your wisdom with us.

Interesting how I often compare freshmen to their predecessors and they often wear the same number. O'Regan reminds me of Chris Higgins (good thing) while Myron reminds me of Ryan Weston (bad thing). I have nothing against Weston but he always seemed to me to be a player who looked much better on the eyes (speed, skill, size) than he did on the scoresheet. Unfortunately that's how I view Myron right now.
