Boston University 2012-13 Season Thread -- Up To The Task?

Re: Boston University 2012-13 Season Thread -- Up To The Task?

There's no plausible way that the season begins (if it does) any time before mid-December. Travel plans, hotels, etc. I think they've reached the 'not-even-worth-trying' stage.

Everything i have heard, the lack of leaks of information regarding the latest talks, etc. seems to indicate otherwise.

I feel like they could still have the series be home and home, they just wouldn't do two games in a row against the same team. Say BU goes to Maine and plays one game then plays at UNH the next day. Then later in the year Maine comes down and plays BU and then BC the next day. Less travel and no team gets the advantage (or disadvantage if you're BU the last few years) of having the entire season series on home ice. It would also keep the situation now where teams play each other at different points in the season and not just one weekend.

That sounds more like the travel partner system than a home/home series.... Usually if I think of a home and home series it is on consecutive nights.

The team will be driving home from Vermont after the game Friday night, not getting in till very late (or early Saturday morning, as the case may be). They can't play Saturday night.

It could be done if they wanted to.... Not like the game is in the morning....

From a fans perspective, Sunday games just stink.

Don't know if it was mentioned or not, but apparently Privitera will be suspended one game for an interaction with a fan.

From personal experience, I will have to admit that the people that sit down by the box at the Ralph, are the absolute worst type of people. Loud, unfunny, and hockey ignorant. They often print out facts from online and gingerly taunt players about how they, "porked your sister, ______." I don't blame him Privitera one bit.

You don't blame him one bit? I don't care how stupid and rude fans are as a player you cannot have contact with them, especially with a stick. Are you an Ron Artest fan?

This is more Sabo than Trivino for sure. :D

True. Although to be fair, I'm not aware of Sabo ever getting suspended for smashing that kid's face in with his foot. Parker seems to have adopted the Brendan Shanahan Wheel of Justice.

He hit someone with his stick from the penalty box?

The jokes write themselves.

I love it. Jack still hasn't figured out that he is best served worrying about his own problems than worrying about everyone else. All in a span of 24 hours we get this diving rant and a suspension of a player for assaulting an opposing fan.

I won't even go into the terrible idea of video review for something as subjective as diving. Can we video review guys that don't get called on other penalties like hooking and tripping and suspend them for one game too? Those are just as much to blame for the diving as the actual act of taking the dive. And if Jack is such a strong advocate for this type of system, will he be suspending Noonan for his dive in North Dakota? I'm betting the brainiac BU bloggers/reporters didn't think to ask this question to Jack (insert BC gambling joke here).

Love it. Jack's been hitting the special egg nog a little early this holiday season and he is the gift that keeps on giving.

Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa, Happy Hanukkah everyone.

I interpreted it as him suggesting video review by the conference after a game, not during. Video review of penalties during a game that aren't 100% black and white would be ridiculous.

They could just do it like baseball does with pitchers and intentionally hitting players. If the refs suspect a team or player of diving, they warn the team. Then if another player on that team dives. Throw him out. Review the suspected dives after the game and determine if a suspension is required. Nothing is going to be perfect and teams and players are always going to say they weren't diving. Wouldn't it be nice if players just had enough integrity not to dive.

I did too. But let's be honest, during a game/after a game, either way the idea is ridiculous.

It's an intereting concept. I think from a deterrent perspective, it would be very effective. But from an execution perspective, it does become very challenging. There are the obvious ones (see Noonan, vs North Dakota), but then there are the less obvious ones. There are those plays where a forward will pinch the checking players stick under his arm and even lift it up towards his head as he falls - how you determine if it was the checking players action or that of the puck carrier is a tough call.

Amd would it apply only to "Diving" or also to "Embellishment"? (the latter being a situation where the initial infraction is actually deemed to be committed, the victim is just rying to oversell it).

Does Parker give Maguire the start tonight? I'm assuming that O'Connor gets the BC game regardless.

Apparently O'Connor is getting the game tonight at Merrimack and BC is TBD. Honestly their decisions with the goalies make no sense to me. But I haven't been coaching college hockey for 40 years, so I'll assume he knows what he's doing.
