Boston University 2012-13 Season Thread -- Up To The Task?

Re: Boston University 2012-13 Season Thread -- Up To The Task?

Didn't Bertanga say scheduling operates on a 2 year rotating basis? I'd say maybe next year we can get back to the H/H Dec 1 for Jan but....

I think it changes to two game series' next year because of the addition of Notre Dame. I imagine this means 1 weekend home and home with each team. Maybe with all the extra non-conference games they'll add a BU-BC non-conference matchup in January. Does anyone know how the playoff system is going to work next year? And how are they breaking ties between teams with only 2 games? Aggregate goals?

i believe so.......i just wish they left HE as it was. To me the biggest loss is having one less BC-BU game on the schedule.

Without looking anything up I'm guessing that in the past 10 years theses 2 teams have played over 40 times. If over the next 10 years they only play over 30 times I won't be heartbroken. Plus if the coaches don't like it they can put the extra game on the schedule with all the new OOC games.

I'll miss the 2 game weekends at UVM and Maine more, much harder to justify 8 hours of driving for 2 hours of hockey than for 4 hours, especially when it happens every year (as opposed to justifying travelling to Grand Forks, Madison, or Ann Arbor when it could be a once in a decade plus opportunity).

Madison is great. Looking forward to going back.

2014 or 2015?

My understanding is the year after next, so probably fall 2014. While the new league structure is going to be odd, the fewer conference games allowing for more OOC and hopefully more straight up home and homes like the ones this past weekend are great for the program and great for the sport. Hopefully, it doesn't turn into an opportunity for more gimmicky early and midseason tournaments at way out of the way neutral sites in front of 2,000 people. Seeing eastern and western powers travel and play on each other's home rinks is the way it should be.

Is it possible that the 2 games with UVM and UMO will be 2 at my place one year, two at your place the next?

Re: Boston University 2012-13 Season Thread -- Up To The Task?

I think it is very possible that happens. Especially when you take into consideration that is how Notre Dame games will probably be treated.

One and ones would mean a ton of travel for Maine.

I'm confident it would be two games at Maine/Vermont one year, then two at BU the next, just like Notre Dame. There's no way they can play one place Friday night then travel and play again Saturday. If they wanted to make it a h/h, they'd have to go Friday/Sunday.

There are weekends when we only play one game... Not a big deal.

Re: Boston University 2012-13 Season Thread -- Up To The Task?

Too bad it wasn't moved to Sat. Regardless of the football schedule, Sunday games are a drag.

The team will be driving home from Vermont after the game Friday night, not getting in till very late (or early Saturday morning, as the case may be). They can't play Saturday night.

I'm less confident. BU is travelling up to UVM for one game this year, UVM travelled to Agganis for one last year. The cost difference is negligible between each team paying for one bus trip a year versus each team paying for a bus trip and an overnight hotel every other year. The flights to ND make the cost savings enough to easily justify the unbalanced home and road schedule, I'm not inclined to think they do in the case of any two other opponents, but I hope I'm wrong.

Plus if we get rid of the one game trips to UVM and Maine we would lose many of the Sunday games that everyone loves so much!;)

Right, the cost isn't a big deal. I was just thinking so much about price as I was about the time it takes to travel, as Scarlet mentioned a few posts above.

I feel like they could still have the series be home and home, they just wouldn't do two games in a row against the same team. Say BU goes to Maine and plays one game then plays at UNH the next day. Then later in the year Maine comes down and plays BU and then BC the next day. Less travel and no team gets the advantage (or disadvantage if you're BU the last few years) of having the entire season series on home ice. It would also keep the situation now where teams play each other at different points in the season and not just one weekend.
