Boston University 2011 Offseason

Re: Boston University 2011 Offseason

With the ink still wet on his extension, one wonders what the term "contract" actually means to this coach (and others). I hope the AD/university "wore protection".

Re: Boston University 2011 Offseason

Anyone who thought Chambers would be here more than a few years had their head up their ***. It would have been foolish for him to turn down a Big 10 job to stay at BU in our high school gym home court in a low level auto-bid conference. If he left for some low level mid major in the Atlantic 10, like Fordham or something, we could call him unfaithful to his word. Turning down a job at Penn State in the Big 10 would be unfaithful to his family and his career aspirations. Best of luck to him.

If anything, he was too successful too quickly. The risk to BU is that the program isn't really better, we had a lot of transfers and that carried us...with him gone we could lose some of those guys and risk that the interim coach can't recruit as well.

I've got no problem with him going to PSU. Aside from their performance this year in the tourney they are an enigma in the Big 10 where they just can't figure out how to compete in bball. It is a great job: big school, lots of money, big loyal fan base, low expectations and with recruits you can balance playing in the big 10 against having to live in State College, PA.

With all due respect to the assistant coach, unless he is truly HC material, we should not just make him HC...that will be a recipe for another Wolff era.

Re: Boston University 2011 Offseason

You can't forget that BC has always had more of an interest in recruiting from this area while BU looks harder into Canadian prospects. I'm just saying it's nowhere near accurate to say that maybe 2 out of local 10 kids are interested in going to BU rather than BC or Harvard.

but it's even less accurate to say 9 out of 10 chose BU i would think. suffice to say neither team lacks top recruits, period, no matter where they come from

Also, 3 of his siblings went to Penn State and I believe he has a nephew on the football team. Anyway, until BU upgrades its basketball program, they will usually lose the coaches who have success.

And if they keep losing coaches who have success, they will never upgrade their program.

Chambers (probably Penn State) bought out his contract for $300,000.

Re: Boston University 2011 Offseason

Nope. Covered it this past winter. I'm not surprised that you would have no idea what you're talking about though. It's not like BU's entire freshman class for 2013 is from New England (Collier, Grzelcyk, Erne, Baillargeon, O'Regan). O'Regan chose BU over Harvard. I believe Hetnik (2012) chose BU over BC.

O'Regan is clearly focused on academics...

Re: Boston University 2011 Offseason

I was disappointed that no one hung the "Sieve" sign above Luongo. And also that this was one of the only days of media availability I had to miss. Would've been cool just to see the setup.

Re: Boston University 2011 Offseason

Not that cool...no bruins players skated, and only 6 Vancouver players...not worth it

8 skaters, plus both goalies were on the ice. It appeared everyone else was in the rink, even if they didn't put their skates on. A young kid with a Canuck jersey got more signatures than he knew what to do with. I miss when getting autographs could give me the ear to ear smile that kid had, oh to be under 22 yet feel old:o

Just a fan of BU hockey and was wondering what the plans were for Glass who was dismissed from the team?

Re: Boston University 2011 Offseason

Now this a story worth reading. Good for all of them. It makes all the BS with hockey (and sports) so trivial when dealing with issues such as this. Nice to read that the entire team showed up to support them as well. Go BU!

The Terriers finished sixth (out of 36) in top fundraising teams. They raised $2269.62 total. We had an article in the Freep in April about this: http://dailyfreepress.com/2011/04/13/the-worthiest-cause/

Playing for Carleton University in Ottawa. Member of the CIS.

Are you joking? If not, how did this transpire? Do you know how many Americans play Canadian college hockey? By the way, Ottawa is a helluva city; he should have a great time.
