Re: Boston University 2011-2012: Part The Sixth

Interesting similarities to four years ago: two incoming freshmen goalies, the second one that commits (Maguire) ends up getting drafted before arriving while the first commit (O'Connor) is not drafted. Which of course means that O'Connor will go 29-2 this season, and Maguire will ride the bench for four years. :D:D

Re: Boston University 2011-2012: Part The Sixth

Back to the general recruiting results, I do sense a bit of a shift in BU getting more local talent than they have in the past several years. I could be wrong, but it seems like the only guys we have landed in the past few years were "lifelong BU fans" - Warsofsky, Coyle, etc. With Kurker, Collier, Grizzy (don't call me a fanboy, I just have no clue how to spell his name) and others, it seems like a shift to me.

But his name would make a great Words with Friends score! :D

No question an uptick in local talent though not sure where to place the reasoning except for maybe an overall renaissance in Massachusetts hockey talent. BU has the 2009 title but still BC has had more success recently. As I have said before, as long as they win and do well, I don't care where they are from. Still it is nice to follow the progression of a local kid.

Um ya, I don't know anything about your posting history or liveblog comments and I didn't say you personally have your head in the sand. Harry Cleverly on the other hand...

You guys always have talented teams on paper...that's my main point. It's nothing new.

Yarp, never said you made such a claim either. We're on the same page as far as I care. Seems like the *****ly started with that Dave character! :p

It filters out p_rickly... but I'm leaving that way for and increased chance of being misunderstood!

At this time of year, it is preferable to be in the sand than up your own backside.

In terms of size and style, Maguire would be closer to Millan and O'Connor more like Rollheiser. But that is probably where the comparisons should end, until we see them both play, and how this plays out.
O'Connor committed quite awhile ago, and has improved his stock greatly since then. Maguire's play lately had him rising up the draft boards.

Obviously, BU needs one of them to come up big. Both are going to get a chance.
Goaltender is the most likely position where a freshman can make the biggest impact. The forwards (DaCosta, Paul Kariya) and defensemen (Brian Leetch) that are superstars right away are less numerous than goalies, Millan and Muse being two recent examples.

As I think has been mentioned previously, the Boston schools have done quite well with breaking in new goalies recently. Muse, Millan, Milner (not a freshman but his first year as the #1)... hmmmm. Maguire starts with 'M'. My money is on him. Congrats in advance on the national title.

Thanks, and congrats on your titles in 2014 and 2016.:D

FYI to persons I have met in person and those who know me only through here (and the countless BC friends :p). I'll be at Notre Dame for grad school for the next 5+ years, so my college hockey exile ends in October! Can't wait until next year's matchups when BU visits ND when I'll of course continue to be rooting for the Terriers!

how is gerbe holding onto gryba's sweater?

You didn't cover the important info. How many of us can sleep on your floor for one weekend a year starting next year?

Congrats!

You'll also be a short 3-hour roadtrip away from Michigan and Ferris State, 2 1/2 hrs to Michigan State, 1 1/2 hrs to Western Michigan -- should the need arise. :D

I don't know what my living space will be in '13-14, but I will surely leave my door/window/hatch open for as many BU fans as I can.

Congrats!

Yeah, away games are definitely much less accessible... I'll try to get to some of them at some point.

Congratulations for deciding to extend your education at the nation's leading Catholic institution of higher learning.
