Boston University 2011-2012: Part The Sixth

Re: Boston University 2011-2012: Part The Sixth

I'd take Escobedo for the other A, if for no other reason than to have someone on the D line to have an A. I agree Courtnall really lost control too many times this year to be the C. Megan is a great choice for that, having showed lots of poise and ability in stepping up to the plate when the door opened for him to be the top offensive guy after winter break. I wouldn't equate Escobedo's out of control penalties to Courtnall's. I don't remember one instance where he got thrown out of a game, much less in a big time situation like Courtnall did against MN. Took more penalties than he should, but many were the result of playing physical, not necessarily stupidly out of control.

Re: Boston University 2011-2012: Part The Sixth

I don't think d or o should matter, it should be the quality and character of the player choosen, not the position he plays. Escobedo was tossed out of games for majors too. I can't recall the games but it did happen. However overall he is not a major penalty waiting to happen every shift like JC.

I like the way Escobedo plays, teams need that crusher on d. I meant he's known as a good natured goofball. Loosey Goosey type thats still a bit too wild at times to be the top pick as an A. I would have taken Gaudet or Rosen, but Gaudet is a moot point now. Both are older more mature players.

I read an article this week (freep?) that after 2 majors in his frosh year he had zero this year. You must be remembering a ways back.

Re: Boston University 2011-2012: Part The Sixth

What about Ryan Ruikka for an "A?" He seems like he might be a good fit. Is he coming back?

Re: Boston University 2011-2012: Part The Sixth

Ruikka is supposed to be graduating as well, but even if he did come back he is far too quite and reserved to be a captain. Not a knock on him but he's very introverted. Not what a C or A should be.

Re: Boston University 2011-2012: Part The Sixth

Ruikka won the Eilberg Scholarship so it leads me to think he is coming back. Maybe a Masters in Mathematics to go with BA in Mathematics and Bachelors/Masters in Economics he is finishing up now.

We need him to come back to keep the team GPA up. :)

Yes, he'll be back, according to someone who talked to one of the coaches at the banquet. Ruikka also received a non-hockey award-- the College of Arts & Sciences Prize for Excellence in Economics.

Re: Boston University 2011-2012: Part The Sixth

Why would he return? He's got two degrees....

If he's a finance/economics major, more degrees aren't necessarily a bad thing, so he can work toward a grad degree for free and play his final year. I doubt he's looking to pursue a professional career in hockey if he's starting graduate economics work.

Re: Boston University 2011-2012: Part The Sixth

Probably belongs n the alumni thread, but is Colin Wilson injured?

Seems Like a great guy and a true scholar athlete...but this isn't great hockey news IMHO. He's a skating screen. What was his +/- on the year?

Escobedo had back-to-back games against UNH his sophomore season in which he drew 5-minute majors. He received a hitting from behind in the first period against UNH on 19 Nov 2010 at Whittemore Center and a contact to the head late in the third the next night at Agganis Arena.

Here is the list of the top 101 players with the most career minutes/game since 1957 for players who played in more than ten games. Also note that players were not given ten minutes for game misconducts and disqualifications until the eighties. Of the 101 players on this list 7 played this past season.

This really is a great story in a year with so few of them. This is COLLEGE hockey, after all. Can't say the kid's not getting his money's worth

re: Colin Wilson

Played in all 82 regular season games last year for Nashville and then only in three of their I believe 12 playoff games. May have been injured, but I think it was the same scenario as this year...healthy scratch. He had a career best 35 points in 68 games, so I'm not sure what the deal is with him and Trotz. I do know that Trotz is very structured defensively and demanding in that regard. Who knows.
