But the next best line of the night was "That was good recognization by the BC defense." Huh???? Did he mean "recognition?" Jeez...

Gotta give Barry Melrose credit; he's ridden that one Stanley Cup run by LA for almost 20 years.

So is the ice as bad as it looked on TV? It looked like the teams were skating in quicksand. I can only imagine what the score would have been with good ice...

I was surprised, being an NHL building and all. I know it's hot and humid, but is the ice like this when the Lighting play?

You thought BC looked like they were skating in "quicksand?" They looked to me like they were skating on Zambonied ice at the North Pole.

Well, what I saw was players losing edges all over the ice and the puck bouncing everywhere...players having to put more "steam" on their passes because the ice was soft and slow, pucks hopping over sticks, pucks sticking. I didn't say "BC" was skating in quicksand, I said "the teams." I wasn't implying an advantage or disadvantage for anyone. I just thought the game would have been much faster with good ice (and that probably would have been to BC's advantage). Let's put it this way, when we played them, Minnesota was clearly faster than we were and they CERTAINLY weren't faster last night. Considering that they were extremely pumped for this (from everything I have seen and read on these threads) you would have thought they would have been flying, so SOMETHING slowed down the pace...based on what I had seen in the previous couple of games, I thought Minnesota had an excellent chance to win that game last night...silly me...

So it all begins anew next October in the Hall of Fame Game at Denver?

Oh good, so he did correct himself. That was my doing. :) I texted Sean Grande (who was doing the radio play by play) and told him and also how Gary Thorne didn't correct him and he texted me back that he took care of it.

On a completely separate note, Tampa is pretty sweet. I would definitely come to another Frozen Four here.

Name dropper :)

We're not going to Denver next year, are we? Denver and UND are probably 2 of the 3 trips I'd most like to go om, but I doubt I can swing both in my first year as an "adult."

Well said, Sir. And he had pretty much the entire the best offense from the Oiler days. Gretz, Sandstrom, Kurri....
Not to mention a very young Rob Blake.

I caught that one as well. Made me chuckle.

He also kept saying that it was Hayes (12) that fed Kreider on the third goal, but it was 17 (name escapes me at the moment - Straight - no he's 27?). He finally got it right late in the broadcast, on about the 5th time of showing the replay.

Re: Boston University 2011-2012: Part The Sixth

Does anyone in BU's athletic department say "you know Jack, why is it that the rival school has won 3 out of 5 national championships and we've won one in 17 years" or is that just not spoken of in the halls of BU.

Because if you used BC as a comparison, every other coach in the nation would be fired.

Forget about the NC's just the # of NCAA tournament wins, HE titles, FF appearances is enough and the overall FF stat for all teams posted here previously. This has been a slighty above average program since 1998, second tier for including all Eastern programs. No longer a premier program. Add this to the shenanigans going on off ice and guys leaving the team for various reasons of discipline or otherwise. Throw in the fact that your biggest "rival" has ate his lunch for 15 years is enough for and out and out dismissal. If this doesnt happen this off season we have a case of alot of clueless or powerless admins at BU. Besides the expected continued early departures that will happen around here soon atleast 2 more and losing of committed recruits whose families dont trust or respect Parker enough at this point (Kurker is gone just a matter of who he chooses, look for 1 or 2 more one of which is most likley Ballageron (sp?), somone in "power" needs to pay attention to this.

Re: Boston University 2011-2012: Part The Sixth

I don't think he goes, he's won 3 NC's and a good record overall in his tenure. BU is still a top ranked program and he leaves when he's ready to step down. We suffered greatly in the 90s when BU racked up all those wins and won a record string of Beanpots on hapless BC. We were the laughing stock of HE and thankful JY righted the ship and put BC back to respectability and earn some hardware.

BC struggled from 92 to 97 = 6 years. Granted, they REALLY stunk during that time. Lots of losing records, coaching issues, scholarship issues, etc. While BU has generally be in able to stay in the top half of HE, with a few exceptions mixed in, the problem is that other than 2009, BU is on a 15 year dry-spell. For BC, ever since they found the right guy to drive the bus, they have been the top program in the country. For BU, the BIG change has not happened, so we limp along, with an occasional NCAA appearance, an occasional Benapot title,...all just enough to keep some people content. But the rest of the fanbase is really getting frustrated.

Re: Boston University 2011-2012: Part The Sixth

Like the Patriots, Jerry York has put together a model that works and they continue to utilize it in terms of their approach to recruiting in order to re-stock.

Someone in an earlier post opined about BU having NHL draft picks etc and why did the team not make the FF. Fact is Hockey remains a team sport and you can have all kinds of "superstars" but it doesn't necessarily translate into FF titles.

Years ago a fellow whom I knew had scored 100+ goals in Bantam and that was his hockey highlight prior to coming to college. His ultimate ledger was 3 games, 1 assist.

These things are cyclic in nature and we had good runs in the 70's and 90's. Were there a couple of additional FF titles that we could have won? Sure 1991 and 1997come to mind. And in woulda, coulda, shoulda, had we not lost 3 top players to pro hockey we may have won a third straight in 1973.

I don't lose any sleep over these things. By Monday I will have a new identity in the witness protection program and a job in Montana and my Eagle Friends will not be able to find me for their traditional zings!

Re: Boston University 2011-2012: Part The Sixth

Is there any reason to think we get to No. 6 before they do?

Is there any reason to think they don't get numbers 6-10 before we get number 6 is the REAL question IMHO.

I've been following college hockey since 1991 and have NEVER seen anything like this.

They figure it out every single year. Every. Single. Year.

And make the FF. And win. York is the best college hockey coach ever. There is no debate. Jack could coach another 10 years and win another 200 games, and not be close.

They could easily be on #8 if they held on against Michigan State and didn't have to play Wisconsin at home.

I guess we could make the case for BU in that regard as well...

Re: Boston University 2011-2012: Part The Sixth

Very true.

It's hard b/c they are our rival and they are geographically so close. At times I'm certain Parker's time is up, but then 23-15 record and two points away from a HE title isn't so bad.

I bet fans at Brown and the like think we're ridiculous.

If you put Warsofsky, Trivino, Nicastro, and Coyle on this team this year we're singing a different tune. But they weren't on the team and maybe, just maybe that's Parker's fault?

Then again if you put Jimmy Hayes and Cam Atkinson on BC this year we might be talking about the first undefeated team in history...

Re: Boston University 2011-2012: Part The Sixth

Hey guys. Happy Easter.

Question: Is this the worst thing ever? Or are there things worse than this? Just curious.
