Re: Boston University 2011-2012: Part The Sixth

The rumor at the time was that Lilley and JP had a difference of opinion regarding Lilley's style of play and approach .
Wow, hadn't heard Lilley's name in a long time. My family lived in Wakefield, and he was something of a youth hockey phenom. defkit was right, played 23 game in total for the Ducks back in the mid '90's. Here's his career:

Don't poke fun at him, his name is on The Cup.

All in jest. I actually know him (a little) as he roomed across from a very good friend on Bay State Road. Also ran into him at the Mark Bavis memorial service in Roslindale.

When I think of him and the cup, I think of two things. 1) his goal in the finals was a pass that Gretzky deflected into his own net and 2) the story of how Pat Burns didn't know who he was when he tried to board the team bus after his first call-up from the minors, and tried to stop him from getting on.

Ed was slow to find his footing at BU and then exploded in his Junior year, and continued to get the goals and points his senior year playing with Tomlinson and Koskimaki. And actually, both of his goals in that title game involved some deft stick work (deflected an aerial pass down with his stick to go in on a breakaway, and deflected a Scott Lachance shot from the point).

Hey give Reasoner credit, the guy had to reinvent himself to stay in the league and become a different player. Not many guys are willing or even capable of doing that. But he did. And he's been cashing the checks ever since.QUOTE]

The same formula Jay Pandolfo, the Hobey runner-up in 1996, used to win 2 rings with the Devils.

I think you hit the nail on the head about what makes the whole thing so incredible: there wasn't that third guy anywhere on the editorial board of the Freep! It's shameful really. I forget where I read it, but somebody suggested the Freep do a whole issue devoted to sexual assault education. God knows it sounds like there are some people at the freep even who could stand to be educated.

Wonder if they've been contacted by Disney yet for using that particular newspaper title...

Eh, it's clearly (bad) satire, and is exempt from any of those laws. I think the Disney lawyers would be smart enough to realize that. If I recall correctly, you can't claim that someone is using your name without permission, they can merely say that the offending party is assuming that there's some sort of endorsement. For example, Al Franken wrote a book with the subtitle "A fair and balanced look at the right." Fox News sued him for "fair and balanced," thinking that Fox News was somehow endorsing the book. Fox was laughed out of the courtroom. So no, Disney isn't stupid enough to sue.

I was thinking the same thing but more for use of the images of Donald and Aladdin. At this point it was a one and done print-only thing so I doubt they want to pursue but the fact there are pictures of it all over these stories all over the country (and beyond) can't make them very happy.

Either way, incredibly stupid concept.

I also was wondering about the use of the Disney font on the front page, which also includes the Disney logo. Don't know if that falls under a fair use clause. At some level, if I were Disney I'd fire off a nasty letter for associating their name and logo with such garbage.

Re: Boston University 2011-2012: Part The Sixth

Have not followed closely enough to really comment, but at a glance some that I wonder if they would have been better off staying:

David Warsofsky (dont think he has played in NHL yet?)
Nick Bonino (26 NHL games 0 points in 10-11)
Colby Cohen (has mostly been in AHL I think?)
Chris Bourque (go to class numbnuts)

And it doesn't bode well for Warsofsky and Cohen that a kid who played for Michigan State a week and a half ago skated with the big club last night. Especially when said kid is Warsofsky's size.

Re: Boston University 2011-2012: Part The Sixth

Having Krug join the Bruins and pushing Warsofsky down the list a bit is sorta like crossing the streams in Ghostbusters to hokydad I would imagine.

Based on what I read, it sounds like in order to get him, they had to sign him to a deal that kept him with the big boys this season. Now, that doesn't mean that they needed to give him a start. He must have looked decent enough in practice for them to consider putting him out there. Granted, with no place to move from 2nd in the conference, there was little risk from a team perspective in doing so.

Pre game video montage here at the Frozen Four showed Corey Trivino. Does no one review these things?

And Melrose just said to that "most of the 1980 USA Miracle on Ice team came from these 2 programs." Someone tell BC Director of Athletic Development Mike Eruzione he's been working the wrong end of Comm Ave. for 30 years. Cripes.

Worst part...Thorne agreed with him.

THankfully, someone noticed, and Melrose corrected himself in the third period.

Well, I guess I was wrong about Minnesota having a chance. It's amazing how different those two games were yesterday. Tomorrow night could get ugly.

But the next best line of the night was "That was good recognization by the BC defense." Huh???? Did he mean "recognition?" Jeez...

Re: Boston University 2011-2012: Part The Sixth

Oh good, so he did correct himself. That was my doing. :) I texted Sean Grande (who was doing the radio play by play) and told him and also how Gary Thorne didn't correct him and he texted me back that he took care of it.

On a completely separate note, Tampa is pretty sweet. I would definitely come to another Frozen Four here.

Re: Boston University 2011-2012: Part The Sixth

It's BC's world and we are all just living in it.

If Save Ferris scores more than one goal tomorrow I will be stunned.
