Re: Boston University 2010-11 Part III - Is That So Much To Ask?

I remember something else like this happening but I must have blocked it out of my memory for some reason...

Did they even have a NCAA tournament championship game last season? I blacked out I think...

Re: Boston University 2010-11 Part III - Is That So Much To Ask?

to be fair, if we are talking about you blacking out we could be referring to a number of weekends/time periods

haha lets leave my personal history out this and get back to the hockey...so who does everyone want in the semifinal IF we get to the garden(chill NU fans I said if)? UNH seems to be a good matchup in my opinion if they get by UVM this year

Re: Boston University 2010-11 Part III - Is That So Much To Ask?

In order:
1. 5000- There should be plenty of students there so hopefully those sections fill up but obviously less families/people in the real world in attendance than on a weekend
2. 5000- There will be less students but alot more families and real world people in the building so I think that offsets the lack of students
3. 1500- This is a bit of a hopeful number because the students never go to these games anyway so I would think alot of people will want to see a conference championship game and maybe a few students stay. I know quite a bit who are staying a day later to go to the game
4. 600
5. 1000- Conference championship game on a Sat night should draw pretty well
6. 4700- No students left but with two boston schools it should be pretty full otherwise

I surely hope the men's bball game gets more than that or else it's going to look really sad and pathetic on national television. Stony Brook (the opposing team) is going to be bringing a few 100 fans as well as their band, dance team, etc. to try and take away the home court advantage.

Haven't picked up my ticket yet but pretty excited for this game. I'll be one of those students staying an extra day and hopefully I'll get to rush the court - it'll be my last opportunity as a student :(.

True...the only mitigating factor is that they will block off the ends with those curtains and try to get everyone to move into the center to give at least the APPEARANCE of a larger crowd. It is what is is. We're not a basketball school. It doesn't help that I wouldn't be at all surprised if Chambers gets an offer after the season and is out of here (despite the five-year contract). Young coaches that are on the move will use schools like BU as steppingstones. That makes it difficult to achieve any continuity within the program.

Nothing like storming the court against Stony Brook! :D

Good news with Chambers is that this is his first year as a HC and they have enough losses to not have him look like a miracle worker. So, he might need another NCAA appearance to convince a bigger school he is ready. Brey spent a few years at Delaware between AC at Duke and HC at ND...they need enough time to convince the bigger school they can recruit and run a decent program...2-3 years makes sense. He is from the 'nova family and Jay Wright knows lots of people so at some point Chambers will leave (if he continues to be successful). The issue for BU isn't losing Pitino or Jarvis, it is who they replace them with...no reason they can't get another good coach if they put the time into it vs. hiring another Wolff.

As soon as the BU-Hartford game ended I got excited to attend this game with my son. Yep, I'm a fair-weather BU hoops fan, but I'm looking forward to the game. I asked a friend of mine to go with me and he asked if I thought it would sell out. I nearly fell off my chair. :) Here's hoping there are a lot of alumni like me who come out of the wood work to make this a decent atmosphere. Go BU! Oh, and Go Crimson too!

Unless I've completely lost it, I believe it's his second year.

don't doubt yourself, it is more likely I've lost track of time...which my good friend Google confirms...obviously 2010 went by quickly for me!!

Re: Boston University 2010-11 Part III - Is That So Much To Ask?

So, last November when I was in New York for RHH, I spent that Friday afternoon with my niece in line in Times Square to get tickets to a Broadway show. We waited in line for about 2 hours. It was cold. It was tiring. I finally get up to the window to ask if there were any available tickets for Mamma Mia. The guy sees my hockey jacket.

Ticket Guy: You go to BU?
Me: Yes, well, I went to BU.
Ticket Guy: You know Dennis Woolf?
Me: Yeah, he was the basketball coach, he's not there any more.
Ticket Guy: Yeah, well, it wasn't his fault.
Me: Um, well, the new guy is doing OK.
Ticket Guy: Oh really? How?
Me: They just beat Indiana!
Ticket Guy: Yeah, well, it wasn't Woolf's fault.
Me: Maybe if Woolf could beat a team like Stony Brook to get to the NCAAs he might still be there.
Ticket Guy: *glare* What tickets do you need?

How random was that? Seriously, I was like "Do you see my jacket says HOCKEY? I could give a rat's *** about basketball right now as I'm FREEZING. Just sell me the tickets I waited in line for two hours for!!!" On the inside. :) So, now Coach Chambers is in the same position. It seems like Stony Brook has killed BU's chances more than once in the tournament. Here's hoping the same fate does not occur.

Oh, and we really need to stop wearing the fourth jerseys. I have no idea why he had them wear them on Saturday (FL - do you know?). As soon as I saw the team skating around in warmups in them I knew we were going to lose. Those jerseys have not been kind to us this season. They wore out their luck in April 2009.

Scarlet, is it only that one thing that made you think we were going to lose?;)

If it wasn't the jerseys it seems you might have had another thing or two that made you expect the worst. Not to say you weren't right. I agreed with you last week that whenever we think BU is only one win from success, we usually get a L.

Just funny that you attribute it to the jersey vs. just BU being BU:)...it could have been what the zamboni driver ate for dinner, who sang the anthem or mookie's review of the nachos...the track record said we lose that game.

Two questions for the group...is RHH definitely on for this T'giving weekend? and is the first BU/NU game going to be on TV?

That's what next year's program for full and half season tickets says...it doesn't say if it's scheduled for MSG though. I assume and pray that this is true after that failure that was the Thanksgiving game for Cornell this year in Newark

Prior to the game starting? Yes. :)

I believe the answer to your first question is yes. I have no idea about the second one, but it's probably no - NESN is covering the Bruins. Unless it's on NESN Plus (or whatever that channel is).

I would hope it's at MSG... I think that is probablly a good assumption. At this point it wouldn't be Red Hot Hockey if it were somewhere else..

What happened in Newark?

Hmmm, I'm going to need to fly in that day so in some ways Newark might give me more time but I'd much rather have it be MSG again...been to the first two and have a colleague with a kid at Cornell planning to join me...I've sold them on the NYC aspect...something tells me Newark won't be the same lure.

Re: Boston University 2010-11 Part III - Is That So Much To Ask?

about 5,400 people showed up at the Rock to see Cornell face Colgate...which seats like 17,600. Beuaitful arena, but getting people to go to Newark for college hockey didn't work.
