I agree, very well said, Federal League. It's nice to have someone close to the situation, who is also unbiased. I, too, forgot how bad Noonan's hit was against the RPI player in his defensive zone. I can't believe it wasn't a 5 minute penalty.

me too, fighting is stupid at this age. the point was college is a gladiator/bowling alley because cages and zero accountability. you see the same players in summer pro leagues run off the ice at the first sign of conflict but will puch a kid in cage during season

I know, but that has never stopped them before. Sheesh FL. You've been here long enough. You're surprised to see that this was cross posted? I'm just wating for JD and Slasher7 to show up to regurgitate their posts from that thread, too. Which I'm sure will happen shortly.

Is anyone going to the US U20 game at RPI on Sunday? (In Troy, NY game at 4)

I'm not going to get my car back in time (accident on way to Dartmouth on Sunday) (rental isn't an option, because I'm an eejit and didn't read something and apparently have to take a class before I can drive and first one offered is Saturday). ANYWAY, if anyone is going and would give me a ride for the gas money, I would be extremely grateful.

After covering the World Juniors in Sweden, Czech Republic, Ottawa and Saskatoon, I can't afford to cover them in Buffalo. This would be my only opportunity to shoot the US team so am particularly bummed right now.

Thanks. (and yes, I am desperate so posting in Cafe and BC threads as well - figured w/ number of BU kids, maybe someone might go)

OK...Moving on from the RPI debacle.

Who here thinks that BU should bring back the post goal fog horn they tried briefly in the 08-09 season?

I love the band, the fight song, and the sieve chant, but I really liked the horn.

I don't think it has to be one or the other. Can't we have a goal, a horn or two, and then the usual routine?

I really liked (sort of) the horns at BC and RPI. I think it adds a lot to the experience.

Thoughts?

So where do we go from here? I'm definitely not at the point of jumping off the cliff as many seem to be on the boards.

A very promising start to the season.. In truth probably "over-ranked" at number one (although not unjustified either, as other teams were losing and we didn't)... even at the time, it did seem as if we backed our way in there a bit. The Merrimack ties now don't seem so bad not that it seems like this is "not your fathers Merrimack team" (would it have been better to win one and lose one?). An awful loss up at UNH, but rebounded with a good win at home. And of course the good old fashioned shellacking from BC... (which in truth to me was not totally unexpected knowing the speed that BC has among their forwards)... The RPI and NU games I'm not as concerned about... pretty tough to play 4 games in 8 days.

Hoping we can take a step back over the break for a little re-grouping. I think we need some sort of change in the defensive scheme ... gotta reduce the number of shots on goal (especially against teams with a lot of speed at forward)... maybe a little bit of good old fashioned NJ Devils style hockey should be on tap for 2011?

I liked it a lot... they just needed to coordinate it...

He shoots, he scores, a couple of blasts from the foghorn, then the band strikes up with the song.... and hopefully the student section drops the "bc sucks" / "the song" from the seive chant. Edit: (do they still do that during the Seive chant?)

I agree 100%. This BU team needs to make entry into their zone a little bit tougher. This sag and hope for poor angle shots plan doesn't seem to be working that well anymore.

I'm not too worried about the record, but this team doesn't pass the "eye test". Other than the home games with UNH and Maine, when did you see this team play really well at home? Providence, UMASS, Merrimack, and UML all seemed to outshoot us handily and carry the bulk of the play. The Brown and NU games were also fortunate outcomes. Lastly, if you look at goal differential (-1) compared the top teams in HE we are way off. In fact all of BU's NCAA qualifying teams have been about +20-30 over the years.

Not to mention the special teams play...

Again, I agree that the record is fine. Much better start than many years but I fear with the loss of Coyle, Nieto, and Clendening the record might be 8-6-5 before we know it.

Then you have to really wonder what is going to become of this season since the schedule looks tough from here on out.

EDIT: According to the HE page the 08-09 team was +86 in goal differential and +302 in shots. This doesn't even seem possible.

Definatley agree.... I'm not going to say the #1 ranking was unjustified (since other teams were losing and we didn't)... but it sure never felt like we were the #1 team in the nation. That being said, I do think we have seen some flashes of brilliance (mixed in with a good ammount of ughh)...

The BC posters on this site are like a pack of chipmunks.

Whenever a chipmunk finds an acorn, he calls to his buddies who scurry over. They chirp wildly and tear at the acorn until all the meat is gone. They scatter until one of them finds another fresh acorn. The rest mince over and they cry and devour this acorn. And so on.

Jack Parker acts up and they prance over to the BU-RPI thread, cackle and tear at the thread for all its worth. If BC’s due to play UNH, they’ll rush over to the UNH thread to poke fun at the hayseeds for a while. If UML is next on the schedule, they’ll be sure to hurry to the UML thread to take some nasty shots at Blaise MacDonald.

Yeah, that BU-RPI thread really went to hell in a handbasket. What's amazing is that I actually agreed with them that BU was out of line at the end of the game, yet the minute I suggest that Parker is not in fact a disgrace to college hockey, I'm a fanboy, homer and all-around moron. They don't even realize how ignorant and fanboyish they themselves sound in almost every thread. The hypocrisy's hilarious.
