The season is as young as our freshman. The freshman look fine: its the upperclassmen that seem to have taken a step back.

Part of me wants to say Colin Wilson, because he was always there to finish the play and get the puck in the back of the net... but I could say the same about JLaw, McCarthy, Gilroy, and Yip too.

This has happened the last three games (although I know one was a win) and I'm starting to think it's more a we're-taking-bad-shots than we're-facing-amazing-goalies, and it certainly won't stand as an excuse for the entire year.

I know it's weird to quote yourself... but I don't know what else to say.

So many shots, no goals... so many chances and absolutely no finishing.

The part of the third period where it felt like we were on a power play for five minutes and completely controlled the puck but could not score seemed to define this feeling. I honestly still can't believe we didn't score on so many good opportunities.

I hope we fix it, maybe it's just going to take a bit of time. If everybody had made a couple of little adjustments and done a couple things a little bit differently this game could have been a 7-2 win... but it wasn't, we're anywhere near there yet.

Game thoughts:

--Never have I seen so many blocked shots by defensemen/forwards. It almost looked like we were shooting it right into their pads. Only in the 3rd did we start to duck around the defenders.

--Again, a lot of shots into Phillips' gut.

--I think this team needs to stop trying the go-to play of last season: forward skates it into the zone on the boards, pulls a D-man over and centers it to another forward. We tried it a couple times tonight and the centering pass sailed across the ice, giving a pretty good breakout for ND. The forwards seem to want the other winger to pick it up, not themselves. Either stop it or do it right.

--2 clean breakaways and not even a shot on net between the two of them? Inexcuseable.

I guess at least I need to officially acknowledge the fact that this team is going to be nowhere near last year's team.

you got the reason correct, but the player wrong.

Jason Lawrence.

that guy who got all those easy goals due to great playmaking? raise your hand if you'd like to have one of those guys right now. we have no one right now who can finish and put the puck in the net when the puck is thrown in front of the net and no one who has a nose for the puck like he did who always was in great position to put home a rebound or receive a pass.

the same argument can be made to a lesser extent with Yip a swell.

I guess you're right... Hey, I included him in the after thought... for some reason I just have lots of pictures of Colin being that guy in my head... Maybe it's just that one last goal against UVM :D

Note: Warso looked god-like, again.

no doubt wilson was a great playmaker AND scorer, but there are guys on this team who are good playmakers but no one is on the other end to be in the right position to cash in on that opportunity.

BU beat NU tonite 5-2 on NESN a much better watch. Those were the days my friend..

3rd period was better, there were a couple shots that really were great saves by Phillips. Chaisson doing a wrap around realizing the goalie was on the post so he took another step and fired far post only to have it just deflected wide by the blade of the goalies skate is the most glaring in my memory. But pushing the puck wide of the post on consecutive breakaways should successfully wipe the good memories from people's minds.

Complete this sentence.

BU misses ________ most from last year's team because...

I hope I'm wrong but through two games "senior class determined to erase three years of bad memories" seems accurate right now, the Shattys, Boninos, and Grybas of 09-10 need to be as dedicated to the repeat as the Gilroys, McCarthys, and Straits were dedicated to the first. A title can result in complacency or drive to repeat, lets hope this is the last game we see complacency.

So I have to say that Parker knew what he was doing when he scheduled the banner raising for the 10th. Because that would have pretty much been horrific if the banners went up tonight. Oy. Not the way I wanted my Best Birthday Week Ever to start.

If it didnt the ND goal that came 20 seconds after one of them should have.

Unless it inspired them and we had a better start than the lackluster shuffle out of the gate tonight. We'll never know, but if putting last year behind them really is still the issue, the banners should have been raised at Agganis the day of the parade.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

First, to the person who responded to my post saying that there would be no way we see a return of the 0-0 tie this year, you are absolutely correct. There is no way this team will ever shut out their opponents.

Does Jack Parker know that the offseason is over? What a load of ****. This team is simply completely unprepared to play games that count. It has become crystal clear that our non-slow start last season had nothing to do with Parker and a lot to do with senior leadership. I'm wondering how long into this season it will take for us to realize that the results from last year had more to do with overwhelming talent and senior leadership than it did with coaching.

Saponari needs to practice shooting the puck. He cost us two goals tonight. Twice he got the puck right on his stick, right to the side of a wide-open net and held it until their goalie got back into position. Not the reason we lost, but certainly the reason why we were shut out for the first time since that 0-0 game against Lowell in winter '07.

Agree with the breakaways and not getting a shot on goal. Though from my angle it looked like Connolly at least pushed the puck off the goalie's pads.

Finally, I find it interesting that from the very first moments of the game, the only players who showed up to play were the freshmen (I did think Andy Glass had a great game). If that doesn't scream complacency, I don't know what does.

at least then you could say, "at least the banners went up tonight" ;)

how long until we can start to 'boo'?

how come no "defending triple crown champion" tonight?

how come bulldog waits to salute the crowd, glass hangs around with his helmet off, then the team leaders head down the runway? was tonight our fault?

i had a bad feeling on Oct 3rd, and y'all told me "they haven't had practice yet!" "it's too early!" "it's an exhibition!".

i still have a bad feeling. i worry science has cloned former employee #6.

DON'T RUIN MY WINTAH!!!!!! :( :( :( :(

A. JP's orders

B. It's two weeks later and the team still didn't salute the crowd after losses or ties last year, yes I disagree with it too, but we have people praising last year's captains for doing a form of stick salute, and upset at this year's captains for doing the exact same thing the previous captains did.

i don't give a chit one way or another. but much like it seems that these guys on the ice have never played with one another, it would be nice to see that something stupid and simple like a stick tap can be EXPLAINED TO THE ENTIRE TEAM AS TO WHEN TO DO IT OR WHEN NOT TO.

Judging from how they played, it's possible they weren't even aware whether they had won or lost.
