Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

whatever.

Yeah, I don't know why it matters since I believe Prior announced the team that way in 95-96, but I had the same reaction.

i don't give a chit one way or another. but much like it seems that these guys on the ice have never played with one another, it would be nice to see that something stupid and simple like a stick tap can be EXPLAINED TO THE ENTIRE TEAM AS TO WHEN TO DO IT OR WHEN NOT TO.

Fair complaint, Bulldog reportedly isn't one of the brightest on the team though (besides in terms of GPA).

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

i had a bad feeling on Oct 3rd, and y'all told me "they haven't had practice yet!" "it's too early!" "it's an exhibition!".

i still have a bad feeling. i worry science has cloned former employee #6.

You did indeed say that, but I say it's far too early to be raising this kind of stink. We all dislike the slow starts, but this team won't take until January to find its way. The power play didn't click until game 5 last year, this was game 2. There were more upperclassmen and guys who were used to playing with each other last year. I truly don't believe there was all that much more talent, but it was already more of a team at this point last year.

Have patience, though! Two games do not a season make! (Unless of course they're on the first two Mondays of February. :p )

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

OK, so I'd meant to develop a lengthy rant that would write off the entire season, call for ripping down the banners, and involve the nickname "ChrisChoke." But I just can't do it. Maybe my pessimism is mellowing with advanced age, but I can't shake the bizarre feeling that this team is going to be just fine come March. That having been said, BU's schedule isn't going to get much easier before the bye week (Maine-Mack-Mack). If 2007 was any indication, limping out of the gate like this sets up poorly for the winter, when the inevitable injuries/setbacks pop up and you have to tweak the gameplan.

And "Shay-saww" is one of the coolest name pronunciations I've heard yet. "Esco-bee-doo," not so much.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

late to the party, but....

team needs to get it through their heads that they can't just flip a switch and turn on the "Win" like last years squad. hard work is going to be the hallmark of this year's "offensively-challenged" roster, and until they do it for more than the last 10 minutes out of 60, the wins are going to remain elusive, especially against opponents who are capable of putting the biscuit in the basket.

i did like the defensive play through the first period and the early second, it seemed ND couldnt keep the puck in our zone for more than 15 seconds at a time. even the transition hockey wasnt so bad, but boy-oh-boy in the offensive zone...

work them hard this week parker. make them acknowledge that their character is far more important than their skills this year

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

Did they change the intro stuff this year? I don't remember the lights going out and the video board presentation happening after the away team intros. Not sure I like that. It seems kind of disjointed.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

Waited a bit before posting to let the disappointment dissipate. (Note - it's tough to watch a game like last night's while reading Scott's book - makes the game even more disappointing...)

I was very impressed with Gryba's play. I'm thinking that the A on his sweater might make him more confident (not that I think he should try and be an offensive-defenseman).

Zack Cohen looks even bigger than I remember him looking last season (I assume this is a product of the Boyle training program). I'm hoping for big things from him this season after the season he had last year. He had at least 2 *big* hits.

Like others said, I'm hoping the Connolly situation is just a case of nerves or preseason jitters.

I'm not sure Bonino can carry the team (or his line) like I (and I expect a few others) had hoped. He has flashes of brilliance, but nothing really sustained.

Good showing by Glass and Nicastro last night. I thought they both played hard. On the flip side, I continue to be totally unimpressed by Trivino. I chalked up last season's floundering to the injury he sustained earlier in the season and not making a full recovery, but he reminds me an awful lot of Employee #6 when he's out there.

Saw Wilson in the stands last night and it took all my might not to go up to him and ask if he could quietly sneak back to the dressing room, put on a jersey, and head out on the ice...

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

Lack of chemistry on the forward lines was obvious. It is only two games into the season and linemates can/should get used to each other. But with the team struggling to score, I'm wondering if the 2nd line might be better served by putting Glass or Megan on the left wing. No disrespect to Z. Cohen here, but his game seems better suited to the 3rd line, especially with a power forward type like Chiasson already on the 2nd line. Glass and Megan, on the other hand, are guys with good puckhandling skills that might turn the 2nd line into more of a scoring threat. I didn't see the UMass game but with Megan on that line, they scored two goals. Why not go back to that?

A couple of other quick points:

- For the most part, Santana's play was a pleasant surprise. I figured he would be hard-pressed to get on the ice his Freshman year but he looks like a keeper.

- IMO, Warsofsky was the best player on the ice for BU. With the PP looking as bad as it did, shouldn't he be getting additional ice time on that unit?

- Imagine how many shots on goal BU would have had if they actually won some faceoffs.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

I feel like I've gone from dating Megan Fox to Ugly Betty.

Someone switched the DVD from The Godfather to Waterworld.

My medium rare filet has been replaced by tofu.

I kid. It really isn't that bad. But, this certainly isn't last year's team. (But we all knew that, right? Right!?) As CC said, It's only two games. (I have matched my loss total from last year. Yep, I only witnessed one of the six loses. PC.) Maybe I'm experiencing a bit of a hangover from last year myself. (Actually, I think I am. I had a hard time getting fired up for this game. And everytime I saw #21 and #18, and #10, I had happy flashbacks.)

Give them some time. I thought this team was a 3rd or 4th place team going in. (NCAA's: Yes. FF: No.) They are going to get better. They are going to win some big games. They aren't going to suck all year. (The 3rd period gave me hope.) I think the Sophomores and Juniors are going to need time adjusting to the fact THEY are the leadership now. THEY are the guys.

Let's talk goaltending. I'm a wee bit concerned. A good D1 goalie stops two of those goals. The 3rd was Dairy Queen soft. I hope Rollie gets healthy soon to light a fire under #31's ***. (And here I was making fun of BB a few posts ago. A badger could throw Millan's performance last night right in my face.)

Bottom line: The negativity in this thread sucks. Colin Wilson isn't walking through that door. Jason Lawrence isn't walking through that door. And if they did, they'd be ineligiable and there would be lots of sanctions and suspensions.

BU Hockey: Hungover

IIRC it's the same style as last year - lights go out, team comes out while a video plays (this year it's the captains saying like "hard work," "the will to win," ect.) and then the lights come back on for the visiting team intros. Then the lights go out again and another video plays and then BU is introduced. Fairly certain it's the same format as it has been, just different videos.

Everyone's saying the same type of thing, and I agree with it all. Last night was more difficult to watch than I expected, mostly because of how about midway through the second I came to the realization of how spoiled I (and all Terrier fans) were last year. It was tough to get into the game (for me at least), but I konw it's a long season and the team will (hopefully) improve in all areas.

Definitely seemed like BU played down to ND's level. I really don't think ND is very good, especially in the first period.

There was a period of what seemed like 3 minutes in the third period that the puck was in the ND zone with shot after shot and chance after chance. For me that was the most promising part of the game. That or the HUGE Zach Cohen hit in the second period.

And as much as I want Bonino to play 60 minutes in every position I guess he really can't. He was and I'm sure will be the most talented player on the ice.

It's a long season. That could be good or bad.

Last year was the first year of dual pregame videos. About 8 minutes before the start they would turn the lights out and play the first one which featured yip and co. getting dressed. This was directly followed by a second video with the lights still off featuring the definition of "house" as the team skated onto the ice in the dark. This year they enter to one video while the lights are on then Prior announces the away team then they turn off the lights and play the 2nd video. The second half of04-05 through 07-08 featured one video run at the same time as the second video is run this year also with the lights turned out and they would just enter the rink to the band playing.

Complete this sentence.

BU misses _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ most from last year's team because...

I agree 100% with slurpees, Jason Lawrence. The puck kept appearing in front of Philips only to be whisked out without ever touching a BU stick. On probably 5 occasions I yelled "JLo woulda had that!." He didn't have the flare of Colin Wilson, but how many times has Parker said that games are won with gritty goals, not cute ones.

Also, saw Wilson was in the house. I did wonder to myself if he was thinking "Look at what they're like without me..."

Another thing, did anyone else find Colby Cohen's introduction to the audience funny? What do you need to work on? "Well coach has told me a couple times that I'm too offensive. Like on the bench, in the tunnel, in the locker room." I wanted to add "everyday of your life." Not complaining, his offense has paid off in the past, and despite his mistakes I can't help but like him, but come on, you can only downplay your weaknesses so much...

On one final note, last week at the U-18 game I saw a couple of red t-shirts that had five little white NC trophies on the back, with the years BU has won underneath them. I don't know what the front looks like. I was hoping to see one last night so that I could ask where to get one, but no such luck. Do any of you all know where they can be found?

My friend had one - they were exclusive custom made for a select few. Really awesome shirts though.

Must be a different one than I'm talking about.

On another note - I got the poster which I didn't get after the U-18 game - they had a ton of them at Guest Services and just gave me one when I asked.

I think that LW1 should be Zach Cohen actually. Bonino is too easily marked, and Cohen's puck pursuit and control were things that I took notice of throughout the game. He'd be valuable to throw around his size, and could be that crash the net guy that line needs. I think Glass played very well, too, and he could be a second-line guy easily. There is still plenty of forward talent on this team, but it will take time for them to realize it.

Continual line shuffling can be the worst thing for a team, but an 0-5 start would not be good either. A losing mentality due to a bad start would certainly turn the page on last year.

Several parts of this article confuse me. Interesting.
