Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

I just did the math:

We have 5 points through 9 HE games. We need around 30 points to get the 4th slot, which means 12-7-1 over the remaining games.

And if we don't finish the regular season in the top 4 in HE, we will need to win the tournament to go to the NCAAs.

Discuss.

Fourth place in HE in no way guarantees an NCAA bid. Two years ago, BU finished second and made it to the Garden, and still didn't get in. That team went 19-17-4 overall. Given, that team also went 1-5-1 in OOC games excluding the Beanpot, which is what really killed them. So far, this year's team is 2-1-1 in OOC games. A win over RPI would be big for PWR purposes, but I still don't think it would guarantee that a 17-14-3 record would be good enough to get into the NCAAs (they'd probably be one of the last in/last out with that record).

Eric is just saying that if the team finishes anywhere below 4th even if they make the HE tourney final and lose they still wont be in, which is likely. I would actually be surprised if BU goes worse than 12-7-1 down the stretch, just based on recent history, but the way HE looks this year with a ton of above average teams and no top flight teams (so far) there could be so many teams that finish within a stones throw of .500 that I would be surprised if more than 2-3 HE teams make the NCAA's

The more pressing question to me right now is whether or not BU shows up Friday against Vermont with the BC game coming on Saturday. Parker said that, as of last Monday, they were looking past Harvard to Cornell (until he berated them at the end of practice).

I wonder if they'll keep the same focus and attitude through this week in practice and show up ready on Friday of their own accord, or if Parker will once again have to go all Bobby Knight on them again, or if that's a ploy a coach can use effectively in back-to-back weeks.

If they put together a solid effort against Vermont, I'll consider them as having turned a corner, and at that point, 12 HE wins down the stretch seems very, very plausible, because there is still a considerable amount of talent on this squad.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

We'd like to see Cornell take two from the Sioux. We clearly have to win our remaining ooc games ( rpi/ beanpotX2. 5-1-1 then)

we are what, 2-6-1 right Now in hea?

H/h with nu ( gotta win both)
3 with bc ( hope for 1-2-0)
2 here with umo (2-0-0)
3 with uvm (1-2-0)
1 left with the chiefs (lose)
3 with pc (sweep needed)
1 with Mack (need that w/o saying)
1 with uhn (need, but probably a loss)
2 with umass (split)

that is 11-7-0 to add to our current 2-6-1.

So 12-13-1 in conf + 5-1-0 ooc mean we need to get out of the first round on the road (which, ironically will probably mean beating a tuc and helping us out.

That would be now 19-14-1, which even if we lose the first game at the fleet would get in, I'd guess.

No 4th does not guarantee an NCAA spot by any means... but I think at most there will be 4 teams from Hockey East to get in... so at least finishing 4th, and finishing up strong OCC and perhaps making the HE championship game could possibly get us in.

In reality, I agree with Agganis that there could only be 3 Hockey East teams in this year.

Gotcha. Wasn't trying to jump down your throat or anything.;)

Haha... not at all! We have dug ourselves a bit of a hole here though. I'm sure the team would like a couple of the Hockey East games back at this point.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

maybe as soon as this thread ends, and the next begins, BU's fortunes will turn around.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

Here's my contribution to a new thread and better fortunes. This weekend...

4 pts: BU is back in the mix
3 pts: BU is 'ok' but needs to turn it up a notch
2 pts: Outlook Not So Good
1 pt: Look Out Below
0 pts: Enjoy being on the outside looking in...:(

Has there been a 'picture with the trophy' thing at Agganis yet this season? They did it a couple times with various Beanpots, but I'd love to get a few more with the NC trophy.... Maybe even donate $1 to the FoH or TRF and they let you pose with the trophy?

Saponari and Warsofsky are both on preliminary U.S. WJC roster.

The preliminary roster will participate in a three-day pre-tournament training camp Dec. 17-19 in Grand Forks, N.D. The training camp will be highlighted with an exhibition game against the University of North Dakota on Dec. 19. Following the camp, a reduced roster will be play the Czech Republic on Dec. 22 in Regina, Sask., in Team USA's final exhibition game. The final roster will be announced on December 23.

Event ends January 5, so we would only miss them for the UMass home game.

Nicastro, too, I think, or did a misread that? Any clarifications will bump us closer to having a new thread going into this weekend and hopefully a clean slate for the Terriers.

Yes, Nicastro is also on the list. The only other HE player on it is BC's Chris Kreider.
