Hockey is a physical game... Even in practice, you keep yer head up.

Gryba smash=good! ;)

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

How about the Gryba sit? I mean seriously, between the penalties and this, I'm pretty ticked off at him right about now.

unless the hit was intended to cause harm and/or in a retaliatory manner that wasn't consistent with normal physical play, then he should not sit. none of us were there so we shouldn't speculate. i'd have a difficult time believing gryba was intending to cause harm to alex in this case and i'd guess it was totally accidental.

Maybe Gryba, like most English-speaking Canadians, is still ****ed about the referendums.

We know how Parker feels about those hits to the head. Hopefully Benedetto et al were attending the practice and gave Gryba an appropriate 5 minute major.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

It wasn't a dirty hit at all. He clearly wasn't going for Chiasson's head. It was one of those plays where the guy jumps inside and, as a reaction, you make yourself taller and wider just to try and get a piece of him and not let him go around you. They just happened to intersect at the perfect time for Gryba's shoulder to catch Chiasson's chin. Parker said he was happy that it was a physical practice because that's how he wants practices to be. Definitely won't be any fallout in terms of discipline for Gryba, nor should there be.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

I agree with everyone about not sitting Gryba - it's just so frustrating to have the one bright spot to the season get ruined this way...

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

With Warsofsky out and the serious lack of offense, I doubt the team could afford to sit a veteran defenseman.

Seriously? I get a neg rep for this? Grow up. The team is what it is, and Gryba is not the only one taking stupid penalties. Being forced to miss a game for maybe going a bit harder than he should would be stupid.

these guys need to all see a sports psychologist and learn how to deal with adversity that is inherent in the sport. these games are continuous mental struggles. sthupid penalties, timid offensive play, confusion, no visible leadership. the only guys i saw playing with fire were the young kids in the final 10 minutes of the game

Who'd have thought that a headline like that would have even been possible? Looks like it could be something that's real, though...

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

The DFP live bloggers made a lot of the apparent 17 seconds of extra PP time Merrimack got through a tech glitch which lead to the 4th goal. The bloggers seemed to think that it could/would lead to the outcome of this game being officially challenged.

Has anyone heard about this/think it would actually happen?

I think it'd be kind of ridiculous if it did, but I am curious about how these things work.

Thanks!

well escobedo was allowed out of the box early to give rosen a break  .... i didn't bother to see how much time was left on his penalty though to figure what time one of the shatty/ccohen would be allowed out.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

The penalty you are referring to was at the 20:00 mark of the 2nd period, but did not start til the first BU penalty was over because it was already a 5x3 and thus could not begin til one of the other ones was over. Similar to when MC had to kill off two 5x3s.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

From the perspective inside the arena it was very hard to tell what was going on with any of the penalties (Mostly because of barely-competent or incompetent scoreboard managing). Though I guess you have to give them some kind of break, unless I'm mistaken BU and Mack were both at one time serving four penalties at the same time...

That's exactly how I felt while witnessing the frustration mount. Mental midgets. Even Millan was frustrated to the point he took a hack at an MC player in the 2nd. I mean, I've NEVER seen that from him. These guys need to learn how to harness that frustration, and make plays. You're down a few goals, ok. But get over it, quit acting like children and get to business.

I don't know what it is, but I want to attribute these poor performances to something missing in the locker room. Well, I guess it's obvious something's missing there...I was sitting behind our bench last night, and when mistakes were made, the bench was silent. No words said from Parker. No words said from the other coaches. No words from said from the "leaders." That cannot happen. Sure there were taps on the shoulders, taps to the helmets, but NO fire whatsoever on that bench (unless directed to benny and his crew). Silent benches lose games.
