Talked to Parker yesterday (Wednesday) a little bit about some Olympic related things. Posted the quotes on the blog (link in my signature).

Thanks, that's cool to read.

He sounds pretty adamant that he wouldn't coach if they were amateurs. Does he think he would be retired by then if it happens, or that they wouldn't consider him?

The way he said it, I could make a guess and say that he just wouldn't be interested in the extra work at this point, but as I said, our press conference was cut short by Parker's (and all our) displeasure at the goal being disallowed.

Just finished my preview, should be up late-tonight/tomorrow. Only interesting note not in there was that Parker mentioned he may keep Connolly at center even with Megan returning, which could mean more line reshuffling. If he decides to stick Megan back between his usual linemates, then Kevin Gilroy will stay in the lineup and center a line, probably the fourth.

Glass would still be in the lineup though, right? He played too well on Saturday to be back on the bench, especially considering you could take Gilroy, Courtnall or Santana out and it wouldn't hurt things.

Kilroy has looked invisible this season. I've been surprised by his inability to secure a regular spot in the lineup. I thought he would do so this season.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread III: From the Beanpot until the end...

Doing this mostly for myself just to help keeping things straight. Might as well do it out loud (ish) on here..

Zach Cohen - Nick Bonino - Alex Chiasson
Ross Gaudet - Chris Connolly - Vinny Saponari
Andrew Glass - Luke Popko - Joe Pereira
Justin Courtnall - Kevin Gilroy - Ryan Santana

^This was Sunday's lineups. So if Megan bumps Connolly from center, Gaudet gets dropped to the third line back with Pereira (probably), at which point one of Glass, Courtnall or Santana has to be bumped because Gilroy is the only center there.

If they slide Megan back in at center, I'd guess the fourth line is reunited from a couple weeks ago with Courtnall-Popko-Santana. At that point, I have a feeling he might reshuffle the top-3 lines to get Megan with somebody other than Pereira and Glass, who as energy guys would probably fit better with Bonino at center, or split up in some other combination. I guess, in the end, if it's Bonino, Connolly, Megan as the top-3 centers, Parker can reshuffle pretty much however he pleases.

There, done thinking aloud. I will be interested to see what he decides on.

These are the two most likely options as I see it:

Cohen-Bonino-Chiasson
Connolly-Megan-Saponari
Gaudet-Popko-Pereira
Glass-Gilroy-Santana

-or-

Cohen-Bonino-Chiasson
Gaudet-Connolly-Saponari
Glass-Megan-Pereira
Courtnall-Popko-Santana

I'm not sure he'd make as much of an effort to avoid a Glass-Megan-Pereira line. Glass and Pereira played well together last weekend, and Megan and Pereira have played well together in the past.

I know that JP coached the US team in the 1995-6 WJC's, but I'm embarassed to admit that I don't recall when he coached the US team in the World Championships (played in April.) Does anyone remember?

In that same vein, what are some of your expectations for how long Parker is going to keep coaching? I'm not saying I want him gone or anything, but it's not gonna be much longer before he finally retires.

I'd say maybe 4 or 5 years, max? I'm really on the outside looking in and he probably hasn't talked about it much, but does anybody else know anything?

Or perhaps we should just focus on Vermont...

At the risk of this being a stupid question, or one addressed elsewhere on this board...

Any chance of Zach Cohen going AHL and maybe a cup of coffee in the NHL- a la John McCarthy? I said this to a buddy jokingly at the beginning of the year, but Cohen sure does impress on a regular basis. Would be quite a turnaround from his status in the spring of 2008.

Parker has mentioned several times that Cohen has put himself in position to play at the next level. I definitely think he'll at least play in the AHL.

ZCohen has the toughness to be an awesome ECHL guy. He could end up dominating that league.

Not sure if he has the speed to make it in the AHL.

His size is a big asset for him on the next level. It'll help him get a shot in the A where maybe more accomplished players who are smaller haven't gotten the same chances. I think he'll probably be more of an ECHL type, because even though his skating is vastly improved from freshman and sophomore years, he's not the swiftest guy out there. I also think that the fact he isn't necessarily the most well-rounded player might be an issue on the next level.

None of this changes the fact that he's gone from a guy I was furious to see on a line sheet for the first two years to a guy I'm always glad to see hop over the boards the last two.

it's not a joke, and i said i didn't know, thus why i asked the question, a**clown. god forbid i ask a question that i knew i'd get the answer to.

Hey, show a little respect. It's Mr. A**clown to you. :D

Anything is possible for the single most improved player in one season in BU hockey history.:)

In a word, YES. Size and the ability to play a physical game (YIP) will get you there a lot quicker than small and fast (GERBE). Not to start a war here, but guys like Zach or Yip can play on lines 1-4, where the smaller player can't.

Can't say we really know for sure, but I think 4-5 years does sound about right. Seems to me like he'd like to continue until his health just won't let him. Guy still lives for hockey, evidenced by the fact that he got so excited about the USA-Canada game, and he still has a very competitive edge.

I think at the beginning of the year, he said something about giving BU and the fans two years notice before hanging up the whistle, but I could be remembering that wrong.

Fed League, you were there - do you recall that or am I just going crazy? I did just get back from seeing Shutter Island...

Yeah, but Yip is still a much better skater than Zach and is a much more well rounded player. I really like Zach but I just think his talent is more ECHL than AHL. He has turned into a solid player, but I don't look at him and see someone who's better or more versatile than a guy like Brian McConnell was at BU. The biggest difference between him and Mac is that Mac came in with huge expectations, so he's easier to view as a disappointment, while Cohen had no expectations so what he's done the last two years is just gravy.

Yeah, it was something like that. I don't remember if it was 2 years, but he definitely said something along the lines of giving people plenty of notice. At the very least, I'd imagine he'd announce it before the next season starts. I would think the purpose of that is so they can already have the next coach in place when the season ends and not have to search for one over the summer.
