Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread III: From the Beanpot until the end...

its understandable. i didnt know the poles story when i first started posting here, its an old one that you'd have to really dig up to find.

not exactly... it is usually brought up pretty much every monday when the poles come out

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread III: From the Beanpot until the end...

darn those out of conference wins. i cant believe those idiot pollsters count them

This season is almost like a Twilight Zone flashback to 07-08, except we do have a few OOC wins this time around. That's the difference.

Don't dignify the polls with sarcastic jabs, they deserve real ones. ;)

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread III: From the Beanpot until the end...

I will say, I find it funny that teams we are currently beating in HE are ahead in the polls (what a weird year). Also, 8 of the 10 HE teams received votes.

Edit: Okay, so we're not technically beating Umass, but we do have a game in hand.

Since the Polls don't mean squat, how about UVM is tied for 9th in the PWR, but 2 points away from not even making the hockey east playoffs as of right now (Merrimack is 2 points behind with a game in hand on 8th place UVM....)

It would be hilarious if they missed the playoffs but qualified for the NCAA tournament.

And the 'Mack owns the tiebreaker.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread III: From the Beanpot until the end...

Has a team ever missed a conference tournament but made the NCAAs?

I highly doubt it. No way it happened before the field expanded to 16, and since the field expanded to 16, HE is the only league that doesn't include every team in the conference tourney. I'm 99% sure no HE team has ever done it.

They key here is that according to Thiessen's Better NU is trying to be the first TUC to miss the conference tournament... and they seem to be failing. Vermont has set its goal much higher, they not only want to be a TUC but want to make the playoffs, and have a greater chance of success. The funny thing is, the way UVM is playing not being embarrased by someone because they don't play in the quarterfinals may be the only way they keep their pair wise up to make the tournament!

Was it Carter Camper who has an article written about him how he couldn't forget / get over losing the NC? Anybody know what article I'm talking about / have a link to it?

I know exactly what you're talking about, and yes it was Camper. Gimme a few minutes.

Edit: Here ya go.

I don't think that will happen. UVM high ranking is primarily due to their sparkling OOC record. For UVM to miss the Hockey East playoffs, they will have to continue losing quite a bit. The losses are mounting up and they could drop quickly.

My brother actually met his folks this year when they were in NH to go to the Miami-UNH games. Said they were incredibly nice, and that he didn't bring up the fact that he was in DC cheering for us in April.

I have to say, I'd be more than okay if, and I'm assuming it won't be against us, Miami got right back up this year and won it all.

Agreed. Usually I just root for whatever HE teams goes the furthest, but the combination of their hearts being ripped out last year, a lot of great players who are also great people by all accounts, a great coach and the whole Brendan Burke story makes it very easy for me to root for Miami. The only other team I'd probably root for (figuratively speaking - obviously I have no rooting interests ;) ) over Miami is UML, but it doesn't look like I'll have to worry about that.

I would be okay even if it were against us:

a.) I'm sure they'd love to beat us to come full circle just like we did finally beating Vermont

and

b.) we will have gotten somewhere out of this mostly miserable season!

Really? Wouldn't that require ill will? And the thing about Vermont was that it was that same season. They were the one team we had trouble with (save the slaughter in the Gutt).

More like exorcising the demons of their past in a big way. Slightly different scenario.

And also, Vermont was the team that ended our season in 07-08. That would be a similarity.

True. But I think that Miami doesn't need to beat us... they were sadly the victims of our win. Vermont was a thorn in our side. I just see it a bit differently.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread III: From the Beanpot until the end...

Then again, Miami might need to overcome Boston in general, considering that the city has killed it twice.

Twice? Didn't they lose to BC three years in a row? The final year against BC was in quick-strike comeback fashion though.
