Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread II: Still got a pulse, time for CPR

Two of those goals were definitely tipped by BU defenders. The second one took a huge skip up off Colby Cohen's stick, and though I didn't see the other, Parker said after the game it bounced off one of his own players.

First goal appeared to have been a save by Kieran then the rebound hit Gryba and went into the net.

Relax guys. Plenty of fun left in the season:

- A two game winning streak by the end of the night on Friday after a win over Merrimack and BC missing two DMen
- A Beanpot championship
- A subsequent slew of posts from "experts" proclaiming that "BU is about to make that late run they always make" despite not having done it in over a decade
- When that run fails to materialize, BU fans will be crunching numbers and arguing with each other that there may or may not be a 1 in a 2,000,000 chance that BU makes the NCAAs without winning Hockey East to which the rah rahs throw a parade and watch every box score in D1 religiously for a few days while the wah wahs and everyone else in the country laughs at them and they keep responding "there IS a chance, that's all I'm saying!"
- And while all this is happening, we get to keep an eye out for BU players getting hurt by being thrown under the bus by their coach.

I'm going to wait until the second Tuesday of February, traditionally known on USCHO as GroundDog Day, to see if Rhett sees his shadow or not and if it's going to be an early spring for the Terrier program.

Like I said, plenty of fun left.

I'm not sure what kind of run you're talking about, but BU went 15-2-2 in the second half of the regular season in 2005-06 and 15-1-3 last season. I would say both of those were pretty good runs in the last decade.

FYP :p

Carmine doesnt let facts get in the way of his idiocy. BU may blow this year regardless but BU for as long as I have been around (early 70's) tends to start slow and finish strong. So the post Beanpot swoon is pure fallacy, doesnt mean it always ends where they want to be but Feb-March is usually better then Nov-Dec-Jan. But thats Carmine you can put his hockey knowledge in a thimble.

First goal appeared to have been a save by Kieran then the rebound hit Gryba and went into the net.

Poor Gryba definitely tipped it in, but I don't think Millan ever touched it. It was a long slapper from out by the blue line that might even have been going wide but #2 redirected it.

By my count, the Terriers scored three times last night. Unfortunately, two of those were on the wrong net.

I'm not sure, but I think the puck may have actually hit Perriera also, up at the point. I think this explains why a) the puck was heading somewhat wide of the net and b) why Gryba seemed to make absolutely no attempt to avoid it.

There's now a Hobey Baker banner hanging up next to the national championship banners. Did I not see that at the last game or is it new?

It's new. Honestly, I'm finding the ongoing banner saga this season just as interesting as the actual season. It seems like every home game, something's different in the rafters. Every time I get up to the press box now, I look around to see what's different. I'm not sure there's a single banner that's in the same place it was to start the season.

ugh. down 1-2.

first goal was scored by h sedin from BEHIND the goal line. 2nd was a shortie breakaway undressing by burrows - forehand, backhand, upstairs.:(

i think JC may be playing his last game for the penguins tonight.:o and the worst part is they have a backup on a ATO one game contract out of the WHL.

Thought Grant played well. He faced a barrage though.

I also like Megan. He seems to get better every game.

Solid effort from the first and third lines all around.

As an aside has anyone ever seen the trick that Merrimack was pulling tonight? What I mean is that they would keep a forward at center ice forcing a BU defender to hang back with him.

The result was a lot of virtual 4-4 play. Interesting anyway.

Man. No score update thread; a game thread only started yesterday; and nothing on the season thread, save Jacques. What a development.

Does "BU: 3-1-0 in '10" perk anyone up?

When you put it like that it seems like it should...

But the PC loss is masking the 3-1 right now.

I only noticed it once in the 3rd. Was wondering if it was a strategy to keep C. Cohen and his shot out of the play. Then again, I also have to wonder if maybe Merrimack was thinking that Colby had two goals and needed the hat trick, so he might say "to hell with that guy skating around my blueline, I'm using my NHL Shot for a hat trick."

It puts things a little bit in perspective, but they need to win games like the PC one, no excuses. 2 points in a weekend of Merrimac and Providence isn't going to get it done.

3-1 to start January is a vast improvement over the first half of the season but losing to Providence is a setback when next weekend brings BC and NH. The team's loss to the Friars reduces its margin of error and makes getting 2 points very important next weekend.

3-3 after next weekend will not be the lift we needed to get back into the race for home ice but 4-2 would.
