Boston College Women's Hockey '25-'26: It's The Hope That Kills You

With all due respect @TonyTheTiger20, Courtney Kennedy has a better chance of hitting the Powerball lottery than landing the Minnesota job right now.

I heard today that the Gophers might be letting the Mens head coach Bob Motsko go as well.

So let me get this straight, Minnesota fires both the Mens (rumor) and Womens Hockey coaches in a span of 24 hours due primarily because of their respective teams "performance issues" and Blake James continues to sit on his rear end and watch BCWIH sink faster than the Titanic ?

Make it make sense

I think BC and Minnesota have a similarity in that for a long time they stuck primarily to the same geographic areas (not exclusively the backyard but the same programs from outside there). For a while it worked well, and then around the same time it stopped. BC hasn't altered that all too much. Minnesota did try to do that and I think that only made the fans angrier even though the results weren't much different.

Ohio State happened to Minnesota. And I'll be the first to connect that Colgate's rise coincides with BC's fall. Of course that will be hotly debated, but Fargo's first year at Colgate, Colgate had 5 wins. Fargo leaves and Colgate is falling. I noticed a Serdachny at UConn which is a sister of the one Fargo had at Colgate. A BC player transferred to UConn.
Is UConn the new Colgate?

I don't know; Chris MacKenzie has been there a long time for UConn to be called the "new" anybody. Didn't he start at UConn like a year after Fargo arrived at Colgate?
Yes, it looks like MacKenzie started one year afterward.

Interestingly Maya Serdachny is Danielle Serdachny's cousin -- so maybe not so close a relative, nevertheless, that it would be a question why not Colgate.

Additionally, UConn got a new rink in 2023 that seems to contribute to the feel of their women's program (as well as men's) having a surge (as they have made the tournament twice now).

Agreed on Ohio State. I don't think I'd go with Colgate's rise affecting BC; almost their entire roster is Canadian which has just never been our recruiting zone (so much so that back in my day we had a player from Canada and it was so remarkable that she was on the team that her nickname among the players was literally "Canada"). Northeastern is the more obvious answer but I think it's half that and half the decline of Massachusetts girls' hockey relative to, say, the Midwest. Only 7 of the USA U18 players this year were from MA which feels low.

I mean, pretty similar AD actions at the two schools with BC firing a basketball coach and non-renewing the other, Minnesota doing the same in hockey.

Mackenzie did get off to a slow start, but Hockey East was much a stronger conference when he started. UConn is the only collegiate program in the country to have three money making teams. (Women's Bball, Men's Bball and Football). I kind of think he has a snowball going downhill. it's just a thought, it could be off though.
