Boston College Women's Hockey 2010-2011: Schaus In Da Haus

Re: Boston College Women's Hockey 2010-2011: Schaus In Da Haus

Wow I wish I'd known. Nice job putting that on the schedule BC!

Nice to see them pick up a win. How good is Windsor?

If you are referring to the Windsor Lancers, they are a middle of the pack OUA team (CIS Canadian College Hockey, the Ontario League). That is roughly equivalent to a top end D3 or bottom end D1 program.

OnMAA, help me with my ignorance.....other than McGill, which other CIS schools could seriously compete in NCAA D-1?

Laurier Hawks, Alberta Panda's, Manitoba Bisons.

That is probably about it, although it will be interesting to see how the "godinos" do with Wick in the lineup this year.

It has been a few years since I last saw the Pandas, but I'd say that there is a considerable gap between Alberta and Manitoba.

You may want to hone up on recent data then.

Two years ago Manitoba beat out Alberta in the Western Final, after they were 1-2 all year in the league. In years prior to that it was always Alberta who dominated. Alberta won the west last year revenging their loss to the Bisons from a year earlier. They went on to reclaim the CIS nats title back from two time champ McGill in the Final. While I don't follow the west closely, heard that Manitoba has been recruiting well. They have been to the CIS championships at least 3 times in the last four years.

Laurier Dominates the OUA, McGill Dominates the Q, the Panda's Dominate the West most years. The Bisons are clearly the next best team over the last five years, and picked up several CIS medals in that span. They have been to the dance four times in the last six years.

Apologies to BC fans, but w/o Tony and Joe around all the time, this thread has been far too on topic. That said, I promise this will be my last post on this tangent.

Nah, I'm not that invested. I saw Alberta play SLU 5 years ago when the Saints were a perennial Frozen 4 team, and the Pandas were able to play with them. Not beat them, but contest the game throughout. Manitoba wasn't able to compete to the same extent yesterday against Minnesota in terms of 1-on-1 battles. It is possible that Manitoba was missing key players or worn down; Alberta may have regressed from when I saw them; or the NCAA could have advanced more than CIS over that time. Although Manitoba won a shootout tie from SCSU the day before, they were badly outshot by a Husky team that figures to be largely devoid of offense early on. The Bison's starting goalie did play very well early yesterday, so maybe she keeps them in a lot of games.

By most accounts the best real recruit this year in the CIS (discounting older players entering the fray) went to the Bisons. She might not have been with her team this weekend due to conflicts with the TC Senior camp out in Calgary. I'm sure that also hurt McGill this past weekend as they have several of their players in tha National Camp.

Re: Boston College Women's Hockey 2010-2011: Schaus In Da Haus

So, was that the only preseason game scheduled this year?

Re: Boston College Women's Hockey 2010-2011: Schaus In Da Haus

Does anyone have information on why Dru Burns and Corrine Boyles were the only ones not dressed in the game?

Re: Boston College Women's Hockey 2010-2011: Schaus In Da Haus

Last year, my several posts focused on the hardships BC encountered due to a rather young team and the absence of both Stack and Schaus to the Olympics. The end result was a disappointing record and early exit from the Hockey East playoffs. That was last year and no longer make that arguement. Seems many have BC rated highly this year and thus expectations for a more experienced and skilled team are in order. Don't have a precise number of wins that would differentiate between a positive or negative season, but it is about 20 and finishing no lower than 2nd in Hockey East regular season. Seems that every other year the Eagles play their way into the NCAA's so this is their time. Go Eagles.

This has the potential to be the best BCWH team we've ever had. They just need to play up to their potential, which, for the last 2 or 3 years, has really been the problem I think.

Re: Boston College Women's Hockey 2010-2011: Schaus In Da Haus

so is Burns redshirting too..that would be a huge disappointment and loss to the team
Are you the same person who said Burns would be "one of the best players in the country" last year?

Nothing against Dru - she's a good player - but, if she's redshirting, don't you think the coaches might have a good reason? Unless you think she's hurt, in which case, yes, that would be a big loss to the team.

Re: Boston College Women's Hockey 2010-2011: Schaus In Da Haus

I don't think that they would red shirt unless she was hurt. They would have no reason to.

Re: Boston College Women's Hockey 2010-2011: Schaus In Da Haus

Perhaps they're still not sure who's going to dress every game.
