Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

Semi-off topic question:

As a kid I loved the game Concentration (probably because I could always beat my sister) and I've always had in my head that I'd love to do a hockey team version of the game. I recently had some postcards printed and the extra thick stock and durable finish (combined w/ printing the images well) made me think about the possibility again.

If I were to do it (and for BC) there would be 32 different images (27 players from last year, 4 coaches & then probably a celebration shot) for a total of 64 cards (with team trophy shot on all the backs) sized 3x4. The issue is the cost. I can get a deep discount during the month of October, but I'd still have to sell sets at $24 each to break even. Obviously that's a lot more than you'd pay for a regular pack of cards. (Also wouldn't come with fancy packaging since a) I can't seem to find boxes the appropriate size & b) that'd just more to the cost. I think it is an acceptable image product as it will simply be small prints albeit 2-sided (they wouldn't be usable as playing cards).

The question is - would anyone be interested at that price? I'd have to order in sets of 10. Please feel free to email me your thoughts - melissa@hockeyphotography.com

Anyone going to the exhibition tomorrow?

I'll be at West Point so I'll have to miss it. Hard to believe 8 days until the puck drops on the season.

BTW might be time for someone more clever than I to make a season thread.

FYI, if you need a hockey fix, Army is having their Black and Gold scrimmage approximately 1 hour after the football game ends, around 4 pm.

I hopefully will be able to check it out for a little while depending on what the whole family wants to do. Never easy road-tripping with a 6-month old.

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

Any chance NESN picks up some early Hockey East games? Some time slots were alloted to the Bruins and they have to fill them with something.

I'll be travelling from Fredericton with another volunteer to cover the game for UNB. Does that count?

:)

In a nutshell, the defending AUS conference champ and national semi-finalist UNB Varsity Reds are in a bit of a rebuild/retool mode. Nine guys are gone from last years team; replaced by three rookies and two senior-year transfers (you're allowed to do it in CIS under certain circumstances). Next season the AUS conference has mandated a ridiculous (in my opinion) roster cap of 21 skaters and unlimited goalies, with apparently no consideration for injured reserve. This has certainly affected the quantity of recruits UNB added this year, and has forced the team to convert a veteran forward into a defenceman this year.

If you haven't seen UNB before, they're not your typical CIS team. They tend to play a puck-possession, puck-pursuit game. They never trap. Sometimes they'll chip and chase to try to get around a trap, but the trap is sometimes still their nemesis in the CIS (you'd think they'd figure it out by now). By CIS standards they are a very quick team; by NCAA standards that would make them an average speed team. They've got some big forwards, who sometimes drive the net, but they don't normally run you over (one reason the big guys are at UNB and not playing pro hockey). Their energy line will do some good board work. They have a fairly mobile defence who like to jump up in the attack. This does sometimes lead to glorious odd-man rushes for their opponents and hairy moments for UNB goalies. Fun to watch anyways.

Don't forget tonight (Friday) it is BC/BU at Conte. BC women are ranked third in the nation while BU is ranked sixth. Should be a great game plus it is FREE, parking is FREE and there are no concessions so you can bring in whatever you like. Bring the family. Check out display changes - men's should have along w/ Eagle of the Year - when the concourse is a lot more open. BU will have a lot of fans and their band apparently is even making the trip so if you care about the rivalry at all, you'll be there tonight at 7 pm (fyi, while you can sit anywhere at women's games fans typically sit on their team bench's side).

I'm not in the area but wouldn't go even if I was. I wish them the best and follow from afar throughout the year, but women's hockey just doesn't do much for me. Guess I don't care about the rivalry! ;)

Happy to say I was able to get up to the BC/UNB games a few years back. Brought my trumpet.

Fredericton is an awesome town and you guys had some of the nicest fans I've encountered.

Hope you enjoy the trip down to Boston.

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

Great to see the men's team in attendance for the women's opener tonight.

I think I remember that trumpet ... not sure to be honest as I was doing TV and radio and the headphones tend to block out a lot of the crowd noise.

Fredericton fans are pretty tame, especially by NCAA standards. Of course being Canadian, salty chants aimed at opposing teams are actively discouraged. Fair play and all that. But yes, Fredericton is a nice quiet, safe place to live (founded by "United Empire Loyalists", British, who left New England after that little misunderstanding in 1776).

Looking forward to tomorrow's game. First time visit to BC's rink for both of us. Holed up in the Motel 6 in Bangor watching my man Bill Maher right now.

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

Can you watch the exhibition game on the BC homepage?

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

Is Evan Richardson not at BC until next year?

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

i'm sure this is a no as BC is pathetic in things like this

Also curious about this...anyone know?

you can watch regular season games but not for free.....

Anyone know if the BC site (or any other site) streams audio regularly for hockey?

BC site streams audio , not sure about this exh game though but highly doubtful

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

Thanks. I figured they wouldn't have it for this game but would really like to listen to some games this year.

BC's definitely sucked in the past on things like that.
