Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

Curious to see what people think was the most enjoyable BC championship to attend for those that have attended all or many of the FFs that BC has won. This would include all aspects of the trip, not just the games. Even though I spent one day in Tampa (thanks to the wife letting me go, and by "letting" I mean she had no **** choice), I really think it's right up there at the top.

1. Tampa - weather weather weather, great championship game + Gaudreau goal, nice BC contingent in Tampa as well. Went down for 24 hours to see the title game. This might have been the most glorious 24 hours of my life. No wife, no kids, great weather, BC championship.

2. Denver - great city, Rocky Mtn National Park, Rockies game, ripped the Sue a new bunghole in the semis, beat the Children of the Corn in title game.

3. Albany - tough to remember this far away now. Kolanos goal made it all worth it. Pretty good semi game to watch vs. Michigan.

4. Detroit - Two blowouts and the fact that this was in Detroit on a gd football field put this in last place by default. Still was a better FF to attend than I expected it to be. I didn't even hear any gunshots.

Only word that comes to mind for you is loser.

Loser or realist? MWade - let me know if I need to send you some more pixie dust.

It's sad that this kid made a series of bad decisions that ultimately landed him in the ECHL.

I'm all for pursuing your dream, but as my original post indictaed, the ECHL is not a solid path to the promiseland.

I think the outcome could have been much different - more great years at BC, a degree in hand if hockey didn't work out, etc.

Series of bad decisions? And where are you getting your information from? Do you criticize every player that signs with an ECHL team? There has to be some reason you decided to randomly pick on Shea. Did he pick BC over Harvard or something? I also don't understand what you mean by more great years at BC...his eligibility is up. Please don't tell me you think he left early...

Did he not get his degree or something? You sound like hokydad.

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

Found the following from back when Shea committed to BC in September 2006:

"A good student, Shea also had interest in Harvard, but wouldn’t have been able to get a read from their admissions department for another year."

Why does everyone on this board come down on people like they are on a witchhunt when they go against the grain? "Loser"? Are we a bunch of petulant 4th graders?

I could care less if someone picked BC over Harvard. Chris Kreider did and I think he made a great choice....just look where he is now? That kid has a great head on his shoulders from everyone I have talked to and have read. He left BC at the right time, having done his homework (just like he did when he picked BC over Harvard)

There are Harvard kids in the ECHL - but those kids stayed at Harvard, got their degree, and will be ok when hockey doesn't work out (For most in the ECHL, hockey doesn't work out as a career track).

Speaking of eligibility, do you guys think Shea made a good decision to go to MJ?

First of all, you aren't the authority on "everyone" on this board. I don't care if you go against the grain, I'm just trying to get to the bottom of it. I didn't call you a loser either. After reading the last sentence of your post, it's clear to me that you confused Edwin Shea with Brandon Shea. Dear Lord...at least have your facts in order.

So did Edwin Shea, whom the article is about... 4 years at BC.
Like JD said, you must be confusing the article with Brandon Shea?

My bad. I was referring to Brandon Shea. Apologies for the mistake and I wish him well!

Let's see, my post of the article said Edwin Shea, not just Shea and the announcement included the fact that he just won the national championship with BC. So how exactly do you get confused? Seems odd you are sooooo distressed by someone not playing for BC, but don't recognize the name of someone who played well for the team for four just concluded years.

And, no, I wouldn't like the gratuitous dis if directed at Brandon as I don't understand why some people seem to get off on insulting others for no reason so I stand by my reputation comment calling you pathetic & jealous as I can think of no other reason for you to harbor such ill will towards a just turned 17 year old that I assume is a personal stranger to you that you can't see the name Edwin and are in such a rush to insult that you can't be bothered to read the link.

(I don't know 'bothman' or Brandon, but am a fan of Edwin Shea.)

Such complete and utter destruction.

Awesome.

We don't always see eye to eye, Melissa, but I think bothman deserved that...

He'ss le out of hockey in what, 2-3 yrs? The only word that comes to mind is "sad"

Tough crowd... but I knew that. :D

These are bothmans first two posts and it seems he thought the article was about Brandon, not Edwin. He really only states that he thinks (Brandon's) situation is sad. BUT... good for you sticking up for one of ours, folks! ;) :D

bothman... apology accepted by this BC fan, but you better be more careful next time. ;)

I almost put them in the exact same order, but then I thought back to Albany.

1. Tampa - was awesome! My wife and I spent a week with friends in the great weather, saw some terrific hockey and witnessed another BC National Championship. :) Had a great week. I would go to another FF in Tampa regardless if BC is there.

2. Albany - the overall experience in Tampa was better, but the games and my emotions in Albany were incredible. Brian Gionta was, and still is, the most exciting college hockey player I've ever seen play, so this was his last chance to win the big one. I became a season ticket holder his freshman year and followed that group through the heartache of being so close for 3 years. I sat on the edge of my seat that entire game against UND like everyone on that team was my own son. When they won it, I was so happy for them... tears of joy ran down my face.

3. Denver - Great time, great food and the great Gerbe Show. :)

4. Detroit - Didn't go. Gave my tix to BC students because I didn't want to sit in bad seats, in a football stadium, to see a hockey game on crappy ice. I don't regret the decision... if the NCAA is stupid enough to do it again I still won't go.

So... I have seen 3 of BC's 5 championships live and they all are very memorable to me (even Detroit, which I saw on TV). :)
