Boston College: It's Trophy Time

Re: Boston College: It's Trophy Time

ND lost a crap ton of seniors, no?

They lost six (including a backup goalie)...Not an expert on them but the other five are all excellent players that left in Herr, DiPauli, Andy Ryan, Fogarty, and Lucia.

Peterson was a stud between the pipes and Bjork was solid.

We will see.

Re: Boston College: It's Trophy Time

what are your guys expectations then with this list below?

obviously (yes?) 20 wins?
competing for a hea title? or just home ice/bye?
ncaa birth?
ncaa championship?

none of the above:(:o

I see some folks are sandbagging for us

what do you mean?:p

are we at the point with und leaving there will be a mix of bc, umlol, pc & bu in some order in the top 4 for the foreseeable future? is/will nu be able to break through and finish up there every so often (or do they replace one of the 4?).

sure seems like umo, uhm, uvm, uma, mc & uconn are stuck in the rear except for a special lightning in a bottle season once every leap year.

HEA is now and will be for the foreseeable future , a one trick pony.:p.............or until B's take Quinn

Re: Boston College: It's Trophy Time

Also Zach Sanford.

To answer Mookie's question, I believe BC should finish 3 or 4 in Hockey East. They will be on the bubble of the NCAA tournament, heading into the Hockey East tournament. If there aren't too many upsets in conference tournaments throughout the country, they make the NCAA tournament. They can take care of business on their own by making it to the Hockey East final.

I forgot all about Zack and hope he can have a breakout year. It will be needed with the losses at forward. I thought he played very well last year and his experience and leadership is needed this coming season.

Sky is the limit for him. 39 points is nothing to sneeze at and is a fine season. Getting him in the weight room and going into Tuch-like beast mode and now we're talking 50 pts and a few more goals. He's still a setup guy I think at the end of the day. He's a huge swing guy for this team this season, if he can have a big year the team may exceed expectations if not then meet or fall short of expectations. Not sure what the expectations really are at this point realistically.

Also excited to see Cangelosi build on what I thought was an unbelievable season last year. He just did it all.

They do bring back their top 4 scorers I believe. Need to have a nice spread out lineup to compete this year I think.

Re: Boston College: It's Trophy Time

Exactly. Most teams, certainly most of the other top half teams, cannot say that. BC has lost some goals due to early departures but very little to graduation compared to BU and PC.

After doing a quick calculation:

Returning goals by team:

BC: 94
UML: 84
ND: 67
BU: 56
PC: 49

So let's not write off BC's offense yet as they are bringing back a lot of strength. BC should be HEA preseason #1 until they get knocked off.

Re: Boston College: It's Trophy Time

Just out of curiousity, where do Northeastern's 106 returning goals fit on that list?
That's a very good question! Perhaps the modest survey only included teams who finished in the top five during the regular season. Perhaps in Chestnut Hill 12/2 = 5. The Huskies finished sixth and were excluded.;)

Nick is spot on about Sanford. He's already a terrific force and should be a dominator before he finishes at BC.

Anyone know if Scott Savage was invited to any NHL development camps this past weekend? Saw him at Logan yesterday with equipment and sticks.

Re: Boston College: It's Trophy Time

For once, NU actually has expectations. Let's see how that goes.

Re: Boston College: It's Trophy Time

Does Chris Heisenberg have a 2017 spreadsheet out? I see he hasn't updated the 2016 one in a bit.

As long as Nate Leaman is coaching Providence and Norm Bazin is at Lowell, both teams should be very competitive. Yes, I agree up near the top of Hockey East with BC and BU.

Re: Boston College: It's Trophy Time

Providence and lowell also lost a lot i believe. The league should be wide open. Hard for me to place actual expectations on this team. I do think they will still score a lot of goals though.

I hate to do this, but I disagree with you, J.D.-- I do not think this year's BC team will score a lot of goals. I would break up the top four forwards into two pairs-- Colin White with Ryan Fitzgerald; and Austin Cangelosi with Zach Sanford. Unless at least two of David Cotton, Chris Calnan, Matthew Gaudreau and Graham McPhee really step up, I don't see this team scoring much. Some of that will depend on who is put on a line with the pairs I mentioned. I hope I'm wrong.
