Boston College Hockey, Part II

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

It was a really, really tight game - not a lot of room to move out there. Lowell makes very few mistakes and they did a very good job of slowing down our breakout for the entire game. Whenever it looked like BC would be able to sneak around the D for an odd-man rush, one of the D-men was able to break it up. And when they did get clear shots off, Hutton came up big.

It wasn't the most aesthetically pleasing game to watch (pretty boring and a very quiet crowd), but it's really good to see them pull out the W.

Yes, undoubtedly not the most aesthetically pleasing game to watch.
I think everyone's being a bit kind with their description of the game, as I thought BC was basically sloppy with their passing, and slow to get to the puck way too often. Did Lowell change their approach somehow since last night's victory? I don't know, but BC looked WAY sharper last night and deserved that one much more than tonight. Basically the puck just didn't go our way last night - we were on their doorstep numerous times but just couldn't bury it in that nice effort. I don't know what changed, but the aforementioned tendencies BC showed tonight had them playing on their heels for big spells - never the case in Friday's loss. Anyway, I'll take the 2 point W and am thrilled we pulled this off under the circumstances. A sweep this weekend would have been brutal.

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

With the way UML has played BC, you can't be too disappointed with a split for the weekend. Gutsy win tonight, nice to see Kreider score a couple big goals lately, I think he's the type to feed off of that...

Also great to see Jerry have the confidence to play Milner when absolutely needing 2 points.

Hopefully the weekend sends a message on how tough league points are this time of year. It's a young team, so easy to get ahead of yourself without any experience of fighting for meaningful trophies.

Pass the bong over here. Seriously, no offense, but watching this team for several months, Samuelsson is not even close to the 2nd best Dman. Wey looks better by a little bit. Cross is far superior. Dumoulin is in another stratosphere. It's debatable for the top player, but Dumoulin looked fantastic again tonight, brilliant pinch on the GWG. Samuelsson struggled at times again. Sneep dominates when he is on, but when he isn't it is ugly. Sneep did pretty well tonight.

So Samuelsson is probably BC's 5th best Dman. Maybe 4th if you put him over Wey, which is iffy at best.

Is it true, was Ulfie in the stands tonight?

High Gang!

I think it may not be fair to rank Cross and Wey right now against peers as one is three games back from a 3 week layoff(Cross) and the other has be out for approximately 6 weeks(Wey) and is currently playing with a cast on his right hand which seriously limits what he can do with the puck! All in I think the crew with continue to get better as the season rolls into HE tournament. I suspect Wey and Samuelsson will get heavy defensive play in our end while Cross will be utilized more on offensive end. Dumoulin and Sneep will anchor the group logging maximum minutes each and every game.

They are going to be very good down the stretch! Goals against will begin downward trend from here on out. Offensive group out put will rise again.

I agree with all the UML is tough to watch, but they do what they have to do to be competitive with BC. They have played their game in all match ups against BC this year.:)

for some reason this made me think of this Family Guy bit.

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

That was one great ending last night. Great to see Kreider really making an impact lately.

Lowell is a tough team. Excellent goaltending and solid, solid defense. I'd be find with BC not seeing them again this year. They're a tough matchup.

For those BC fans who want to go to Matthews and haven't gotten tickets yet: the website for the NU box office says that the game is sold out. Your best bet is the BC ticket office (before they send them back!).

I don't know if they are open on Monday; call first.

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

Nice to see some late heroics. Don't get that too often at Conte.
I can't remember the last time I personally saw an overtime or last-minute win in Conte.

That's rough. Hopefully we'll have a reasonable BC contingent at the game.

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

I do believe the last time BC scored a game-tying or game-winning goal in the final three minutes at Conte was January 27, 2007 - a Brian Boyle game winner in the last minute against Lowell.

Given the recent traveling us BC students have done, I'm hopeful that we can get a decent crowd to Matthews on Friday. It would be nice to take away some of the advantage the Doghouse brings to NU

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

Rumor has it Price will still be out on Friday. Here's hoping that rumor is wrong. He took a real stinger in Lowell - Im assuming that's what's caused the injury.

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

BC also scored a late game-tying goal and an OT winner vs. team
elephant walk in the 2006 quarterfinals.

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

Marty Reasoner scored a game winner with under a minute left, vs PC in HE quarterfinals in, IIRC, 1999.

1998 I think. Reasoner and Gionta on a line just wasn't even fair. What a team and run they had after blowing that game vs. Harvard in the Beanpot. They never lost another game until the title game vs. Michigan.

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

the last overtime win at conte was 10/13/2006 vs Team USA but that was an exhibition game. Prior to that, BC beat vermont on 3/9/2006 in the HE playoffs. The last regular season overtime win was 12/10/2004 vs NU

going back to 98-99 season BC is 6-5-17 in OT at home, 9-11-22 in OT on the road, and 12-7-3 in OT at neutral sites.

Home goal scorers were 99 orpik (uma), 03 collins (mc), 05 s gionta (uma), 05 spina (NU), 06 Harrold (uvm), 07 ferriero (USA).

Away goal scorers were 01 Kobasew (HU), 02 guiliano (uma), 02 shannon (uma), 04 havern (PC), 06 boyle (uml), 07 rooney (maine), 09 bradford (mc), 09 almeida (dart), 09 price (pc)

neutral site scorers were 99 gionta (osu), 99 beufielle (unh), 00 farkas (msu), 01 kolanos (und), 04 murphy (bu), 04 b eaves (mich), 05 collins (scsu), 05 alberts (maine), 08 gerbe (bu), 08 petrecki (HU), 08 ferriero (UNH), 08 whitney (miami).

funfact: NU is 3 of our 5 home OT losses with the others coming to BU 2010 and UNH 2003
