Boston College Hockey, Part II

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

Y

UMass averages more than 5,200 fans/game and drew more than 6,400 against Vermont two weeks ago. Don't flatter yourself.

They can't help it, they're BC fans.

Hey Tiny and SuperJoe, did you catch that...the use of the word they're  You guys are rubbing off on me. :D

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

The crowd is one of the loudest you'll get at a college hockey game but very crude. Their chants aren't witty or original just vulgar and they know very little about hockey. By far the least knowledgable fans I've ever been around. No one else even comes close. They're like a bunch of Mite 3 parents.:(

I'll give you that. Although I'd argue the least knowledgable point, only because it's far more apparent when there's thousands of students. Of the schools that draw 2-4,000 students/game, yea, I'd say they could be the least knowledgable.

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

BC also has 3-5 games played while students are gone and they are not included in student ticket packages. Thanksgiving break, the tail end of Christmas break, and spring break (sometimes including the QFs hosted at BC, also something UMass isn't very familiar with). The difference is that BC packs the house for those games (excluding the QFs, not that it matters) with very good bulk sales to youth hockey teams. I take it UMass does not. Boo hoo.

Now get back to delivering pizzas.

Congratulations in successfully not refuting my point.

My point: UMass draws smaller crowds when students are gone.
Your point: BC draws good crowds when students are gone by essentially giving tickets away.

I suppose reading comprehension wasn't one of the electives over there. Oh, and great delivery comment. Original. I've had a handful of BC kids work for me. Once again, don't flatter yourself. They're nothing special.

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

reading comprehension is assumed at real colleges. is just a class at zoomass or do they offer it as a major as well?

My point: Stop making excuses (BC obviously is doing something well if they are popular games and getting some revenue from ticket sales with otherwise empty seats, not to mention concessions on the extra 3-4K of people they bring in. But yea, they're "essentially giving away tickets". Sure.). Reading comprehension!

ps - congrats on becoming manager at Domino's. Big time! Luckily reading comprehension isn't required over there, huh?

Haha, so you're basically saying there are BC grads working at Domino's, although they aren't even good enough to be manager. GREAT comeback :D

And once again, reading comprehension. I NEVER made excuses as to why the attendance was low, I was explaining why the discrepancy between the two numbers SteveF came up with was so high. Something, and here we go again, you never actually refuted.

I NEVER made excuses as to why the attendance was low

D UMass had one of the longest winter breaks known to man (finally changed this year) and having 4-5 games with the entire student body gone tends to skew the numbers quite a bit.

Nope.

Also, you discount BC's attendance during break games because they give out a bunch of tickets for free, but at UMass, tickets are free to students for every game. UMass has a massive student body that can show up and get tickets for any game they want for free. BC's much smaller student body needs to buy season tickets at the start of the season that cost $120.

UMass does it right in this instance and BC swings and misses. But that doesn't change the fact that you're wrong on this one. UMass's average attendance is 62% of capacity; it'll be 100% on Saturday. While that's not double, it's pretty close.

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

You're right, it couldn't possibly be because the two teams are vying for the #2 spot in Hockey East.

UMass averages more than 5,200 fans/game and drew more than 6,400 against Vermont two weeks ago. Don't flatter yourself.

from your own web site.......3 of your top 5 largest crowds are vs BC and this is another of those 8k promos you guys have..........vs BC, i think that's very flattering

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

Very big game tomorrow night out at Amherst.
I'm not too keen on going out there to face off against a pretty **** good team after having what amounted to drill & shooting practice against Providence and Harvard. This is a pivotal game for BC - for HE's standings and also to feel good again about beating someone real. They need this one as a steppingstone to get some momentum going into the final month of the season. I mean with the exception of their 6-1 thrashing of Maine on Jan. 15th they really haven't had a good, solid win against a good team since they were at BU Dec. 5th. They need to step it up tomorrow night and bring their best game for all 3 periods this time. It's essential they build on something right now in a game that very much counts in the standings and for so much more as well.
Absolutely agree. While smacking around PC and H are fun to watch, they've got to get some quality wins starting now.
Time to step it up, or start polishing the golf clubs.

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

Non hockey question for current BC students (or anyone else that might know) - who do you contact for campus tours? Do they give tours on a weekend? What about on a holiday (like President's Day)?

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

BC.edu/sap

no Saturday tours usually but they often have them on holidays.

While it will be nice to see them compete against a good team, if BC didn't blow out PC and Harvard, you all would be posting about how they should be burying teams they should beat. When they do bury teams they should, you all discredit the effort, saying they haven't beat anyone good. Funny.

Just continue the offensive production and the compete level. Umass is a strong team, but BC looks like they have something going this year. A big league win tonight on the road before Monday's showdown would be huge.
