Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

and one more thing, kudos as usual to the NU students who were loud and spirited and out numbered BC students.............in Conte. Really, a pathetic show by our student body. Get with it, the best show on campus is not your basketball team playing against our "rivals" in the ACC...... it's your hockey team.pardon me while i vent

??

There were like 50 of them. And they were pretty freakin quiet all night. Probably because their team was getting blitzed right out of the freakin buildling. Didn't think they were louder or outnumbered BC students. Weak showing today for the student's but at 3 on a Sunday not shocking. The students have been great this year.

We got more students out for the game AT Northeastern on Friday. The scheduling was just bad. Sunday afternoon... everyone I talked to said they had too much work to do for classes next week or had tests etc. I know my professors personally were piling on the week before break. I guess classes aren't really that important for the students at NU :)
The players responded well and muzzled the mini "dog pound/dog house." by the second period, the NU crowd wasn't really that active, and they all left before the game was even over. all that being said, it is very frustrating that more students didn't show up. considering we have half as many students as NU and three sports as opposed to one, it will be tough to muster as many students for our home games as they do, but that being said we should NOT be outnumbered at home. i think the athletic department should start giving students free tickets like at NU. i doubt they are making that much money off the students anyway.

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

It's worth noting that the section of NU fans were approached by a police officer and several folks from the security at Conte with about 3 minutes to go. I don't know if they were making the guy in the spandex suit leave or what, but as he left the entire dogcrappound section also decided they had had enough. It turned out to be wise as they didn't have to suffer through the misery of seeing Hayes score in the last minute.

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

i'm glad at least there is a pulse out there but i do not agree that the BC students, what of them there were, were more vocal, sorry, just my opinion, and especially given that NU had NOTHING to cheer about all game yet WERE more vocal, which makes it even more puzzling.........the back of one goal was almost void of BC students and the other end was at most half full, so, i guess we agree to disagree but it's good to get some dialog going of which, there was none on a BC thread for over 24 hours, so, i repeat, get with it students and support the crown jewel of the athletic program, this hockey team

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

Congrats on the win BC. That was as dominant a performance i've seen (incredible passing & team speed), in a while. All around superb effort. G'luck

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

Don't forget that the NU fans had better seats and were in a position to be more audible than we were. Being behind the glass (and split up) SUCKS.

As someone who really respects the NU fanbase, I thought they were just 'meh' today. What did they have , 80, 90 people? I was expecting 150-200 to come after seeing all of us go there on Friday.

As for the game, wow, what can you say? Great performance. It seems like whenever the team really needs a win, they step up and find another gear. That bodes well for March and (hopefully) April (knock on wood).

Im glad to see that some NU fans are respectful and classy. As I was walking back to my dorm, two cars filled with NU students were honking their horns yelling "this place sucks" as they sped through campus and out of BC as quickly as possible. it was a little puzzling/ridiculous considering they had just lost 7-1. in that situation, the sensible thing to do would be to just leave respectfully, especially after getting so thoroughly beaten. and i wont even start an argument about which school is better, but BC is a pretty awesome place ;)

good luck to you as well. there is always room for opposing fans who show respect when they are in a visitor's arena. "Go NU"? Thumbs up. "This place sucks" while speeding through a crowd of people walking away from a game which your team just lost 7-1? Thumbs down. It just seemed a little bitter :)

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

In the good old days, circa 1999, BC students would have packed the place for a Sunday afternoon game. The too much work argument doesn't fly here. A home college hockey game takes 2.5 hours out of your day. Give me a break. I know there are loyal, die hard student fans, but in general, the lack of support is extremely disheartening.

Obviously, I think 7-1 had a lot to do with this. Also, we're at our best when we're responding to chants and like you said we could barely hear you through the glass and the other end behind the net couldn't muster much more than "Lets Go Eagles".

As for the number of NU fans I think it was the same reasoning the BC kids gave-lots of schoolwork with midterms coming up. Also, from a pessimistic NU fans perspective, I was not expecting much out of this game. We got the big win on Friday and we knew BC would come back with their best effort today. That doesn't excuse NU kids not coming, I just think they could see the storm brewing.

It might not "fly" with you, but I'm telling you, that's why Sunday games have terrible turnout (Hockey or basketball). Generally speaking the average student after a weekend of going out wakes up in the afternoon on Sunday, gets over the hangover, then studies from about 3 PM until bedtime. Sunday is the most packed night at O'Neill. That's the nature of the beast at a school like BC. I'm not saying it's good, that's just kind of how it is.

Friday night hockey has become a bit of a tradition; those games have been getting strong turnout even against weaker opponents.

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

hey guys---loyal and old BC fan here that "lurks" the board here to read the entertaining banter. Im a little new with using the computer to I apologize ahead of time but Does anyone know of any good sites out there to get coverage of the team? I know BC's official website has some coverage but I was looking for a fan site or maybe even a professional one--- I imagine not since the Globe and Herald barely cover the team but worth a try.

I don't think you're going to get much better than USCHO. Eagle Action is okay (EagleAction.com) but it's a message board just like this one. I don't know of any sites that aren't message boards where you'd get any good info on the team.

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

EagleAction.com has a pretty good beat writer covering the team, although you need to subscribe ($10/mo) to read most of the stories. While they provide good coverage, most of the information is readily available on here within a few hours of it being posted on any pay sites.

InsideCollegeHockey.com is the best place to read national college hockey coverage (sorry USCHO), and their writers seem to like BC and write about them a lot.
