Well, first things first, the refereeing was truly awful. The boarding call on Lyles was bad. The boarding call on Atkinson was worse. The call on Gibbons at the end of the game, in that situation, with everything the refs had let go in the third, was worst of all. Atrocious.
Secondly, maybe we should pass the hat around to raise money to buy a hyperbaric chamber to speed Cross and Wey's healing. Good gravy! Lyles is not good enough to compete at this level. Alber looks like the walk-on he is. Sneep was terrible tonight. Shea was even worse. Man, it could be a long three to four weeks until we get Cross and Shea back.

I agree on all counts. I really disliked that call on Atkinson for boarding there in the 1st. Simple body check near the boards. Baffling.
Don't mind the call given the situation at the end because it was a slash and a stupid penalty but the no call on that blatant high stick with 3 or 4 minutes left. WOW!
Oh well, BC lost to BU. What else is new?

Kreider has finally impressed me. His first goal was all hands. Pulled the puck back softly from Milan and then put it home. Sweet.
Second goal was set up by him SKATING THROUGH HIS FIRST HOCKEY EAST CHECK. A week ago, that check pinned him to the boards and stopped him in his tracks. Tonight he skated through it and scored from behind the goal line.
But I'm more impressed with him getting through the check... been waiting for that.
But don't get me wrong... I'm not overly impressed. He can do much better. Patience grasshopper, patience.
Milner is a very good goaltender. In time, he is going to be a very, very good goaltender.
Despite some costly defensive breakdowns, I liked how our team played tonight. BU played very well and we played right along with them, and better at times. They were dishing out some poundings and we dished it right back. We were short some key players and guys sucked it up and worked their butts off.
We'll win more than we lose if we continue playing like we did tonight.

There were way too many defensive breakdowns. Other than Samuelson, all them were bad tonight. There is no excuse to be walked around and dangled at the blue line. They weren't tough on the puck, they let mediocre BU forwards walk around them, and the decision making at the offensive blue line was questionable. I know defense is a 5 man effort, but the Dmen stood out as being bad tonight. It wasn't a problem of forwards rotating to help, it was them not playing the body and getting danced around.
The forwards are good and will continue to be good. If the defense tightens up, this team can win. The forwards are 2 goals better than BU, but when the D plays that bad, these two teams are evenly matched.
Refereeing is part of the game. I do agree that it was a marginal call and a very gutsy one to make with less than a minute left in a tie game. Heartbreaking to lose being a man down in overtime, due to a very borderline call, but BC shouldn't have been in that position to begin with.

I went the Full Heinsohn last night and had to stay off the boards

Some of the previous penalties complained about I thought were legit calls. The boarding on Lyles - that was pretty obvious boarding. BC took a bunch of dumb penalties and took themselves out of the game in the second period.
But the penalty at the end of the game... that was freaking brutal. Absolutely brutal. No excuse. To call that in the last minute of a tied rivalry game, after letting Colby Cohen get away with mauling a guy in the faceoff dot with three minutes left.... terrible.
I still think Muse should've played last night, but Milner did well.
Need to get the two points tonight.

Pssst. 1) you were playing BU, they get all the calls at the end of the game. Same thing happened in the first BU/UML game this year. 2) Tom Quinn was the referee. He is just horrendous.

I'd never heard of Quinn before, but needless to say I'll never forget his name now.
Funny a UML fan should chime in - I was just showing some friends the disallowed goal video from last year, so that I could demonstrate the history of ineptitude of Hockey East refs. Effin' brutal.
I do think (hope?) that UML is going to be facing one angry BC team tonight. Let's hope they channel that into goals and clean hits instead of penalties.

The Lyles penalty was absolutely a penalty and was probably one of the dumbest penalties I've ever seen. The guy was a yard and a half off the boards and Lyles goes in there stickless and just throws him into the boards. Textbook boarding if there ever was one.
As for the end of the game, I'm still livid. The non-call on the hooking at the faceoff dot was inexcusable. It was even worse when I saw the replay on the jumbotron.
The last penalty was unbelievable. Comepletely ridiculous. The BC player tapped his stick at his legs and he flopped like his skates suddenly hit concrete. The guy jumped straight up in the air for Christ's sake!!!!!!
I'm tired out outplaying teams and feeling robbed at the end. But whatever. This is a typical BC January swoon if there ever was one. If anything we should be encouraged that York feels confident enough in the team to do our yearly rope-a-dope again.
