Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

Root hard for your team but dont root against another team, thats a losers mentality. Revel in your own success not the misfortunes of others, thats what keeps good karma.

Sort of like BU fans chanting 'BC Sucks' at every game? And let's not forget 'The Somg'. :D

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

Tommy Cross out for a month with an MCL injury :O very bad news. Down to 4 regular D men. Time for patch alber to show what he's got.

Not good. Maybe I missed it but I don't recall ever hearing or reading a return date / time frame for Wey. Does anyone have any idea when he'll be back? I'm not entirely comfortable with Lyles out there.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

That being said, last night was a fun game to watch. The Atkinson, Gibbons, Whitney line is something else! Larger crowd than I expected but I guess maybe the Maine fans accounted for that.

Dont worry about Lyles, he is a heck of an athlete and will do a very good job, very good.
He has been behind the 8 ball since day one because so many reputation kids have been brought in and they get the benefit of the doubt over him. He does not have an advisor/agent calling the coaches 24/7 promoting his cause and bullying them into more icetime. Watch his production and plus minus over the next month and compare it to the others. He will be a strong addition. As long as he settles down and keeps it simple, he will excel

Jerry better recruit some of the foozball teams o-line to run cover for him

Agree they are idiots.. dont confuse the fanboys with the the knowledgable BU fans. They do not represent the lifelong fan base, 4 years and done, no interest in hockey, drama and music majors, girls, ... need I say anymore, its a social event to them no more.

Disagree. Plenty of knowledgeable BU fans chant "BC Sucks" as well. For better or worse, it's become a tradition, and it was around before any current BU students, knowledgeable or otherwise, were on campus.

Sad, very sad and dumb...never yelled that in my life (nor anyone I was with) and have been to probably 50+ BC/BU games.. Some of my favorite opponent players were from BC Timmy Sheehy, Richie Smith, Bill Army, Joey Mullen, Dave Emma, I have a ton of respect for the program even when they were down a bit, always appreciated the local and American flavor back in the day.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

Looks like BC has righted the ship after the regrettable 3 game losing streak. The last two games have been VERY impressive. Man is that Gibbons-Whitney-Atkinson line fun to watch or what? Now let's just take care of business against the puppies next Friday.

In the past, they have gone with 5 defensemen. Lyles should be ok for a month.

GREAT POST! I would say a great majority of "older" Eagles such as myself feel that way about the BU program and the slew of fantastic players that have worn the "BOSTON" across their jersey

The original time frame was listed at 4-8 weeks. Don't forget that he can still skate and keep in condition except for that one arm. At least I hope he does. That would put him coming back sometime in February or as late as March 1. Quite possible he and Cross may come back together.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

I respect BU hockey. But I also respect the rivalry. I never want to see BU win, but I'll tip my cap to them when they do - and I like to see their alums succeed in the NHL.

That said, I hope they give up fifteen goals to us next week... and miss the Hockey East tournament. :D

As for BC's D -

I really don't think there are any forwards who have the natural ability to move back to D the way Boyle did in 2007. It'll be up to Alber to keep things steady until one of the two get back. It can be managed - most teams in Hockey East are pretty mediocre this year, and it looks like both of the D will be back before BC plays UNH to end the regular season.

I don't know what kind of half rate program you're used to, but I'm 99% certain York doesn't listen to any of the 'advisors' when it comes to icetime or who is starting. Those who perform in practice/games get to play. Simple as that.

Lyles was not good enough to crack the roster last year barring injury and is probably right below Wey on the depth chart this year. That being said I hope he takes the opportunity to step up and show he should be in there every night. That 6th d-man has been scary for years. Wey had a couple of bad moments this season and I think taking the Brock Bradford approach while injured might help him get used to D-1 level hockey.

Speaking of players who don't dress very often, when I saw Tommy Atkinson out in Denver he was playing with his hair on fire. His brother gets all the accolades but depending on Alber's skill level I wouldn't be surprised if Tommy moved into a Forward slot if they move someone back to D. Kid has some tenacity about him. Of course I don't see a capable forward on this team that has the size and the defensive mindset to drop back either. They already lack a physical presence back there to begin with. It will be interesting to see going forward.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

Agreed, while I haven't seen Alber play based on what I see from T. Atkinson I'd guess the dropoff from 12th forward to Atkinson is probably less than the dropoff from Dman 6 to Dman 7.

However, I also don't see a guy who can naturally move back to D, and I'm not sure this would be the right time to mess with the forward lines anyway.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

Could anyone tell me about Patrick Wey?
I thought I followed BC hockey as closely as possible, but was unaware he was injured - as past posts have mentioned. What happened and how long is he expected out for?

"Freshman defenseman Patrick Wey will miss the next four-to-eight weeks as he recovers from a broken wrist suffered in Saturday (1/2/2010) night's 4-3 loss to the University of Denver in the Wells Fargo Cup tournament. Wey came out of a second period, mid-ice collision with one hand dangling"

Good Post. I was a little non-plussed as to how to reply to the comments about Agents/ Advisors and Jerry's response to whatever preassure they might put on him. I'd be willing to bet that only his general low key demeanor and good manners would prevent him from hanging up on someone who might attempt to influence him that way. I also agree about Tommy Atkinson. I'd love to see him get more ice time and think he probably earned at least some serious consideration by his play out west. Love the line about "playing like your hair is on fire" My son played high school hockey for a guy that frequently used that line and I always got a kick out of it.

And in retrospect, it's hard to determine exactly how well that went. I looked fine...right up until he took that awful angle on Tim Kennedy and played a starring role in costing BC the national title. I don't think I have any particular desire for a repeat. Given the choice, I think I'd prefer Alber be given a shot as opposed to having someone play out of position.

That 2-on-1 break would have made it 2-0 but Lerg made a great save.
