Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

The timing makes total sense.

He doesn't have to pull a Jack Parker and have to get up on stage and tell the world how his star player played the whole season without going to class.

BU = Major Junior :eek:

Except this time someone was skipping mass.

It comes off like Jerry doesn't have the patience to try to mold his players if they're not up to par yet. He doesn't want to deal with another Motherwell situation.

Skipping mass...well done ;)

I disagree with your part 2. The way I read the article is that that the kid didn't want to go to class. Speculation on my part (as is yours above), but Jerry hasn't acheived his reputation and perception based on is unwillingness to tailor his appraoch and work with the kids on the team.

Well aren't you a fancy-pants with your USHR subscription. :p Yes, it's more likely that he was following in the path of Boyle instead, and that he just didn't fit with all the other children.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

Best wishes to Kenny Ryan , but I think BC will be fine without him. Plenty of talent on this team. The key, like last year, is coming together as a unit. Also, goaltending.

Looks like Muse is ready to go on Sunday *knock on wood*

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

Interesting how Bob Ryan put the Kenny Ryan departure.

"BC seems to suffer heavy losses on an annual basis, but York wasn’t prepared for the news he got yesterday when touted freshman forward Kenny Ryan (no relation) walked into his office to announce that he would be heading back to play for the Windsor Spitfires in junior hockey. York says he never saw it coming." (emphasis mine)

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

Is Dave Hendrickson picking teams with his heart or his head? Here's how he ranks Hockey East this season.
2009-2010 Hockey East Preview
1. UML
2. BU
3. VT
4. UNH
5. NU
6. Maine
7. UMass
8. BC
9. MC
10. PC

BC in eighth place? Yikes.
To be fair, I think they may struggle a bit with a very young D and also a young team, so I picked them at 6th. But eighth?
The coach ain't a rookie Dave. ;)

Normally I kind of like Hendrickson, but picking BC eighth I think is straining the limits of credibility.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

In an attempt to bring this back to hockey, did anyone go Friday night? How did they look? What were the lines?

It's good to see freshmen on the scoresheet, regardless of who they are playing. Is this Atkinson's break-out season? He showed great progress towards the end of last year, and he certainly has the speed and skill to produce in this league.

Call it a hunch, but I feel abnormally optimistic about this team. It could be the most balanced team they have had in a while. Looking forward to Sunday at 5.

Kreider is a beast. The best we can hope for is that he stays 2 years, but he could easily be one and done. I thought Dumoulin looked awfully impressive as well. I agree with SteveF though: where is Ben Smith? Was he just a creation of the players he played with his sophomore year?

Remember that 18 of 25 players are frosh or sophomores. It's not outside the realm of possibility if the young players don't come through. But I agree, it's pretty unlikely.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

$30 for the BU ticket is just gouging. Is there any value at all in being a season ticket holder aside from the guaranteed ticket to the BU game? I'm thinking next year (my first year of old-fartdom) I might not even get season tickets and just go game by game, since it seems to be inexplicably cheaper than buying season tickets. Plus, most of the lower-level seats suck due to angle to the glass, whereas single game seats on the upper level are pretty nice.

BC really needs to do something to give season tickets more value.

Agreed.

It is. But I'd say 70% of the lower-level seats have horrible views. Some of the seats behind the benches might as well be labeled obstructed view. It makes me understand why there are so many empty seats down low even for 'sold out' games.

The only sections I could see buying season tix in are sections W, L, O, and C - the ones that are toward the corner but not all the way, and that have seats up high over the glass.

Do season ticket holders at least get access to Beanpot / HEA tickets? I always assumed as much.

I have a ticket in the last row of section N...pretty good seat.

I like this system better.
There are 7 games at $15. = $105.
There are 6 games at $20. = $120.
There are 1 games at $30. = $ 30.
$255 total for 14 games = $18.21 per game.

Last season was $22. for each game across the board (IIRC). This price structure will probably put more fannies in the seats, especially the $15 tix. BU/BC is worth $30. and will sell out easily.

Pretty sure every game was $20 last year, yet games would then go on sale for $10? Great deal for season ticket holders.

It's quite possible as he played with Gerbe...

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

How do we think the BC versus Vermont game will go?

Ryan will be missed but it is most likely best for all involved if he did not want to be there. The real harm to the program is that someone else might have filled that spot for the next 3 or 4 years had he come to that conclusion sooner. I have watched him play for years and he will be just fine as a hockey player. How far he goes ultimately we will just have to wait and see.

I hope the boys bring their "A" game Sunday evening...because if they do the outcome will be special! You never know how a young team is going play from game to game but it sure seems like Coach has them on schedule if not a little bit ahead with the integration of new players. They should be fun to watch for the next few years!

In an upset...BC 4 and Vermont 2!

I wouldn't call it an upset

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

ESPNU has college hockey at 5pm, teams TBA.

Are there any other games at that time? I think it's more than a good bet that it'll be BC@UVM.
