Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

You can of course throw my opinion away, but I think BC is a year away from the top

Absolutely right. Barring pro defections (certainly possible), they aren't losing much. Sneep. Smith. Price. Lombardi.

No reason why BC can't go back to back this year and next year. :D (right steve?)

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

there are 9-10 F's ahead of most but Kreider up front

You could say that about any team every year.

Only the absolutely, ridiculously talented kids jump into the top half of a large returning pool of forwards at this level. The only other way this wouldn't happen is if you had a ton of returning schmucks or if you had almost NO ONE returning.

Lyles could certainly vie for icetime this year but he's not a long-term guy. Only a freshman having trouble adjusting (like Kunes as a freshman) will get him into the lineup over Wey, Samuelsson, and Dumoulin.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

Not arguing but if you think BC is going to the natl champ game and the freshmen will be a big part of it, you will be wrong. they might fill in but wont be the key

To put it another way, if a few of them don't step up and produce (think Whitney and Gibbons as freshmen), then BC will not stand a chance. Hence, their impact will be substantial and if a few of them don't play bigger than their experience, this team will be competitive, but not a national contender. That brings us back to my initial comment that they will be a key factor to BC's success. (forwards and dmen) They need to be "a big part of it" for this team to achieve great things. Let's move on.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

It appears that this thread is ignoring the biggest issue.
who is playing in goal?
When will Muse return?

Lyles is better then samuelson, who is very over rated. If lyeles ever slowed down and simply played d and moved the puck quick and short, he could easily be top 5 or 6, at worst.

i thought he meant next year and the year after. that would obvioiusly mean back to back to back in your book, mr jinx. howd that work out last time for us?

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

BC wins 4-1.

Shots on goal were something like 42-19. SFX isn't that bad, they tied BU yesterday and gave BC a decent game until the third period. They're very, very physical and were hitting very hard right off the opening faceoff. I'm glad, because that kind of game will better prepare BC for the regular season than the kind of up and down, no-contact exhibition we saw against St. Thomas More a couple years back.

Lines were:
Almeida, Atkinson and Smith
Gibbons, Whitney and Whitney
Lombardi, Price and Kreider
Ryan, Mullane and Carey

Jimmy Hayes wasn't playing... anyone know what's up with him? Is he hurt or was he just held out? He seemed to really come on strong at the end of last year.

Goalscorers were Lombardi (x2), Cross and Mullane. Lombardi had a pair of sweet goals. The opener was a gorgeous diagonal feed across the front of the net from Price, Lombardi tapped it in past the helpless goalie. His second goal, which made it 3-1, was an individual effort, he carried it past a SFX defender, cut across the crease and roofed it. Mullane's goal was a rebound off a Lombardi shot.

Lombardi definitely looked fiery out there, he was a real physical presence in addition to putting up two goals and an assist. I think he's in line to have a real good year, especially if that line combo keeps up. We all know what Price is capable of, and obviously a lot of people think highly of Kreider. That line could give BC really good scoring balance.

Muse played the first period and gave up the only goal (glove side high, again, but it was a really nice shot on the power play). Venti looked really good in the second period, making a few nice stops. Milner played a pretty uneventful third.

On D I was really impressed with Dumoulin's speed, he got back and broke up or disrupted a few odd-man rushes. Samuelsson was involved physically and stood up for his teammates after a few late/cheap hits by SFX players. Sneep had a pretty good game. I don't like him as the QB of the power play but he might be our best option at the moment since he is the only veteran of the defensive corps.

The PP was pretty typical BC PP, good puck movement but unable to score (they had an obscene amount of power plays - I think 11 - and had a long 5-on-3).

Apparently they're going to charge money for Friday's U18 game, which is pretty weak. Turnout was low today and it was free.

Thanks BCWH SF Joe.
Muse played? Good news.:)

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

I only saw the third, didnt even see Price play.. I think Alber was in for him at that point. Also, Wey didnt skate in the third (scratched like hayes?).

Thought the most determined skaters were Carey and Atkinson. Smith and Gibbons looked good, as well. Would have liked to see a little more out of Kreider. Only saw one goal, I think Mullane actually deflected Lombardi's shot in the third.

On defense, I liked Dumoulin's size. He and Cross provide a big presence on the blueline, otherwise the rest of the team struck me as very small. Both also showed no hesitation to attack the net on the rush. Shea will probably be the most reliable guy in his own end.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

I think Lombardi is poised for a breakout year. The St. Francis Xavier goalie is excellent, but he never had a chance on either goal. That line has great potential.

Judging from the penalty minutes and infractions (roughing, charging, elbowing), it appears they were able to match that physical toughness. You don't want to condone undiscipline hockey, but it's nice to see them play big right out of the gate. They may be small in stature, but if they can continue to be the aggressor, while scoring goals, they will be tough to play against.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

BC has a link to a new commercial off the front page - http://bceagles.com - where does it actually run?

Nice to see hockey as the entry page instead of football finally.

Admission will apparently be $5.00, season ticket holders get in free (they have tickets with a zero price already).

Speaking of ticket prices, adult admission for games this season will apparently depend on the perceived popularity of the opponent (prices subject to change, of course). Based on what my tickets say, here's the breakdown:

$15.00 - Merrimack (2), Clarkson, Providence(2), UML, UMass-Amherst
$20.00 - Northeastern (2), Vermont (2), Maine, UNH
$30.00 - BU

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

$30 for the BU ticket is just gouging. Is there any value at all in being a season ticket holder aside from the guaranteed ticket to the BU game? I'm thinking next year (my first year of old-fartdom) I might not even get season tickets and just go game by game, since it seems to be inexplicably cheaper than buying season tickets. Plus, most of the lower-level seats suck due to angle to the glass, whereas single game seats on the upper level are pretty nice.

BC really needs to do something to give season tickets more value.
