Boston College Hockey '13-'14: Tournament Season - One Game At A Time!

Re: Boston College Hockey '13-'14: Tournament Season - One Game At A Time!

So I knew it was pretty much done after we blew chunks on Friday but after last night I wanted to take a quick look at the B1G bracket and the numbers behind the COP comparison between BC and MN again.

A few facts first:
- COP currently is held by MN 4.75 to 4.5.
- Minnesota gets favorable brackets in that they will not face a common opponent that they share with BC until the championship game. Michigan, Wisconsin, and Penn State are all on 1 side of the bracket. This makes it easier to break down the scenarios.

OK so assume BC beats ND today (iffy) and they don't lose to UNH in the Garden if they advance (duh). BC will go up to a 4.6000.

Minnesota scenarios:
Lose to Michigan, they get 4.6000 and tie BC. Tiebreaker on the 1 seed goes to RPI.
Lose to Wisconsin, they go 4.6500 and get the 1-seed.
Lose to Penn State, they go 4.550 and BC wins COP and RPI once again is the sole determinant.

Not out of the realm of possibility but I'd say it's not reasonable to expect to grab the overall 1 at this point. I'm sure as heck not going to root for Pedd State under any circumstance.

Here is a reason to root for Penn State beating Minnesota in the Final. They would become the #16 seed of the NCAA most likely even below the AHA champion and then be BC's opponent in Worcester even if Minnesota remains #1 for Minnesota would not play PSU in the first round. That would be a far better opponent than say Michigan, Colgate or MSU-Mankato as now stands.

with only 6 teams, the big ten tourney is lame. all teams automatically qualify for a one and done format. that heavily favors the underdogs which renders the regular season somewhat meaningless. obviously you play for the byes and overall seeding but still. as we're seeing in the hockey east quarters, winning two of three isn't easy and is supposed to be part of the struggle/journey.

Re: Boston College Hockey '13-'14: Tournament Season - One Game At A Time!

37 SOG's last night, 44 in the previous two games vs these guys. UNH fans can put comments here. For us it was a great sign
It's an interesting perspective one gets when watching on TV rather than watching live. I was at a memorial service for an old friend yesterday so couldn't be at the game.

When watching the game live, I see flubs in the D zone, say 'Oh-oh', then tend to forget about them when it turns out harmless, and we wind up scoring some goals and ultimately win the game. Watching on TV, I see the flub and say 'Oh-oh', and then can rewind instantly to see what went wrong. Some of that stuff just sticks in the old memory bank, and I have to tell ya... I loved the outcome of the game yesterday, but I went    an awful lot in the last 25 minutes of that game. We may have held ND to 21 SOG, but we gave up numerous Grade A chances to them that amazingly never reached the net.

The difference between Friday and Saturday, IMO, was ND capitalized on Friday and did not on Saturday. One can also say, we did capitalize Sat. but not on Friday. That's hockey. BUT... our best shot at advancing from here on out is to tighten up the D.

I am the Nervous Nelly now. Me thinks if we play that D and give away the puck again like yesterday, we could be in for a very long day. TIGHTEN IT UP!

Go Eagles!

Impressive streak by Johnny G. So at this point is he the most talented forward in HEA history other than Kariya? Where do Reasoner and Gionta and Montgomery fall in there?

According to "The Kid," Gaudreau is better than Wayne Gretzky. This statement, along with thinking a player or players from Boston College would have gone out drinking after Friday night's game, is why I just can't take this kid seriously. And he still doesn't realize you have to put an "s" at the end of the word "assist" when a player has more than one.

Re: Boston College Hockey '13-'14: Tournament Season - One Game At A Time!

when did he say that? if he did, you obviously don't have to take him seriously for that but he is very well connected and needs to be taken seriously for things he reports.

The Gretzky statement, he said on his blog, after the game 2 win. The quote about guys going out drinking after the game 1 loss, was on twitter. He got called out by Justin Murphy.

he's a great source for us, if he shuts down like it seemed a couple weeks ago, we have no other person to feed us any inside stuff

if that's true, he won't be getting anything for us for much longer

I think you're reading into things a little too much. Just my opinion. No one thinks he is better than Wayne G. No one. Obviously he didn't like the effort on Friday and basically said the obvious that they won't be going out drinking. Duh. Justin Murphy essentially said it was so obvious that he shouldn't have even had to write it.

Re: Boston College Hockey '13-'14: Tournament Season - One Game At A Time!

justin also has prob had more inside info than anyone over last 10+ years and keeps his mouth shut. classy, stand up guy who cares about the program. many things should stay in house

Re: Boston College Hockey '13-'14: Tournament Season - One Game At A Time!

I think BC needs to just do what they did last night. Keep the heavier forecheck. Commit to getting in there and sticking your nose back there and hitting someone. Don't play soft like Friday. And go to the net with authority. Summerhays is clearly freaked out by it and he was flopping around last night looking like the biggest asshat. Get in his head and mess with him like Gerbe used to do to Bishop. Creating PPs is also another huge issue. Jackson is clearly bent out of shape that his team got caught breaking the rules and he'll be all over the crew tonight. BC is clicking like crazy on the PP. Force these guys to take penalties by going to the net like Brown did and hope the Summerhays flop doesn't fool the officials like it did once last night as well.

I expect ND will be a little better with the decision making with BC forechecking than last night and will make fewer mistakes but that pressure is still going to create turnovers with rushed passes or limit the speed of the breakouts by forcing things to open areas rather than open sticks.

BC forwards need to pick up the trailer. BC defense needs to clear the front of the net and let Demko see the shots. He saw almost none of the goals on Friday.

I expect tonight to be tight tight tight and probably pretty friggin boring, similar to that March 1st game. God help us if we get stuck in Conte with multiple overtimes, even with the 4:30 start. Need to get back here and get stuff done and get the kids in bed for school tomorrow.

Hey hoky congrats on PC making it to the Garden.

Re: Boston College Hockey '13-'14: Tournament Season - One Game At A Time!

pretty sure if the kid's source(s) didn't want him releasing certain info, they would make that pretty clear. and if he didn't oblige, they'd stop feeding him. now, his opinions...by all means, those are fair game.

Re: Boston College Hockey '13-'14: Tournament Season - One Game At A Time!

Friday's game was quite a show by ND, and quite a strange display of poor defense by BC. I haven't seen many BC games this season, but the D usually is not that loose, from what I can remember...
Anyways, best of luck for tonight !

Funny thing about the officiating...Those guys did the Maine vs PC game on Friday night and called only three penalties in the entire game. They called that many in the first ten minutes of the BC-ND Game 2.

Really ? You thought I was serious ? Come on. Must be a BU fan. It's sarcasm. I use it a lot when I write and it's not changing.

So were you being sarcastic when you wrote that Sonny Milano was "one of the biggest recruits BC's staff has ever landed?" Or were you being sarcastic when you said Miles Wood is "the biggest recruit in the country" a few months later? Or when you said Miles Wood is the best high school player you have ever seen?

i know, but he can't make statements like that and expect them let him into the inner circle. It was kind of sophomoric

Re: Boston College Hockey '13-'14: Tournament Season - One Game At A Time!

i'd say his comment on milano was accurate. did he mean top uncommitted player in country in regard to wood? also, i believe he is in high school...isn't it possible wood is in fact the best high school player HE has ever seen? lighten up a little.
