Boston College Hockey, '12-'13, Volume II: #JohnnyHockey or #GaudreaubeyBaker?

Re: Boston College Hockey, '12-'13, Volume II: #JohnnyHockey or #GaudreaubeyBaker?

Dude, we got problems. Big, big problems. There is no way to reasonably cope with this many injuries on defense. And moving Whitney back to D is robbing Peter to pay Paul. The difference between him and Linell on that first line is a chasm. Linell and Straight both continue to do what they do best, not score goals. They're like watching Joe Rooney before his senior year. Plenty of opportunities, no put away. They'd make great cops though. Every shot is right in the center body mass like they teach at the academy.

I truly hope that next years recruiting class turns out to be the quality of its reputation, so Straight can trade his top 6 spot for the bottom two lines spot where he belongs and some of the third and fourth liners can trade their game jerseys for shirts and ties. Ugh. I am totally demoralized right now.

Lol at the fraud known as mutha fucha

Claver, how did this team score nine at NU??? That's a serious question...
He's all red for some reason. I wonder how that happened?

Re: Boston College Hockey, '12-'13, Volume II: #JohnnyHockey or #GaudreaubeyBaker?

Two basically meaningless goals for the entire weekend. This team is obviously not built to come from behind.

Re: Boston College Hockey, '12-'13, Volume II: #JohnnyHockey or #GaudreaubeyBaker?

Well, there I was. So 'Sure' and 'certain' that BC would win handily over Maine that I decided to drive the 70 minutes down there to see them do it. Ughh. I remember thinking between the 1st & 2nd periods, "Man...they might not even get a GOAL...never mind win." Maine deserved to win both games, and a stellar defense was half the reason why. The other half was BC's inability to get out of its own way. Passes weren't clicking, that fast transition game that's been a hallmark was nowhere to be seen.

Properly, this ought to send BC tumbling. And from wherever they land they can try to dream it up all over again.

Re: Boston College Hockey, '12-'13, Volume II: #JohnnyHockey or #GaudreaubeyBaker?

Ultimately, I'd be willing to bet that BC just isn't as good as the fast start to the season, but it can't be this bad...can it? I still think they will figure some things out and play better at some point down the stretch here.

Wasn't there, HE had no video highlights, only able to read the boxscore, no proof it exists!

Matheson & Sullivan should be back soon so we can get back to having players in their natual position which will be nice. You can hide 1 F playing D, 2 is pretty rough.

Coming into tonight, the bottom 2 lines were averaging 1.1 points per game combined.

I hope Straight is still hurt not quite sure what he's done to deserve getting top 6 minutes. I'd put Silk up there.

Once again the 5 F 1st unit was impressive, we didn't get the opportunity to see dumb drop passes cause they couldn't enter the zone. I know Matheson not being back there f's the 1st unit up but Mullane/Hayes are being wasted on the point.

The team isn't this bad, as long as they keep putting a solid effort out there they'll fight through it. But their not talented enough to coast the way they have the past 6 weeks.

Y'all are crazy. You must love to fret. Big whoop they had a weekend IN JANUARY where absolutely nothing went right for them. It was seriously funny at times to see how the next bounce could go against them. BC is still repeating as national champions this April in Pittsburgh.

Johnny Hockey -3 in two games. Ouch.

Re: Boston College Hockey, '12-'13, Volume II: #JohnnyHockey or #GaudreaubeyBaker?

There is this goalie named Billet
Got fried as if in a skillet
His teammates no help
His goal Maine did fillit
BC fans just saying 'cant you just willit?'

Agree with everything except the repeating part, they are just not deep enough to win the title this year. It was a question mark before the season and we are seeing the answer. The skill level is pedestrian, at best, after top two lines.

We'll see how they respond next weekend.

Re: Boston College Hockey, '12-'13, Volume II: #JohnnyHockey or #GaudreaubeyBaker?

I guess on the positive side, BC's surges seem to come on the heels of awful performances against Maine. So I guess from hereon in they win every single game right through the NC.

For those here that have wanted to break up the lines to spread out the scoring... you got your wish.
Here's last night's lineup...

Smith - Brown - Silk
Hayes - Arnold - Straight
Guadreau - Mullane - Linell
Spiro - Sit - Dyroff

MacLeaod - Whitney
Doherty - Wey
McMullen - Jeke

Billett

I suppose it worked. The lone goal was scored by Brown, assists to Smith & Doherty. ;)

Can't say I didn't warn you. ;)

Re: Boston College Hockey, '12-'13, Volume II: #JohnnyHockey or #GaudreaubeyBaker?

We need Matheson and Sullivan back as soon as possible.

Seems to me few teams have an answer for the Hayes-Arnold-Straight line. These guys cycle like nobody's business. Hayes is quite a playmaker but really needs to shoot more. A goal scorer on the right wing would make a heck of a difference. So far, we don't have an extra one of those. Put Whitney or Dyroff there.

Try Dyroff with Gaudreau-Mullane. Dyroff actually does a very good job of finding open space in front of the net. Johnny and Mullane would find him... will he bury it? Dyroff is a very capable forward, strong on the boards and actually one of the few that throws his body around. If nothing else, he could clear some space for his linemates.

Spiro-Sit-Straight
Smith-Brown-Linnel

Just throwing some stuff out there. Or, once we get some D back, go back to the original forward lines.
This Friday will tell us a lot. Next Monday even more. I think we rise above adversity.

GO EAGLES!

I'm starting to wonder if they should at least try separating the top 5 across 3 lines instead of 2. At the very least, that gives teams an extra line to think about.

Re: Boston College Hockey, '12-'13, Volume II: #JohnnyHockey or #GaudreaubeyBaker?

Well... there was no chemistry on the Mullane-Gaudreau line last night. Was it because Whitney was missing from that line or was it that Maine was banging at Johnny constantly? Linell got some good chances, but not sure he's the answer there.

Hayes-Arnold are a two man cycling show. They control play along the boards and in the O zone consistently. An edit from my first post, I'd put Dyroff here and leave Whitney with 1st line. To me, Dyroff is the one that can skate, can bang it up, and can cycle with the big boys (I think Smith could fit well here too, but Dyroff is good at going to the net and he's not shy about pulling the trigger). Let the 3rd and 4th lines develop and create some chemistry. Or, just leave Straight there, but I'd like to see a change and possibly more production.

I like my 3 & 4 lines. You mix things up too much and there won't be any chemistry or any scoring (like last night).

That all being said, it doesn't matter what we think. ;)
Jerry and staff will figure it out. They always do.
The Eagles get back to how they were playing in the first half and we aren't having this conversation.
