Boston College Eagles 🦅 2018-2019

Re: Boston College Eagles 🦅 2018-2019

I'm wondering if there will be any changes on the coaching staff with the way things went this past season which was horrendous

If the staff is the same you can expect more of the same results.

Anyway, last night was the anniversary of Saint Kolanos and Saint Johnny scoring their respective "Goal Heard Round the World" kind of thing. I watched some clips of those games (thank you Grant for posting so many of those) last night for a trip down memory lane. What great memories. But also, so sad to see how far we have dropped. Those teams were loaded, had speed and skill and more importantly had balls (and a competent coaching staff). It was entertaining to watch.

We are a shell of what we once were.

If nothing else, they should run these highlights on a video screen in the weight room on an endless loop while these kids hit the weights this summer.

ADAPT or DIE.

Helleson has to be part of the class

Agree. Helleson is 18 as is Marshall Warren. As solid as Fitzgerald and Kim were, neither one was a great offensive threat. Kim had a great shot but drilled it into the opponents knees most of the season. Both Helleson and Warren are offensive type players who can move the puck up ice. Warren has been on an offensive tear the last couple of months. Warren can score and will likely not be slapping pucks into the crotch of opponents this Fall. He will skate around them. Finkelstein should be an even better player this Fall, as he shook off the rust from sitting out after his transfer. I also have to believe that JY has a scholly left for someone who might want to come to BC this fall. He bounced Tortora early in the season, and Samuellson left the team after 1st semester, and Wahlstrom departed as well.

When you only have 11 wins you cannot say Kim & Fitz were solid.

On the PK, BC gave up key goals and the coverage was terrible. The whole defensive corp was weak in general glaringly more noticable with a poor BC offense for most of the games.

Breakdowns on defense

Mistakes with the puck whether it's passing, drop passes, inability to effectively clear the puck in the defensive zone to relieve the pressure, poor icing decisions that led to goals after the faceoff was in the BC zone.

Forced to take penalties after a making mistake especially in the BC zone

ADAPT or DIE.

If there are no changes and the coaches do the same thing something is wrong.

If they watch video of last season there has to be change in the way do things during a game and how to adjust to game situations.

Can you name some things they did consistently well last season ?

Ray, add Sox 2018 :-)

LOL 😂

I was concerned about the pitching and they did nothing over the winter to shore up the pitching staff because of the losses to FA signings, hold out by Kimbrel and the health of regulars like Sales, Price and other problems with the other pitchers like Rodriguez who is inconsistent and has yet to establish himself

Sales just resigned and if he has long term problems they are in trouble

I was concerned about the starting pitching and Dombowski just stood pat

It’s alarming how many runs they are yielding each game so far and it is hard to recover from this start if things don’t turn around soon

Last year they were off and running from the start but this does not bold well

This is true. Remember that when you all drink your shot glass of Bud Light for $20 in the Friendly Confines. John Henry needs to keep feeding the beast known as the old legendary gold-digger wife 30 years his younger.

Daily reminder to BC athletics department and Jerry York. Adapt or Die.

I just hope they are not banking on past accomplishments to get anymore free rides for next season from the fans and supporters

You get tired of listening to rehashing of past accomplishments on the scoreboard and PA system to deflect from the present

There is so many times you can listen to for example 2012 or the last beanpot win when you are concerned with now and the present state of all BC sports teams not just the demise of the hockey program

Giving money or donations will not do if it does not change anything when you need change inside the locker room and on the bench and ice

Adapt or die is appropriate BC motto now 🦅🏆

I just get tired and wary up in the booster club of listening to the excuses and empty platitudes

Re: Boston College Eagles 🦅 2018-2019

The newest platitude that we were being force-fed by the end of the season was about how even though they aren't winning they are producing great people!

Re: Boston College Eagles 🦅 2018-2019

You guys should make an offseason thread so we can forget about the eagle emoji saga and make clicking the thread work correctly again.

Pretty sure that Kolanos and Johnny Hockey were not among the most avid weight lifters on the team. They were both very talented goal scorers and playmakers. Guess what-the staff missed on some of their recent recruits and absent Hutsko (who slumped a bit in his sophomore season/and injured) and Cotton, we were hard pressed to score goals. On the positive side, BC ran through UMass (Frozen Four runner up) and Providence (Frozen Four team) in the Hockey East tournament, and are bringing in two offensive scorers/playmakers in Alex Newhook and Matthew Boldy who will supercharge the offense this Fall. Helleson will arguably be BC 's best overall Defensemen the day he arrive on campus, and Marshall Warren will not be far behind Helleson. Knight is an elite goalie along the lines of Thatcher Demko.

OK. But we've been playing this game of BC Hockey Madlibs for quite a few years in a row now during the offseason. Especially on the offensive side of things.

Just go back and put some names in there from previous classes. "This year is different!" ... let's hope that is actually true this time.

Prove me wrong.

Re: Boston College Eagles 🦅 2018-2019

Nick has a a point. Mookie expects all of your incomng classes to shine.... instead we have seen a procession of John sabo and former employee #6 the past couple seasons

Re: Boston College Eagles 🦅 2018-2019

You are what your record says you are, and it was not good. However they proved that they can beat teams when they score goals, we just didn't have the ozone talent to make the difference throughout the year. Whalstrom was not the player we were expecting and Hutsko was limited by injuries, although the last few games of the season he showed what he can do. Cotton was terrific and expect he will have a monster year if he stays healthy. We need some scoring balance so that the defense doesn't just focus on him. Goaltending will be a question mark. We don't need a coaching change, we need players who can put the puck in the net. Hockey season is five months away, can't wait.
