Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

Amazingly we are still #5 in PWR. ND lost, OSU lost, MN lost etc.
Duluth seems to be the most consistent team out there and Michigan is on a roll. Also appears BU is not missing a couple of key players all that much.

The Eagles have got to start scoring some goals soon. Loosen up the grip on the stick boys.

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

You know, these things that were all once good eventually come to an end. Or if you like, what goes around comes around. Eventually. Lets face it Eagles fans, Jerrys days are over. He cant get through to his boys anymore, I mean he's what, like 70 years old ? No wonder the kids dont listen to him. He had a good run though. Won some championships and all, but you do know its time for the old geezer to step aside and let some young blood and young guns take over the reigns. I mean really, does he think he should be coaching into his 80's for God's sake?

The other thing thats obvious is that BC just isnt getting the talent level they used to. I'd really be hard pressed to name somebody on the roster because quite frankly no one really knocks your socks off, know what I mean? There's just no name recognition anymore with any of these guys. Crap, you're having to go to Maine of all places to try to find a decent goalie. Now thats 2FF. I suspect a lot of that is that todays kids just dont relate to someone as old as Jerry. Who wants to go play for an old geezer no matter how sweet of a disposition he has? I'll tell you, no one wants that any more. Time for Jerry to think seriously about retiring and giving the younger guys a chance to show what they can do. Time for the old coot to be less selfish, not only for BC but for the kids as well.

Maybe you replace your aging coach and replace your rink at the same time. Get some excitement stirring for the program again. Lets face it, BC hockey after getting slapped by CC last year, is in a downward spiral.

Funny stuff. Needed a good chuckle this morning. :)

Indeed.

On a serious note, being #5 in PWR is still more than I expected coming into the year. Problem is, how long can that last if they keep playing like this? 5-7-1 in the last 13. A full blown goaltending controversy now with Venti starting at Fenway today...not scoring goals.

Something has to be up with Milner. His last start was a 2-1 win. How then does he get overlooked for Venti at such a critical time? I don't get it.

As for all bear, it's hard to figure out how a Maine fan is talking trash about BC and why a Maine fan is so obsessed with BC. Have to believe he's actually a BU fan.

Look, I am not and never will be an Eagles fan and surely don't wish them good fortune (especially today). But this just has to be the most ludicrous post I've ever seen on this thread, and maybe on the whole board. If I really wanted to do something to kill your program, I'd find a way to make Jerry disappear.

Maybe you should try some decaf, pal.

My guess is, this is merely sending a message. Not to the goaltenders, but to the team.
I'd like to see Jerry put an exclamation point on it and send them out like this...

Smith - Sit - Straight
Almeida - Hayes - Linell
Gaudreau - Mullane - Whitney
Kreider - Arnold - Carey

What the heck... can it get any worse? There's no where to go but up.

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

Denial - Not a river in Egypt guys.
Increasing numbers of poor performances. Sometimes coaches just dont get it anymore and their assistants are tired of it all. Jerry had a good run. A very good run, but his time is coming to an end. Time for his assistant or replacement to move in. Lets face it, it would be a valued position. Time for Jerry to do the unselfish thing as a final statement, and go out with class.

Let's not get carried away.

OK they stop the bleeding today, but if they continue to blow games, they will keep sliding down. 0 and 2 goals will not win many games. They are fortunate to get 2 points. How many games now with 2 or less goals?

It's obvious the graduation of the seniors from last year, with Atkinson and J Hayes leaving early really put a crimp on the offense. They got off to a good start but has slumped since November.

When Kreider leaves after this year, who's going to replace his goals??? York needs to stop the bleeding and recruit a goal scorer or 2, else the next year will be the same, no offense.

Every good program has had these problems of players leaving early.

All Bear : You should just stick to the Maine thread as Maine has their own problems with Timmay. York is fine and will rebuild the offense in time.

How did Venti look in net? Awesome story for a local kid and 3rd string goalie to get that start and get the win.

Interesting tidbit... BU's and BC's third goalies are from the same local high school, so I'd assume teammates. (If Venti can be still be called the 3rd goalie.)

Wow...only 15 shots on goal for the Huskies in the game.

If this is a down period for us, then the rest of college hockey better pray to Teblow that we never get up. I can't wait for the banner to be unfurled in October.

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

Hey until UMass, Venti had a perfect record. I was just super happy to see him finally get a start and didn't waste time worrying about the other 3. BTW, York did mention Brad Barone (w/ some help from Kreider on name) in the postgame press conference.

I added mini-gallery to the game recap - http://www.uscho.com/recaps/2012/01...wins-frozen-fenway-game-against-northeastern/ The Fenway sweaters will be worn again as an alternate sweater during the rest of the season. I don't like the color (or the idea of alternates - I'm an old fogey), but there are a lot worse shades of gold out there.

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

Melissa, where did you hear that?? I love the idea.

I *love* these jerseys and would do many legal or illegal things to get one.

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

I say, nice bounce back win in an important league game with a lot of distractions.

Wash, rinse, repeat. Every year is the same drill. Time to relax people. BC hockey is still in position for home ice in the play-offs, they are still in position for the NCAA tournament, heck they are arguably still front runners for the useless crown of regular season HE champs. With a month and a half of league play left, I'd say BC is in pretty good position.

Is the recent lack of scoring concerning, sure. Is the fact that their 1st round NHL draft picks are playing very pedestrian concerning, yes again. But they are 1st rounders for a reason and odds are they will start producing.

We learn every year it's a long season. Usually we learn that through a successful stretch right about now. We will see very soon if this team has it in them.
