Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

If this team continues to pressure and, more importantly, support the play the way they did all weekend, they will be tough to beat and they will score a lot of goals. Just so quick on the puck and getting back. Just solid team play all around.

Does 24 play with a six ft long stick? He gets to more pucks.

Granted 13 stole the show, and its one weekend, but most everyone showed traces of that growth/experience/next level we were counting on. Everyone but 12, but its the first weekend, he gets a breakfast ball.

Is Johnny Gaudreau any relation to mid-60's Brown defenseman Bob Gaudreau ? Just curious.

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

Right off the bat his saucer pass to Mullane was a beauty. Then he followed that up by going to the net and banging a nice pass into the open net. And then went into Gretzsky's office and made the ND defensemen look foolish on 2 separate occasions in the 2nd and 3rd period each.

Not bad.

Paco: Look at Bobby tackle. I haven't seen a tackle like that since Joe Montana.
Walter: Joe Montana was a quarterback, you idiot.
Paco: I said Joe Mantegna.

Exactly. I mean, it's like when you get accepted into college, the letter will tell you it is dependent on you keeping your grades in good standing through graduation. In this case, he was considered worthy at 15 but did not develop enough as he aged. He was still welcome to come and get his scholarship, but BC said you'll probably be wearing a suit in the stands for 4 years, if you want out of this then you're welcome to.

Keep in mind the scholarship that BC promised to him was never taken off the table. So... how does that look bad on BC/York?

He'll get into a better situation. BC will get some scholarship money back. Everyone is better off, no?

I completely agree with this point. I think York and the staff did the honorable thing by being honest with the kid. I wish him the best of luck wherever he ends up.

Now maybe this opens up some money for the full ride Cam Darcy is looking for?

Also, Johnny Gaudreau was very impressive last night. On a few occasions, I did see some Nathan Gerbe in him.

Thank you, Gene DeFilippo, for spending all your time caring only about the underachieving football and basketball programs. Leave hockey alone and it will be fine. He's a disastrous AD who has run the two money-making programs at BC into the ground. The basketball program may suffer the same sort of fate the football program is now.

Come on now, I don't think it's fair to say that about the hoops program. Donahue did a pretty good job in year one. Obviously, with the roster turnover, this is gonna take a couple/few years to get going again. Just look at the roster...almost all freshmen. And I don't think they're exactly like the Fab Five.

This. The Donahue hire is the polar opposite of the Spaz hire. There's no doubt GDF has ruined the football program, but hiring Donahue was a great move.

not sure if we had discussed this but on Boston.com Jerry tells NM-BU it was Sameulsson's leaving late that freed up a scholarship that allowed us to offer Gaudreau, thank you very much Philip

“Johnny had the pick of whatever school he wanted,’’ said BC coach Jerry York. “It wasn’t just BC. We were just fortunate that [defenseman] Philip Samuelsson left late on us [for the pros] and we had a scholarship for him. Other than that, we wouldn’t have been involved.’’

and of course thanks to Greg Cronin but we already thanked him:D

I totally agree with this sentiment. I fail to see how Jerry could have handled this any more fairly.

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

Is it me or does this look like one of the hardest if not the hardest non conference schedule BC has ever had. Already played #6Nodak, MSU, and then are playing #2 ND, #3 DU, #4 Michigan, and then Mich tech/MSU. Looks pretty daunting, but awesome.

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

how do i vote for these power rankings?

The thread is listed as "2011-2012 NCAA Week 1 Rankings" I believe, and you can vote in there. Obviously, voting for this week is complete, but there will be a similar thread for next week's voting. Votes need to be in by 1pm Eastern on Monday. I'll probably start up the thread sometime this weekend, so keep an eye out for it.

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

Why cant BC get players like this??

Update: Tiefenwerth had four goals in the Junior Bruins 6-5 OT win over the Jersey Hitmen on Saturday night. Three of his goals came in the third period, including a shorthanded unassisted tally that gave the Junior Bruins the lead with 1:40 to go in regulation. (The Hitmen tied it up with 36 seconds left to send it into OT, whereupon the Junior Bruins took all of eight seconds to put an end to it on a Matt Lemire goal.)

Hello Lovejoy.....

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

You could probably make a pretty good team out of BC dropouts and rejects:

Saponari
Lovejoy
Pineault
Ryan Hayes
Styles Lyles
Todd Perry
Kenny Ryan
Tiefenwerth

I have to be missing some others...

Why can't we win national titles without these guys...?
