Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread
This is for JD, my thoughts from the game:
-BC jumped out of the gate real quick, getting a few shots. But they looked like a team that hadn't played a game yet for the rest of the first. Sloppy to start.
-Cleaned it up in the second, and looked solid.
-Came out slow in the third, with MSU pressuring to tie it.
-But once they tied it, BC responded immediately taking the lead again and dominating the rest of the way.
-Game may have been close for 2 periods on the scoreboard, but it wasn't close. Final score reflected the play.
-This team is so **** deep and has 3 lines that can score.
-That is not a slight at the 4th line either, Brown got the first goal of the game, and they look to be a very good checking line.
-Kreider is a beast. He was clearly the best player on the ice and it wasn't really close.
-It seems like his strength and skating have both improved. The commentators on the feed mentioned how he was like a freight train out there, unable to be moved or stopped once he got going.
-Cross was his usual self out there, letting nothing by him in the defensive zone while contributing in the offensive end. His work on the PP was impressive.
-I am already loving the Almeida-Hayes-Carey line. All 3 of them just battled all night, they are VERY strong along the boards and have a lot of skill.
-Straight was solid, he clearly looked like he was adjusting to the college game in the first two periods, but looked very good with Kreider in the third.
-I was somewhat disappointed in Arnold, while Kreider was dominating, Straight was playing alright, I just didn't see Arnold doing much.
-Johnny Gadreau is going to be great. Gerbe comparisons seem to be very apt. He didn't contribute on the scoreboard, but certainly played well.
-Mullane was his usually self. Always going 200%, he made a slick steal and pass on the Whitney goal.
-Whitney is a pure sniper. Looks to be a better goal scorer than Joe.
-PP stuggled to start the game. However, looked much smoother as the game went on.
-Danny Linnell surprised me as well, he was always around the puck when he was on the ice and I didn't see him make any mistakes.
-Dumoulin is so smooth, wasn't talked about much tonight because he didn't do much on offense, but the fact that his name was never mentioned in the D zone is good.
-MacLeod is another one who wasn't mentioned much, which was a good thing.
-Wey had a UGLY game. Both goals were on him. Just awful defense on both. He left a guy alone in the slot then got turned around on the second goal.
-The defense overall was very good, save for Wey. If he improves (which I expect because it was probably his worst game I have seen here at BC) that unit will be lights out.
-Milner was very solid. Didn't see a lot of action and there wasn't a whole lot he could do on both the goals.
-The first one, the guy was alone in the slot without another even close to him. Tough on the goalie.
-The second, Wey got turned around, allowed a shot, while screening Milner on a sweet shot about the right shoulder.
-PK was it's usual self. Killing a 5 on 3, and not even allowing any shots on the rest of the PPs. Suffocating is a good word.
If York coaches them up like he usually does, and guys like Arnold, Mullane, Hayes, Carey, Wey, and the freshman step up this team has a chance to do some real damage. Obviously there are some things to work on, as the PP was meh and the offense took a while to get going. I am excited for this year, the team looks like it may not even skip a beat with all the departures.
