Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

Strange story today on KJ Tiefenwerth, on USHR. Maybe this opens up a spot for Cam Darcy.

Also, Hokydad (or anyone else), is Evan Richardson hurt? I saw he only played in one game to start the year for Powell River of the BCHL. Thanks.

Tiefenwerth has been committed for what 3 years now? Did the story give any reasons why he decommitted (I don't have a subscription)?

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

If I had to guess he may have seen the writing on the wall, look at BC's next 2 recruiting classes. Silk, Vatrano, Cangelosi, Fitzgerald, McGlynn, and Richardson alone at forward. Plus with the Cam Darcy rumors coming thats 7 top end forwards along with the Gaudreau, Linell, Straight, Spiro, and Smith. Looks like a bit of a logjam if you ask me. These 2 next recruiting classes are going to be absurd. That's not even looking at the defense which is even more ridiculous.

Solid balanced scoring tonight.

Who scores 20 goals for BC this year?

Smart money says Kreider, but who else? Cam Atkinson went from 7 his freshman year to 30 his sophomore year. Not expecting that, but who is going to bust out this year?

According to the USHR article, BC was no longer interested. BC told him they would honor his scholarship but he would never play hockey at BC.

When the next player leaves BC in a bind for MJ, remember this headline. Jerry's kevlar isn't quite as strong now as it was yesterday.

Players have already bolted on their commitment to BC in the past...for MJ. Kenny Ryan, Shea, etc. It happens. Other situations with players like Chris McCarthy and Cody Ferriero...the players claim they don't feel the love. The situation with Tiefenwerth presents an entirely different side, that's for sure. Doesn't look good on BC on the surface, but when you look deeper, it could be a lot worse.

The best part of the article was the last tidbit. This is gonna happen when you recruit 15 year old players. I don't like the fact 15 year old kids are recruited and I obviously don't like situations like this. However, his scholarship would have been honored. Rather than have him show up and not get any ice time and seek a transfer, at least now he can go ahead and move on--find another home. By all accounts he will and it will be a better situation for him. I wish him nothing but the best. The writing was on the wall here as his arrival was always a bit of an unknown.

I'd stick to fantasizing about UConn football. Or maybe worrying about your own terrible coach.

What is there to be angry over? BC was willing to honor a valuable scholarship to an awesome school to a kid, even if he wasn't going to play hockey. It's not like they said, oh we have better players, go screw. The gave him options, which is more than most schools do during recruiting.

Pretty **** cool if you ask me. 4 stars for 4 national titles like they do for World Cup titles in soccer.

Steven Whitney gets 20. Guy is a pure sniper. His 5th goal was just an awesome snipe.

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

This is for JD, my thoughts from the game:
-BC jumped out of the gate real quick, getting a few shots. But they looked like a team that hadn't played a game yet for the rest of the first. Sloppy to start.
-Cleaned it up in the second, and looked solid.
-Came out slow in the third, with MSU pressuring to tie it.
-But once they tied it, BC responded immediately taking the lead again and dominating the rest of the way.
-Game may have been close for 2 periods on the scoreboard, but it wasn't close. Final score reflected the play.
-This team is so **** deep and has 3 lines that can score.
-That is not a slight at the 4th line either, Brown got the first goal of the game, and they look to be a very good checking line.
-Kreider is a beast. He was clearly the best player on the ice and it wasn't really close.
-It seems like his strength and skating have both improved. The commentators on the feed mentioned how he was like a freight train out there, unable to be moved or stopped once he got going.
-Cross was his usual self out there, letting nothing by him in the defensive zone while contributing in the offensive end. His work on the PP was impressive.
-I am already loving the Almeida-Hayes-Carey line. All 3 of them just battled all night, they are VERY strong along the boards and have a lot of skill.
-Straight was solid, he clearly looked like he was adjusting to the college game in the first two periods, but looked very good with Kreider in the third.
-I was somewhat disappointed in Arnold, while Kreider was dominating, Straight was playing alright, I just didn't see Arnold doing much.
-Johnny Gadreau is going to be great. Gerbe comparisons seem to be very apt. He didn't contribute on the scoreboard, but certainly played well.
-Mullane was his usually self. Always going 200%, he made a slick steal and pass on the Whitney goal.
-Whitney is a pure sniper. Looks to be a better goal scorer than Joe.
-PP stuggled to start the game. However, looked much smoother as the game went on.
-Danny Linnell surprised me as well, he was always around the puck when he was on the ice and I didn't see him make any mistakes.
-Dumoulin is so smooth, wasn't talked about much tonight because he didn't do much on offense, but the fact that his name was never mentioned in the D zone is good.
-MacLeod is another one who wasn't mentioned much, which was a good thing.
-Wey had a UGLY game. Both goals were on him. Just awful defense on both. He left a guy alone in the slot then got turned around on the second goal.
-The defense overall was very good, save for Wey. If he improves (which I expect because it was probably his worst game I have seen here at BC) that unit will be lights out.
-Milner was very solid. Didn't see a lot of action and there wasn't a whole lot he could do on both the goals.
-The first one, the guy was alone in the slot without another even close to him. Tough on the goalie.
-The second, Wey got turned around, allowed a shot, while screening Milner on a sweet shot about the right shoulder.
-PK was it's usual self. Killing a 5 on 3, and not even allowing any shots on the rest of the PPs. Suffocating is a good word.

If York coaches them up like he usually does, and guys like Arnold, Mullane, Hayes, Carey, Wey, and the freshman step up this team has a chance to do some real damage. Obviously there are some things to work on, as the PP was meh and the offense took a while to get going. I am excited for this year, the team looks like it may not even skip a beat with all the departures.

Thx

I guess I could see whitney scoring 20 but i'd bet on around 15. He just needs to be reminded to shoot.

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

Anyway, I'm thinking 4-3 UND tonight but would be pleasantly surprised with a win. Will be at the bruins game so hopefully I don't end up dvring a special on the world's largest outdoor cocktail party

That's what I was thinking. I'm happy he stayed out of the box last night. With some hard work he can really do some serious damage.

Arnold and Almeida are also good candidates. Lots of guys capable of stepping up. Last night's box score is about what you'd expect from this team, a lot of different guys will be contributing on different nights. That will make BC tough to match up against.

Eaglefan06, when Danny Linell commited, there was a statement on USHR, that he is the fastest player on the ice. Of course, this was when he was in prep school. How fast is he? As fast as Cam Atkinson? Kreider?

I don't really know. He didn't have a chance to showcase his speed last night. I'll look for it tonight.

I'd stick to fantasizing about UConn football. Or maybe worrying about your own terrible coach.

It's a two way street, no doubt. I am a big BC hockey fan....it's just the next time that Jerry throws a schollie to a kid, the kid will wonder what that really means. This is reality (Jerry is not alone in "re-negging"), but Jerry's halo effect takes a hit, no?

Harvard is in a different bind, in that they can offer a kid at 15, but it is a hollow offer...if the kid doesn't have the test scores, than see ya.

Good luck to BC this season.

Not a UConn fan, just someone who isn't blind. We will see where UConn & BC football are in 5 yrs...kind of like BC & UConn basketball 25 yrs ago.

UConn's athletic department is just way more aggressive & committed than BCs. UConn has made the commitment and it's just a matter of time before they leapfrog BCs football program.....
