Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

His style is certainly similar.

You piqued my curiosity so I went back to 2001.
Kobasew frosh (only) season was 3rd in scoring with 27 goals, 22 assists, 49 points (Behind Gionta 33-21-54 and Kolanos 25-25-50).
Led the team in game winning goals (10).
First in PPG (14)
1 Shortie and 1 Hat Trick

That was one HeII of a freshman season. Not to mention HE Tournament MVP and Rookie of the Year, IIRC.

Check out the stats for that team. Holy Crap!
2000-2001 Team Stats

Kobasew's knack for getting the clutch goals was unreal that year. Starting with that game at Harvard over Thanksgiving break when another all-time clutch guy, Mike Lephart, tied the game with the goalie pulled before Kobasew won it in overtime.

From there he grabbed the GWG in the Beanpot opener and then another goal vs. BU in the Beanpot final.

Back at the Garden again he got the GWG vs. UML in the HE semis.

We all know what he did in the Frozen Four.

But I still maintain his biggest goal was the GWG against Maine in the Centrum. It was 3rd period, Maine had just cheated to tie it up (shocking) by slashing the stick out of Orpik's hands and then swept his stick into the corner intentionally, and then Chuckles just surprised Yeats with a laser top shelf with a full head of steam. Losing to that maggot Walsh was a real possibility that day and God knows what would have happened if not for that goal. He scored, Walsh cried, got booted, BC scored again and the rest is history. I put it up there with the OT goal by Whitney vs. Miami in that same building as it was not necessarily what won BC a national title but they never get to the FF without it and was a huge hurdle to get over to get there.

HT to BCWH superfan Joe who I heard this from first, but apparently rumors are swirling through the Twitter machine that the NU @ BC game on 1/14 is being moved to Fenway??

Conte did rock back then with lots of students (we are getting similar student numbers recently). The entire upper section behind the visitors bench was a sea of gold superfan shirts.
For the Maine, UNH and BU games the place was SRO and absolutely electric. The talent on the top 4 teams was really something.

And for about 4-6 years, the student section REALLY rocked. There was one student that wore leder hosen who would lead the student sections in the EAGLE chant. The Noise Meter on the big screen today cannot hold a candle to this kid. He could make the building tremble.

At crucial points of the game, he would run down to the big open area at the concourse level behind the BC bench. I suppose some students new he was going down there to start THE CHANT as a low rumble would start in the crowd when he appeared on the platform. He would look up to the 2nd level student section across from him and raise and swing his arms to get their full attention. The noise would grow louder as more students realized what was going on. Once he had a good roar going, he'd look down to the students behind the left goal, raise and swing his arms and get them roaring. Then he'd do the same at the goal to his right and get those students roaring. Then, one last time to the big student section across the way, and not until he had each student section absolutely roaring, would he start the chant.

He would contort his body in the shape of the letters and the students would respond to each letter in a deafening chant...

Eagles! Eagles! Eagles!

It was awesome and very, very loud.
I know this was discussed on these threads a few years back and some students actually tried to get the EAGLE chant going again, but it never really took off with the students. I'd love to see someone try it again. There's very good student attendance right now and it just might take off.

This kid also lead the CHANT at the Beanpot and HE Tournament games at the Garden with great success. Used to really pizz off the opposing fans (judging from the comments on this forum). :p

That kid was gone by 2001; as I think I saw him once or twice in my 4 years (99-03). Of course we had bobby Allen's cousin doing the exact same thing u described. He was the little kid in the cat in the hat hat

And yes, it got very loud. Way Past bapst library on the noise meter!

Disgusting

agree and if it was to happen it should be NU's home game but we host them twice this year and alreadly played there. I guess because the ice will already be down they want to maximize the use of it? ..and on the Fenway thing, why wasn't Northeastern involed in the one already scheduled with UNH and Maine? or were they not because this was in the works??

and very interesting about conte back 10-15 years ago, i wish i had got the bug earlier:mad:

With hockey's resurgence in popularity among BC students (certainly aided by the Bruins, as well as BC's recent teams) the potential is there for Conte to rock again. There's just kind of a misallocation of fan resources right now, I think. You've got the craziest fans usually sitting behind the net BC shoots at. The band, which is ideally a lynchpin and provides energy for everyone to feed off of, is at the other end. And the balcony section has the highest volume of students, when full.

Sitting in section OO now as an Adult with claver2010 and others, it's striking how all the chants come at you "in stereo" because they're never coordinated (and there's not enough of a critical mass of diehard fans in any one section of the rink to get new things going).

I know it's basically not even feasible anymore, but if they could ever either put all the students together, or at least have all the behind-the-net seats on the same end while keeping the balcony its own thing, it would make a huge difference.

There's a lot of energy in Conte so far this year, it's just kind of disjointed.

I give a lot of credit to BC gameday operations for the improved atmosphere too, btw. Little things like more transparent netting, the new scoreboards, the foghorn, awesome intro videos, etc. have really fired up the crowds, which seem to be at their biggest level in years.

Let some other school have the privilege of standing outside in the middle of winter to watch hockey on crappy ice with worse sightlines.

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

Don't underestimate our Black Bears. It's true we have some unforgiving fans but the core of our fans support the program and we have a great group of talented players and experienced coaching. We will give you guys a fight that's for sure.
Go Black Bears!

I'm not going to Fenway for that. If this happens, I better be getting a refund for my ticket.

I expect a really tough game on Friday night. Maine seems to be playing pretty well and if BC doesn't bring its A+ game they are not good enough yet to beat a team like Maine by virtue of just showing up.

Of course, I'd love to see a repeat of January 2010, when BC seemed to treat home vs. Maine as a crucial game, came out flying, and blew Maine's doors off in the first period. That was one of my favorite home games in recent memory.

First, why would it HAVE to be NU's home game? bc hosts twice this year so it makes sense that it be one of your home games. I would agree with you that it wasn't fair but I am sure it was something that bc had to agree to give up a "home" game. If coach york and the eagles staff were so concerned about losing a "home" game I am guessing they could deny the plan. Honestly my estimate of NU to bc fans is around 30% NU to 70% bc so it will essentially be a home game for bc anyways. It will be great for the city and great for hockey east, a very easy sellout. On your other point, wildcats v black bears is the second biggest rivalry in HE after bc bu so it shouldnt be a surprise that was the matchup they created. All of this makes sense for HE, for bc? I'm not so sure but what's done is done.

I actually strongly disagree that this will be an easy sellout if it's just standalone NU vs. BC with no doubleheader.

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

Has anyone been able to find any kind of confirmation of even the rumor of this? Other than rumblings on Twitter I haven't found anything...

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

Will probably be half full. BC fans already experienced this with a far better matchup. Don't think there will be much buzz for this game from a BC fan perspective. Game vs. NU in a venue we just played in 2 yrs ago.

As far as I'm concerned, it's all about what Coach York wants. If he thinks (or knows) it will help this program in any way, he's ok with it and signed off on it and I'm cool with that. God knows BC won the title after playing in Fenway so... maybe it's good luck. I know a lot of people that won't like it, though. I'm not bringing my 4 year old out to Fenway for 3 hours and doubt my parents will want to go. And for other reasons I doubt the wife will want to go so 4 of my 5 season tix won't be used or I will have to sell.

LAME if true.

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

I can see it now. They completely ignore the fact BC fans already have tickets to the game and they go ahead and sell completely different tickets...

because BC already had to give a home game up for one of these things and i thought we'd be done with it after BU. i understand it makes more sense for us to host THIS YEAR because there are 2 home games vs NU which makes me believe that this may have been discussed only recently. The BC-BU game was great for the city and HE and no offense but this one is only great for NU and their fans, IMO. I get the Maine-UNH thing as the marquee matchup for this january but you are down the street, to me it made no sense for NU to NOT be in the other game .............but they sold all the tickets so what do i know? personally, i am with JD, i doubt i will go ...........

As for the luck thing. Experiencing the crap ice at Fenway helped in the FF cause it was made by the same company.

Agreed. Cause there will be so few tickets where you can actually see the ice & those will be through the roof. Not going to get cheaper seats to see half the ice and freeze my ***** off sorry.

FYI, Nu was involved last year and stupidly chose to send their women's team.
