BOSTON COLLEGE 2025 - 2026

Certainly not going to compare him to eichel or macklin…. But zegras and Keller both went after one year where they were not as impressive as hagens 🤔
Mookie can see him sitting down with Sweeney and saying “I know I am ready… but tell me what you think.”
Would the don tell him to go back to school?
Did the nhl and nhlpa change that rule with rights being held through 3 years, but then if the player doesn’t sign he can be a fa? Being drafted after his freshman year that would get him through his sr season. Could allow him to win back to back Hobey bakers, then go sign with his hometown islanders 💁🏾
But that may have all been changed…mookie isn’t sure
hagens has been very good but there were 4 better on this team 2 years ago, a lot better and only cutter lightingit up. How many BC (bc) players have been better than this kid with less acclaim in the last 25 years? LOTS. Definitely not as good as we thought. Needs to stay but prolly wont. 😎

Hagens slid to 7th for a reason. Bruins fans are mongos (at last the online crew) and think they got a steal for a kid that was #1 overall in the rankings a year prior to the draft and that he's the key to this year's playoff push lol. He may develop into a monster and be a draft bargain long-term but he's not even close to there yet. As Sterlippo states, if we rank the guys that came through BC in the last 25 years, he'd have many many many players on top of him on the list and we'd basically just remember, "oh yea, the wraparound goal against Bentley where Leonard had a MONSTER shift" (seriously go back and watch him on that shift it's incredible).

I think he had a good season and increased production without Leonard and Perreault which is encouraging. I'd have to really dig through box scores on the assist side of things but I think he feasted on the PP like some other guys. 5-on-5 was kind of meh especially down the stretch. Nice point total but didn't dominate in any sense. It is what it is.

As far as the Bruins go for this year, Reichel was just brought up and scored a goal in his first game and drew a penalty shot yesterday. He's another first rounder, he's a left shot like Hagens, but he is 23 and has 190 games of NHL experience. That complicates things a lot for those in Hagens' camp as of right now.

Last Monday morning report of this God forsaken season...

Don't have the energy for an in -depth post-mortem right now. This was all very predictable and the program is clearly trending downward. Changes are needed. We all know this, the merrymen can cope however they want.

What wasn't predictable was Merrimack! WOW. Congrats to RENCEB (and somewhere REDMEN... and I can't even remember one of the other guys I knew that would join us at HE tournament gatherings).

What made Merrimack special? Like UMass and Yukon, they have good coaches that brought a team of men and a good goalie to the Garden. BC has none of those things. That's all you need to have a shot. BC had no chance. That's the reality.

Dean4Hobey 2027.

I did the work on this just now. Not knocking him in any way just factual information. I took out PP points and points from ENGs.

25 of his 47 points were PP/ENG
22 points seemed to be even strength (although one of those was an assist on the 3x3 OT goal by Gustafsson)

Multi-point EV games were against RPI (2), Notre Dame (3), Harvard (2). 54, 51, and 32 in the final NPI rankings, respectively.

He was +10 on the year, 2nd best on the team behind Minnetian who was +15.

Minnetian logged 28+ minutes on Friday night and is an incredibly talented player and will have a long NHL career. If he signs a pro contract Greg Brown is going to be in DEEP next season.

Interesting points - and admittedly I have only seen Hagens in a few games (although he looked good when saw him) - the trade for Reichel does probably complicate things as he seems to be slotted for the 3rd line center. (which is probably where Hagens would naturally go).

Perhaps this is partly why we have not heard news yet (when initially all the media was making it out to be a definite).

Agree on Minnetian, the guy was at times spectacular (as a defensemen) but always very steady. Hagens is a good forward and at times very slick with the puck, he was the center of attention for the other team but he did not take over the game like Lenny would. Hope he stays but expecting he will go. BC will reload and have a good team but as we have just seen college hockey is extremely competitive now, 2 year cycles and the portal and the CHL have changed everything. I am of the age that wants kids to stay for 4 years, think Gionta, Boyle, Cotton. (JY said he was the best Captain he ever had in his career) Gasseau, Jellvik Gustafson. Those days are gone for all the signature programs. Look forward to next year, college hockey is the best sports entertainment value in Boston. Enjoy it.

Doing the same analysis for Conmy:
27 points this season. 14 were PP/ENGs. 13 EV points (one was 4x4). As was pointed out, only 3 of his 9 goals were even strength goals with a goaltender between the pipes.

fitting end to a frustratingly inconsistent season. team never really put it together 5 on 5 even with the talent. what a lost season for stiga, who somehow escaped the wrath.

hard to go that far when you get the goaltending they did. at least they stuck to their rep of absolutely moronic penalties through the end, led by gasseau with 2 or 3 on friday.

have to assume hagens is gone but if the bruins aren't going to burn a year of ELC, there's zero reason to be riding the busses of providence over the next couple of weeks.

much for brown & crew to sort through over the next several months.

Stiga's issues were documented quite a bit and IIRC a terrible turnover cost them a game (PC maybe?).

How about Sondreal? 1g, 1a in the entirety of 2026 and pointless in the last 13 games. And like Stiga, I think he's a good hockey player. Why can't the coaches get more out of these guys? (Stiga drew two penalties on Friday night)

The team finally got healthy and they got WORSE?! And Brown wants us to believe all this jumbling of line combinations was really the problem? JFC. Jellvik came back and they went 1-5. It's pretty incredible. "Do these guys practice" has become a legitimate question for two years now.

A disclaimer that I have not heard one iota of this mentioned anywhere, this is just me thinking out loud, but in this current era of the transfer portal is anyone else concerned that a guy like Stiga coming off a disappointing season considers sticking his toes in that water and looking if there might be a better opportunity elsewhere?

Bruins get their way and Hagens heads for Providence
Same path they took with McAvoy- called him up quickly though
Think right now don't want to upset nhl roster

I read it as the Brunis don't want to let him burn one of his ELC years - but could call him up if his performance in Providence makes them think he could help in a playoff run (if they even make the playoffs).... (in other words the Bruins trying to be "frugal")

I wouldn't. They've been pretty good since New Year's Eve (most of their losses have been productive and come with a point attached) and quite frankly a lot of the pleasant surprises have been the depth forwards and the addition of Reichel does change the game here quite a bit. And you still have Poitras in the organizational depth chart too.

Who knows what kind of gentleman's agreement came with this contract but he's going to have to earn it. Jacobs wants that extra beer money. And he may not be NHL ready. Let's see what he does in Providence.

Maybe a dumb question… But where he signed an amateur tryout contract… Could that possibly leave the window open for him returning to the college game?

It's a narrow path with a lot of stipulations but moot anyway since he's not coming back

He is not slide-eligible so any signing of an ELC will burn a year. This is the right call by the Bruins (78% likely to make the playoffs as of this morning) and gives them all sorts of options still for this season with regard to Hagens depending on injuries and how they navigate these last few games of the season. Not as great for Hagens IF he doesn't burn a year this season but it is what it is.

Interesting there has been no talk of Letourneau?

Edit: Actually just saw an interview with Sweeney that Letourneau will return to BC next year!
