BOSTON COLLEGE 2025 - 2026

It was a good game, terrific defense, for the most part, blocked a lot of shots but lost too many Dzone face offs. There were stretches were Maine were buzzing but they couldn't score. The time out was really necessary as they were gassed. Hagen's first goal was textbook PP, what a shot. Face offs are this team's achilles heel. I love Rezendes, his goal was just inspired and much needed, but he has to dial back the penalties. Most of them are of undisciplined variety. His penalty cost them a goal. BC will need to bring it tonight because Barr was not in a good mood at the end of the game and he let them know it. He was pretty animated after Hagen's second goal. Th injury adversity has really helped bring them together and forced other players to step up.

Bad turnover right in front and Maine is up 1. Then while the pp three BC denders bunch up in the corner and it is 2 nothing. Terrible first period. Second wasn't a lot better. WIth a 2-0 lead Maine is just trapping in the neutral zone. Need a goal early because Maine is playing their game and BC is not able to break through and open it up. Still 20 minutes left, lot of hockey left.

Sad night all around and hope Langlois is ok. The Eagles played like a bunch of Turkeys tonight.

Moore (-3) and Minnetian (-2) were ghastly all night and their failed connection on the first Maine goal gift-wrapped an early goal for Maine and it went downhill from there for both of them. Not a great idea making that pass but Moore also should have been ready for it. They weren't ready to play. Moore then took a nap while a Maine man on the PK went in 1-on-3 and left the backdoor wide open for a tap-in. And then another 1-on-3 resulted in a rebound flying right past Minnetian. Felt bad for Cloutier who made some insane saves in the 2nd period to keep it tight(ish); he had no chance on all 3 goals.

Faceoffs remain a massive unsolved problem. I believe at one point they lost 12 in a row and were down to about 20% for the night but then won some and got it up into the 30% range. Stopped keeping track once it became garbage time. This team started the night 51st in the country and will surely drop another spot or two. It's extremely difficult to be this bad at faceoffs. Hagens was 31% and Berard went 0 for 5.

It's tough to sweep and get a full 6 points and the 5-game win streak was fun and got BC back into the conversation for maybe a chance at getting chumped in the NCAAs again by a team that can win faceoffs. Some big games coming up in the meantime, Friday game against Notre Dame (5th in the country in faceoffs) is a big one against a B1G team and the WMU matchup over the break (and possible Wisconsin matchup should they somehow win) are going to be big as well. Either way, they need to clean things up considerably and worry about Friday's game.

Hopefully they can close out the semester with 3 wins, Notre Dame & UML. 10-5-1 would not be bad after the horrendous 2-4-1 start. Nice 5-game ends but time to start another streak. Maine did the right thing starting Rousseau and they were obviously ready after last night and got off to a quick 2-0 lead thanks to BC's gaffs at the beginning of the game Friday's game is a 1:00 PM start FYI.

Disappointing for sure, two gift wrapped goals in the first allowed Maine to play rope a dope for the rest of the game. BC did not seem ready to play and when the difference between the teams is so small the effort has to be there for the whole game. Last night the four HE teams that won the first game of the week end lost, very tough to sweep in this league.

It was a good battle both ways. I think both of these teams will rise over the course of the season. I’m betting they will play again in the post season. BC will get a boost once Gasseau gets back. #2 and #29 are giants, fun to see those big guys out there. #2 a tad slow but will likely get better as he adjusts to the speed of the game.

I give these guys credit for dusting themselves off and putting a win streak together in what looked like a difficult month with major players out. They need to get through the end of the year in as best shape as possible. Interestingly they seem to still control their own destiny in league play and have the 2nd best shot of anyone to win the regular season (which would be on point for Brown).

The faceoff problem will simply not go away and I'm not sure how you solve it. As others have pointed out it's almost impossible to be this bad at faceoffs. And as we know from experience, there's basically a 0% chance of winning championships in a tournament with this problem. Gasseau is normally a >50% faceoff guy so there will be some improvement when he comes back in January(?). Looking at stats Posma was a >50% guy the past two season so losing him seems to have made things worse as well. Either way it's bad but becomes less fatal if you can get closer to 50%

There is a good amount of things to be positive about. Imagine Jellvik and Gasseau come back and BC potentially adds in this Oscar Hemming kid from Finland for the second semester. That would be a wild infusion of talent up front and they have plenty on the backline. Cloutier has been getting better. PP has been good with Conmy on the off-wing doing what he does (he has also been playing better lately). And the "role players" are pretty friggin good.

Interesting season so far, they had been lacking mojo for well over a season but the feel-good stretch of getting goals from Traeger, Joyce, and Davey in three straight games seemed to maybe spark something in the room and kept it going through Friday with a 7-goal performance. Yes the Minnetian pass was bad but he's been great this season so just need to learn from it. Against Maine, it was basically game over 90 seconds in to the game and the SHG goal was equally horrendous.

Any update on the Maine player? That was scary.

Agree on all points and we can't be too hard on Minnetian, he makes good plays and good decisions every night. GB said he and Moore did not make eye contact before the pass. When you go down 2-0 it is tough to recover. The Maine goalie was more than good. Need to buckle up and win the next 3 which they should be able to do. Still have a lot of belief in this team and GB. Not sure how far they can go but with good goaltending down the stretch they may surprise a few people.

Well, the boys went 6-1 in month of November in what had looked like a rough month coming all without two key healthy offensive cogs. 2 road wins at UVM, a sweep of UMass (last place), a home split with Maine and a win over a B1G opponent which is always important to win (and helps the league).

This game wasn't easy and even though BC vastly outplayed ND it seemed like this game could always flip in ND's favor at any moment. The Skahan goal really helped settle them down when they tied it up after chasing that 1-0 ND lead for over 20 minutes. And it was important to get the tie back within a minute of going down 2-1.

Joyce had the bad turnover/penalty that put BC behind early in the game but he had a ridiculous assist to Dean and that really helped turn the game in BC's favor so credit to him for coming back and getting it back.

Credit to Gustafsson he was great and also laid some big hits when ND starting throwing the body around and it was a boost for BC and put ND on notice.

Faceoffs seemed better but still weren't great. One goal against was very shortly after ND won an Ozone faceoff.

Hagens is ripping it, his shot off the bar for the hat trick was gross. Dean is throwing his weight around down low and drawing all sorts of attention and it's helping Hagens find real estate and open ice to wheel and deal. They work well together. Dean had 3 points this afternoon, the same as he had all season last year. A completely different player this year. He has 14 points in 14 games, just 2 points less than Hagens.

Moore was 8-5 on faceoffs and he's looking like he's close to breaking out. I look for him to possibly have a good second semester.

Sondreal has been everywhere this season and has been flat out great.

Skahan was +4, Gustafsson +3. Minnetian once again was great. Radivojevic has also been very good for a freshman at the position; he has a bit of JD Forrest in him.

Cloutier with another game-changing moment pulling the puck off the goal line. He stood tall early when BC had a ton of shots but ND was getting some great chances.

UMass-Lowell coming up. They are not great but always tough to play against. I'd like to see BC look and play the part and put them away early both nights and get another 6 points. That would be an ideal way of going into the break before an extremely critical game against WMU.

Looking ahead…Teddy Mutryn is killing it for Moncton in the qmjhl right now. Leading rookies for goals. Moncton had Caleb Desnoyers who was a top 5 pick in the draft last year, but has only played 11 games for Moncton so far this year. Interestingly, one other rookie for Moncton in Rian Chudzinski, who is committed to BU for hockey, but I think is related to a guy on the BC football team.

Good game for Hagens, Minnetian and Cloutier. Loutourneau's goal was really nice, heads up pass from Joyce right on DL's stick, he waited a second with the puck and roofed it, top corner. Great pass and better shot. Minnetian logs a lot of minutes and he made some great defensive plays. Overall good win, in front of a full house. Wins this week end will put them in a pretty good position going into the break.
