BOSTON COLLEGE 2025 - 2026

BC is reportedly the landing spot for Oscar Hemming, potential 1st round pick this year who has been given the runaround by his Finnish club over a contract dispute as he has tried to play with Kitchener of the OHL. It's a very long saga- I go over the details in the CHL recruiting thread I have- but the latest update is that he is currently fast-tracking his academic requirements in order to join NCAA in early 2026. He's a great talent but has lost the entire season so far to a lot of unfortunate posturing and spite, and the IIHF blocked his attempt to play in the BCHL by threatening 3 year sanctions, so this is the new path.

Reinforcements might be arriving in january. He may be 17, but he's 6'4, 194, plays physical, shooter, moves well, battles hard. Draft rankings have him in the 20s, but Button has him as high as 10. His brother Emil went 29th in 2024 to Dallas, Oscar is similar to him but considered more physical, potentially with higher upside.

My question is how does BC roster another player during the season? Aren't schools that opted in to the new agreement limited to 26 players?

What are the official rules on this new roster limitation (and where might one find them)?

I assume they could simply drop Davey or Delay from the roster and add someone to remain at 26 but if it is something that is locked in as of a certain date (Oct 1st?) then that cuts off any program that started with a full 26 from adding anyone in the second semester.

I have had a sense after the bad start that the staff would look to add after Christmas.

Maybe the rules allow only 26 players to play so if someone does not play, they could be replaceable. The rules state only 26 full scholarships and 26 active players on the roster. There could be 2 half scholarship players allowing an additional scholarship and taking a player off the active roster would allow a player to come in. I doubt anyone would be removed without agreeing to it, but it is possible a season ending injury would allow one to be removed from the active roster.

I can't say it with certainty but I was under the impression that there were no changes allowed. The 26 you start with was your roster for the year. Thinking about it makes me wonder how the limit of 26 was arrived at?

There is a grandfather clause for players that were already on the roster. They don’t get cut by the 26 player cap. If you look at rosters in hockey east BC has 26, providence has 25, and all other teams have between 27 and 30 players. So I don’t think it’s an issue for BC. When all the grandfathered players use their full eligibility the 26 player cap will be absolute.

This is true- However if on scholarship the rules might be different- can't give 27 scholarships
The BU situation is interresting. They I think are only school that didn't sign the agreement so might not be limited by roster limit but still might only
be offering 18 scholarships- Other ways to make up that difference

Ran those dirtbags out of the building without 2 top 6 forwards. Will need to do it without 3 top 6 forwards tomorrow unless Jellvik can go.

The Dean train rolls on and Traeger, who's been quietly good in his shifts the past few seasons, gets his first career goal.

This was an azz-kicking and the 7-3 score didn't do it justice. I'm encouraged and feel maybe they turned a corner but they have a huge uphill battle given the bad start.

They were good and getting better. Luka was solid and Hagens the younger is coming into his own. The move to pass the puck to himself with the skate was eye opening, didn't score but it was inspired.

Man this is a feel-good two weeks for BC hockey after a rough OCtober. In 3 straight games we got first career goals from Joyce, Traeger, Davey. CRAZY!

The defense really did their thing this weekend and just had good structure and frustrated UMass. Opportunistic offense (without a PP tonight!) and solid D is the template for this team. The offense will come and it will get easier to generate when the injured forwards start coming back. This is a hell of a win on the road without 3 top forwards and without a single PP.

Biggest surprise aside from Davey scoring was that BC won a faceoff and scored directly on the shot from the point. Sondreal had several great chances before finally get his two goals. Letourneau is really coming into his own with that power move behind the net to set up Sondreal on the other post.

UMass with several questionable hits this weekend, including a cheap shot on Traeger with 30 seconds left in the game tonight. I'd like to see the league office get their heads out of their rear-ends and take a look at this.

Good pair of wins, everyone stepped up to fill in for the missing forwards. Last night was a team building excercise. Nice to see them stand up for the chaep shot on Treager at the end of the game. League office needs to review that one closely. Very gritty win against a good team. BC was the better team for most of the 6 periods. The bandwagon jumpers are welcome back, still a lot of hockey to go before the break but I like their chances against Maine

Agree, it's been a good last two weeks, but we need to make sure we don't get ahead of ourselves and keep in mind the hill they've set themselves up to climb with their non-league performance. And all Hockey East teams are hindered by the league's collective faceplant in non-conference games this year. What a difference one season makes...

Greg Brown with the York-like timeout really worked out, gotta give credit to him there, calmed them down got the tired guys a breather and a quick goal right after that.

Another kinda bad penalty by Resendes at the end that allowed Maine to make it 4-3 and got some blood pressures rising among the fanbase but that Maine player really sold it and I'm embarrassed for him. Regardless he had a heck of a goal and has serious speed.

Not sure if this was by design or Maine players just couldn't help themselves but every time they got momentum and were playing downhill their D would make an awful pinch. Happened all game long and I can't believe they didn't adjust. Of course, BC is going to convert on a bunch of those.

Conmy has been coming on. He's making better decisions with the puck, he's a shooter, dish it and get open and wait for it to come back. Sondreal/Resendes playing well. The depth is there with this squad. BC's missing two upper classmen Bruins draft picks and hasn't missed a beat. They are finding combinations by necessity which I think is helpful. Michael Hagens moving to forward has been another move by necessity and he looks great as a forward, a new Marty Hughes/Brett Peterson type (Ales Dolinar?)?

Cloutier was solid. Outplayed Boija by a mile.

Faceoffs were terrible early on (felt like it got better in the 3rd but IDK) but BC did generate another goal off of a faceoff win by Sondreal on the PPG by Letourneau.

I thought Minnetian had a hell of a game. The D in general all battled and played well. Radivojevic had a nice game and great pass to Conmy to really put the game away. More guys being forced into action on D and it's going to only help down the line.

Fowler making the big hit on Letourneau and running his mouth woke this team up. Thanks Owen.

BU lost again. Womp womp.

Yes, Brown's timeout reminded me of the one Jerry took in overtime in that 2008 regional final vs. Miami.

BC lucky to win even though the score was 7-3. Lots of blocked shots or deflections and the post helped BC tonight. Need to improve the breakout and puck control in their own end and cut down on the turnovers & errant passes. Hopefully they fix that tomorrow night. With a 3-0 lead they should have put the nail in the coffin. Cloutier made some clutch saves when it counted and prevent Maine from tying it up.
On the Maine PP, the D has. to clear the front of the net.

Your team played great in all facets. I was most impressed by your defensemen in front of their own net. They were nasty and did well clearing guys out. They also blocked an assload of shots. I do think a major difference was the goaltending. Cloutier was solid, Boija gave up a few softies which isn’t like him. Hoping for a closer match tomorrow.

The positive during this streak is production from different lines. Last year there was too much pressure on the top line for offense and it cost them. Guys like Letourneau and Sondreal etc contributing to the overall team offense. Breaking up lines and reassigning guys to make different line combos is working so far.
