Another interesting one. I guess at the end of the day you should just be happy to get the road W but I am conflicted greatly about this team. Gutsy final 40 minutes though without 3 very good regulars.

First period was a disaster in every way. This team has a discipline problem and I get the sense Brown can't control it. Perreault and Leonard should not be taking the penalties they do. The quality of the broadcast wasn't great and I got the sense something precipitated the nonsense in the corner (likely with people taking liberties with Leonard) that got Perreault in there and ejected but you just need to be smarter about all of this post-whistle nonsense. The Skahan goal was basically out of nowhere but right off of a FACEOFF WIN by Letourneau. They were lucky to even get that goal after the first period.

After that, the turning point was the ability to kill the 5 min major fairly easily and they picked it up after that.

Shamburger was back in and his penalty was bad and led to a goal and I think as Nick said, maybe he played his way out of the lineup. Need to do something to keep these guys from throwing games out the window. Penalties happen but come on.

Leonard could have had 4 goals with the late 3rd period robbery, the goal called back because of his offsides, and I got the sense he forgot he could ice it and take a long shot on the 6x4. He created the chance that drew the slewfoot and that absolutely changed the game. Powerplay goals?!?!?! WHAT?! And sure the James Hagens goal was 5x3 but they won a faceoff and scored immediately again. They were losing these types of faceoffs earlier this season.

Fowler really didn't have much of a chance on the goals. The 3rd one was a beauty and the UVM player absolutely froze him and slid it into the open net. Filthy mitts. That one really made it interesting considering the late Leonard goal was called back and it was 4-3 after two.

Gasseau has stepped up. 3 points for him. And 3 points for Powell. Leonard hit the century mark.

Given the other results around the country you have to be ok with how tonight went. Tomorrow - stay out of the gd box.

All eyes on this ASU/WMU score. Huge PWR implications.

Not a good first period giving up 2 PP goals and then a 5-minute major but they finally woke up

Got to cut down on those penalties
You can get away with it with UVM but not many other teams

They have to sweep tonight and keep their fate in their own hands and a little space with Maine losing and BU losing to NU

no bueno.

season hinges on 3 things IMO:
1) powerplay
2) vote being able to stabilize the 2nd line
3) not getting dominated in faceoffs
I would also add 4) the ability to beat tight forechecking of the opposing team. Any team that gives BC space to set up cannot compete with them. Only those teams with strong forechecking are able to negate it. If they can break that tight forechecking much like basketball breaking the full court press they will be in good shape.

Looks like BC clinched a top 3 spot in the standings with last night's regulation win. A regulation win tonight would clinch the 2 seed by virtue of tiebreaker over BU as they cannot get more than 47 points. If they want to win the RS this is a must-win game tonight.

Nationally BC is up to ~99% for a top 2 seed in the final PWR and their win combined with the MSU tie bumped their chances of the top seed from about 68% to 80%.

It's an interesting bubble this year. UML 64%, UMass 45%, Michigan 73%, Quinnipiac 55%, ASU 44%, Pedd State 29%

Arizona State is a team to watch closely. They beat Western Michigan last night with game two on deck. I believe they also took down Denver at least once and maybe twice.

Anyone know what Manchester did with the NCAA regional tickets? Did they pawn them off to one of the org crime ticket brokers?
TM of course. There is a code that works for $10 off each ticket that expires tonight (code: HOCKEYWEEK). As you are likely aware, the fees are BAD. $70 for a pair with the code, 34.55 for fees. It's a monopoly and this is one instance where these folks should be Luigi'd.

Update:
BC clinched 2 seed in HE.
95% and 4% for #1 and #2 seeds respectively in the NCAA tournament.

Bubble: UML down to 46%, UMass up to 54%, Michigan remains about the same at 72%, Quinnipiac up to 58%, ASU down to 33%, Pedd State up to 51% - that could be interesting to watch as they are hosts in Allentown.

Anyway, BC had a surprisingly strong start from the faceoff dot and that just made life so much easier. They started off 13-2 in period 1, continued a solid stretch into the second period going 12-7 and then went cold 7-14 but the game over by that point.

Gasseau 6 points this weekend; he's on a heater and should be the easy choice for HE POTW, he also had a winning faceoff % this weekend. Perreault hit the century mark. Leonard with a beauty of an assist and goal but took two penalties tonight in the first period, one was fairly late in the period yet again and jeopardized ruining a great first period. Luckily they killed it. Hreschuk was back and solid. The D itself was steady and even though BC was outshot significantly, they really kept them to outside shots that Fowler could see. BC dominated in Grade A chances. The shorthanded goal by Stiga was a big one and that seemed to just get BC rolling. Shammy took another penalty tonight too.

Hope Berard is ok, he got hammered with about 5 mins left. Can't afford any more injuries. BC was not a fan of the hit and that seemed to precipitate the fracas the next time the UVM player stepped on the ice. A bummer though, as the penalties ruined the shutout for Fowler.

Brown should take notice and inform the league that instigating behavior that results in injuries should be severely enforced in not only game ejection but game suspension at the next game. Especially at Leonard who has trouble not retaliating.

Jelvik was injured with only one second left in the period against NU. We criticize BC players for stupid penalties but at the same time there seems to be a problem with refs making sure a game is called even handedly that insures safety and fairness.

I get it BC is a target being a top ranked team but where do you draw the line ? Refs are not perfect but it's important to call a game evenly and controll this type of aggressive behavior that could result in injuries to your top players and end their season. Jelvik looks done for the season.

Seems like BC is locked into Manchester. Is Blake James and the athletic department doing anything to start buying up tickets beyond the school allotment and get buses lined up to bring students to Manchester to fill this building? I assume BC will get the first game (afternoon) and it's a Friday but I'm sure students will find a way to make it up there if the school offers something nice and easy for them to just hop on a bus at Conte... and it's safer (please don't get wasted and puke on a bus). There's a good chance several eastern teams are going to be there and BC has a nice advantage to jump on the opportunity now that UNH's season is dead as these other teams jockey for position and have to wait until selection Sunday. My projections brought in four Eastern teams to Manchester including one large, supremely annoying fanbase. Pike's Peak should also get moving and book the Thirsty Moose right now.

With UNH on tap this weekend and their NCAA hopes dashed, it might seem like they will be a pushover but they will raise a banner if they take down a possible #1 BC so you have to be careful with that. Cannot afford any more injuries. One good thing is they are one of the cleaner programs so I doubt we'll see any thuggery. Speaking of injuries, I re-watched the MTU highlights from Providence and Jellvik really had a heck of a game. He's going to be missed sorely. Need a lot of other guys to step up.
