Re: Bohemian Rap City: Movies Thread

Up late after driving back from Lake Placid so I caught The Meg. Pleased to report it is exactly as awful as you'd expect it to be. Only about a half grade better than a SyFy "made to be terrible" TV movie. Thoroughly enjoyed it but that may have been the Ayinger.

Re: Bohemian Rap City: Movies Thread

The Meg is awesome...it is awful but it is AWESOMELY AWFUL!!

Re: Bohemian Rap City: Movies Thread

I like KISS. Saw them on the Reunion Tour in Saint Paul and their "Farewell" Tour years later. Havent really needed to see them since ;)

I saw KISS on their first reunion tour in '96. My point about KISS was a band that big could tour 20 years to hit EVERY city and call it their last tour. "Last tour" is just an excuse to keep touring, and I dislike that. Do you really need to hit every city you ever hit? ;)

Anyway:
First Man:

About Neil Armstrong's landing, etc. This one swung for the fences, ended up being a solid double, maybe stretching into a triple. Could have been tightened up a bit and not gone 2 hours 21 minutes. The Goose (Ryan Gosling) was solid, as always, and had quite a few "that guys" from various tv shows. Claire Foy (Girl In The Spider's Web) was very good as Neil's wife. It's worth a watch, but I think it got more credit than it deserved, but not by much.

Re: Bohemian Rap City: Movies Thread

If you have a chance to see Apollo 11 I recommend it. I was unable to see it in IMAX, rather a local crappy theater, but it was still captivating. No narration, just the chatter between the crew and mission control (with some news footage with Walter Cronkite) and absolutely visually stunning views from inside the capsule and on the surface of the moon itself. Crowds gathered in fields, on roadways and beaches, packed onto hotel balconies, all for the chance to see the launch. It is inspiring to think we, as a nation and as a species, could achieve so much; and simultaneously so disappointing to see what seemingly little has happened since.

I do want to see that. I did recently see Apollo 13, which I thought was better than First Man.

First Man was alright, but yeah it is super long and well...kind of boring.

Apollo 13 is one of those movies I can't turn off even if I stumble upon it already 50% in.

Full steam ahead on the Netflix teen romcom train.
Today's viewing: The Kissing Booth . Cute romcom with nods to the Breakfast Club. Enjoyable though only one hot guy instead of 2 (like To All the Boys I've Loved Before . Nice to see an empowered teen girl in a teen romcom.

Who is the "hot guy" in The Breakfast Club? Carl?

I'm half curious about that....but if it's too rom-com-ish...I'll pass. The premise looks amusing.

I think you misread my post -- it's the hot guy in the current romcom. Though if I really had to pick one, it would be Judd Nelson (always was a sucker for the bad boy) :o

It's pretty standard for a teen romcom, but it's cute. The ending is way more organic/realistic than most (though reminds me a bit of the ending to Cruel Intentions).

Watched The Dirt based on reviews from here. Yikes! It almost can't be real...but if even half of it is... Despite being a little young for the prime years of Motley Crue, I enjoyed it. I think it helps that I have a thing for 2000s and later Tommy Lee as well as all eras of Nikki Sixx. (My parents were so relieved to meet thecomicbookguy at last and saw that he had no tattoos, piercings, or obvious risk factors for transmitting Hep C just by looking at you).

The Crue story is true. You should read the book; the stuff they left out of the movie....

The Ozzy scene was 100% true. Verified many times over by both camps.

And I hear ya about bad influences. I thought Lita Ford was really hot....until I heard about all the people she was with. *shudder* That's a walking disease right there, given the men she was with. She still rules, but...

Re: Bohemian Rap City: Movies Thread

Saw To Kill A Mockingbird on the big screen. A fantastic movie made even more powerful by size and sound

Re: Bohemian Rap City: Movies Thread

I saw Us tonight. Holy Exposition Dump, Batman. The first 90-100 minutes was great. The ending was absolute garbage. People are over the moon with how awesome it is but I didn't like it at all. I'd give the first two acts an 8.5 and the ending a 3. Overall I'd say a 6.
