And Vince Neil killed someone (and hurt others) drunken driving. Motley Crue are scum...

The book is quite good though.

Oh god...how did I forget Vince Neil drunk driving and...was it the drummer for Hanoi rocks? Yeah, great book, complete scum as people.

Yeah and the car he hit the two people had brain damage from the accident. But hey at least he served 20 of the 30 days...

Re: Bohemian Rap City: Movies Thread

Just saw "The Russian Five", which is pretty clear what the movie is about. It was really well done- lots of fun and "spy v spy" start when they described how the first 3 Russian players made it to the Red Wings. And then changed into a different human story as it covered Konstatinov's accident and how the team reacted to it- ending with the '98 cup.

It's supposed to open this weekend in a handful of theaters- so if you get a chance, go see it.

Saw it today.

I know the tales of backdoor defection and bribing doctors are exciting, but I was surprised and a little disappointed they completely glossed over how Fetisov ended up in the league in the first place with a simple, "the Soviets had started to let the older guys go."

Claude Lemieux still sucks after all these years.

Don Cherry didn't always have the Craig Sager suit game, but he did always have bad opinions.

After seeing this and Of Miracles and Men, I suppose it's time to go watch Red Army.

Yeah, and it bothers me that of all the details in the book this incident, the most horrific, is the one I recall the least re:details. Maybe it’s because they spent more time on Vince neil’s Daughter than exploring the after affects of the accident or any sign of contrition or conflict from Neil?

He should have done 20-30 years or more.

Also I just heard from an acquaintance who knows Hanoi rocks guys personally and she stated unequivocally they NEVER got over the accident and Neil’s aloof attitude towards it.

Red Army pretty much picks up where the 30 For 30 ends. It's almost like a sequel.

THE DIRT: I thought this movie was well done for the same reasons mentioned above. I did like the tounge-in-cheek style that was used with the 4th-wall breaks throughout. I felt it played off the over the top stardom they were talking about very well, specifically Tommy's "daily routine".

SHAZAM!: I felt this was a great popcorn flick for the Superhero genre. It was a very enjoyable two hours. This movie played with it's lighter tone and was surprisingly self aware in regards to the genre. It's themes were straight out of a "kids" movie at first glance, but deeper thought is there when I look back on it. I will admit that there was some cheesy things that I saw and immediately thought "Well this is gonna show up on CinemaSins!", but that's just my perspective and probably won't remove everyone from the scene. Whatever the future of DC is, they have two solid movies to build off of with this and Aquaman.

That's exactly how the book was. It wasn't some narrator telling the story. Each band member told the story from their POV. It was a brilliant move on their part.

Re: Bohemian Rap City: Movies Thread

Those guys sold bad boy then, are they doing it now?

Are they living that life, you mean? Or promoting it? I don't think so. IIRC, they had a stipulation in their last concert tour contract that would cost them dearly if they played another show after that, and I think they've settled down quite a bit. The stipulation was their idea, so they wouldn't end up like KISS or the Stones, doing endless "Last Tour Ever" stuff.

Looking back, how sad is it that Mick Mars was the sanest and most well-behaved of the bunch?

How man "Last Tours" has KISS been on? You could not have picked a worse example. I'll tell you. 2. That's right. Two. They called it a retirement tour when they (Gene and Paul) decided they could no longer work with or tour with Ace and Peter. The cash cow of getting back together had run its course and they were done with them. Then Gene and Paul decided, you know what?, we don't have to quit. We can just hire two other guys to take their place and keep going. Since then they have released two more albums of music and never toured on a "last ever" theme. Recently, they decided they were finally going to be done touring so they are currently on their end of the road tour. Which, from the initial announcement will last 3 years but will all be the same tour.

Rumors are that KISS will continue after this but it will be with (4) completely different guys. How that will work I have no idea but that's what has been talked about.

Re: Bohemian Rap City: Movies Thread

A 3 year-long last tour? That's kinda sad, actually, and in the same general theme of never quitting when it's time to quit. That was my point.

That was not your point.

It takes 3 years cause they are performing everywhere. New Zealand, Europe, Japan, everywhere.

Re: Bohemian Rap City: Movies Thread

Marty: The last time Tap toured America, they where, uh, booked into 10,000 seat arenas, and 15,000 seat venues, and it seems that now, on their current tour they're being booked into 1,200 seat arenas, 1,500 seat arenas, and uh I was just wondering, does this mean uh...the popularity of the group is waning?

Ian: Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no...no, no, not at all. I, I, I just think that the.. uh.. their appeal is becoming more selective.

Isnt Elton John on like a 2 year last tour? When you can tour every country that is how you roll.

And Motley Crue will do a Vegas residency and find some way to tour again. 100%. Anyone who says otherwise is lying to themselves.

KISS already did their Vegas residency. FTR.

Re: Bohemian Rap City: Movies Thread

I like KISS. Saw them on the Reunion Tour in Saint Paul and their "Farewell" Tour years later. Havent really needed to see them since ;)

I saw them 13 times. When they said they were retiring the first time I took them at their word. Have not seen them since.
