Big Ten Hockey Conference Pt III - Revenge of the Sith.

Re: Big Ten Hockey Conference Pt III - Revenge of the Sith.

Not only that, but look at all of Miami's travel in a league "out west:"

Colorado College - 1138 miles, 19.5 hours
Denver - 1167 miles, 19.5 hours
Nebraska Omaha - 696 miles, 12 hours
North Dakota - 987 miles, 18 hours (flight)
Minnesota-Duluth - 734 miles, 13 hours
St. Cloud State - 738 miles, 13 hours

Yikes...

Anything over 500 miles would be considered a flight if the NCAA had to pay for travel in the playoffs. Those are all hikes.

Re: Big Ten Hockey Conference Pt III - Revenge of the Sith.

Clearly Miami, who had to cut $18,000 from their hockey budget because of funding cuts to the athletic department is going to jump at the chance to fly out to Colorado twice a year. They'll add some more slaughterhouse games for the football program, and when the Big Ten coincidentally goes to a 9 game season for football and limits chances for MAC schools to get destroyed for paychecks 4 times close to home, they'll just drop the football program so you can fap over your "Anti-Big Ten hockey conference" that on a map looks like the CHA.

Dont bring in facts...let the irrational run around scared and we can just point and laugh at them :D

Re: Big Ten Hockey Conference Pt III - Revenge of the Sith.

At a certain point, the smaller WCHA and CCHA schools just need to focus on improving their own fortunes. It's terrible to think of what the BTHC could end up doing to them. I, for one, am skeptical that all of the BTHC schools would enter into a scheduling agreement with their old conference foes. I'm blinded by my irrational hatred of the way that Barry Alvarez sees the world of college hockey, but I highly doubt that UW will end up in any sort of agreement with the WCHA.

At the end of the day, these smaller schools have two more seasons to figure out how to stop being so dependent on the BTHC schools to survive. As cruel and elitist as that looks after I type it, it's just the truth. The days of using them as a safety net are over. Whatever these schools have to do to keep their programs alive, they'd better do it. Soon.

That said: now that the BTHC is a reality, let's start focusing on our next pipe dream conference. I'm pulling for Syracuse, Pitt and Rutgers to join up with Notre Dame, Providence and Connecticut for the BEHC.

Re: Big Ten Hockey Conference Pt III - Revenge of the Sith.

I think the addition of Penn State hockey is beyond fantastic, so don't get me wrong...but this Big 10 hockey thing is kinda making my brain itch some, and here's why:

Is anyone else bothered by the fact that all this...um...stuff is happening based on a "team" that has yet to play even a period of hockey? And, I'm putting quotes around the word team, because, well, they don't even have that yet.

I mean, I think everything will go just fine with Penn State's start up, and obviously so do they...but what if it doesn't? Or what if 2 or 3 or 4 seasons from now, some geniuses with bow ties and harry potter glasses sitting around a table in an admin building somewhere on the Penn State campus decide this was the wrong way to go, and drop the hockey program? Then what?

Pegula didn't donate that much money for there NOT to be a program. It's a given. Establishing the BTHC now is fundamentally no different than the NFL knowing that it was going to move to 8 divisions of 4 when the Texans joined the league.

I wouldn't think that St. Cloud or UMD will be involved, but I have no info on that. There's a chance that the proposed league has already had a meeting.

Supposedly the proposed league would have a scheduling agreement with Hockey East. That frees up the Minnesota & Michigan schools to play the BTHC.

How would Miami pay for all this travel? One would assume the playoff revenues would be significantly higher than the CCHA. Miami has more endowed hockey scholies than most other schools. They have a brand new arena. They gave Enrico a fat raise. They have the money if they need to make hockey more high profile.

Chambers thinks the six schools would be UNO, DU, CC, Miami, ND & UND.

Yes, and Ralph Engelstad said he'd only build an arena in Grand Forks if the University swore to keep the Sioux moniker, and then he had Sioux heads etched into the granite. But now they're warming up the jackhammers. Stuff happens.

It just seems like we're betting the farm on what may very likely be a miracle cure, but there's still a chance it's just snake oil.

Apples and oranges.

Call me when a bunch of oversensitive white people invoke the complete and utter destruction of the native population of Happy Valley in order to prevent the creation of a varsity hockey team at Penn State.

I don't know why, but this post reminds me of the mountain dew scene:

I guarantee if the WCHA splits like Chambers has posted the BTHC is free to do with scheduling whoever they want. The reason? The BT schools don't have to feel guilty for leaving the WCHA and CCHA. Bank on it.

Every sport that has at least 6 BT teams playing in it plays underneath the Big Ten umbrella.

Re: Big Ten Hockey Conference Pt III - Revenge of the Sith.

I hate you for even bring it up. You ******* know the Big Ten is going to have shootouts, it's all for TV.

i don't mind the shootouts but if you want it "all for TV" bring fighting back like the old days

Re: Big Ten Hockey Conference Pt III - Revenge of the Sith.

If there are shootouts in the BTHC, I'm going to ****ing riot.

I don't think you need to worry about it. Shoot-outs were all that sparty Anastos' doing. He is no longer the commishioner of the soon to be defunct CCHA. Get ready to laugh, he is now the Head Coach at Michigan State, LOL!

I kind of doubt if the BTHC has shoot-outs. It might, but I don't think that it will.

LMAO. You and Swami feeding Chambers does not = Chambers knowing anything more than you. And yes, I know ... I know. This has "nothing" to do with you. Mmmkay ... drugs are bad .. mmmkay.

Keep it up Uncle Eddie.

Some people are saying the BHHC is inevitable ...
It's being reported that the BHHC is inevitable ...
Reputable sources have it that the BHHC may have had meetings and is inevitable ...
Iraq has weapons of mass destruction ...

Classic stuff Mr. Damien "King of BHHC Marketing" Goddard ...

*punches hole in the wall*

At this point, it doesn't even matter whether it actually would happen or not. The concept alone makes me angry. Hulk angry.

I don't know how you CCHA folks have been able to put up with it.
