Biden v Dump 1: If not now, when? If not us, who?

More like if you drop $300 and pick $100 back up you're $100 richer.

That about sums it up.

To them all jobs below theirs are the same. If I lose my faculty position and salary but pick up an hourly job bagging groceries I am employed so everything is ok!

I love this response!

https://www.politico.com/amp/news/2020/08/13/voters-approve-kamala-harris-vp-pick-394734

The early reviews are in for Joe Biden’s choice of Kamala Harris as his running mate, and it’s a hit with most voters — including key groups the Biden campaign hopes will solidify its lead over President Donald Trump.

A slim majority of voters, 53 percent, approve of Biden picking the California senator to join the Democratic ticket, according to a POLITICO/Morning Consult flash poll conducted on Wednesday, the day after the selection was announced. That’s significantly greater than the 29 percent who disapprove of Harris as Democrats’ vice presidential candidate.

Moreover, the pick earns high marks from key constituencies: Democrats (84 percent) overwhelmingly approve of Harris’ selection, as do Black voters (79 percent). Majorities of voters under age 35 (56 percent), 35-44 (61 percent) and 65 and older (55 percent) approve of Biden’s choice; only among voters aged 45-64 does the pick not earn majority support.

A plurality of independents, 44 percent, approve of Biden’s choice, greater than the 27 percent who disapprove. But more than 1 in 4 independents, 28 percent, have no opinion.

An interesting conversation with a coworker has me wondering something about the polls.

We both work together dropping off mail containers at the post office (surprise, UPS and FedEx both fly a lot of mail for USPS) and, because the USPS is mess it takes longer nowadays. I mentioned it’s because of Trump and his response was “yeah and his dumb lackey in charge of the Post Office. I’ll tell you what, my wife and I are voting him out and we haven’t voted in 10+ years.”

Now, I’ve worked with this person long enough to believe he really hasn’t voted in 10 years. So I’m curious as to how many people are out there like him and if that’s showing in the polls?

There's an inert mass of eligible voters who have checked out. Even just activating a slice of them to ride Dump out on a rail would help.

Can I ask about this voter's demographics? My stereotypical guess would be > 50 white working class man; the kid of guy who plays in beer leagues and has soured on everything political. The guy Bernie was trying to reach.

White, working class, >50, but not a beer league guy (more of a “work on my Mustang” guy). He has definitely been a “they’re all the same” kind of guy who’s realizing how much Dump is f-ing things up and it’s pizzing him off, certainly enough that he’s motivated to vote.

My guess is the only group that would be true for would be Cubans. Could be wrong though...

In other news:

JUST IN: The U.S. Postal Service confirms to NPR that it's postponing the removal of mailboxes for the next 90 days. The action comes as the Chairwoman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform called on Postmaster General Louis DeJoy to testify at an “urgent hearing” on Aug. 24

That is nice but the damage has already been done.
